The duo that got torn apart
It was random. Unexpected. Cody hadn't given a head's up about it, he hadn't said anything. But at somepoint... he left. For some time she was convinced that she couldn't find him, but soon the truth was clear. Cody wasn't in Hogwarts. She had asked multiple Hufflepuffs if they knew were her cousin was, her first best friend at Hogwarts. She doesn't know what happened to them, what happened to her. She messed them up, she really did. She messed herself up. Thinking of Cody made her remember everything, every single thing. Who she was, who they were. The chaotic duo. A duo where she didn't hate him. They were messed up and were never fixed, now matter how much Cody tried to fix what Juniper had broken. But she hadn't tried as hard as he did, and now she couldn't. Their parents still didn't stay in touch, they didn't even live remotely close to each other.
Desperate to fix her mistake, she ran to the owlery with parchment and her quill. She expected to see Darksea here, eyeing her with his evil eyes. But there was no Darksea. She swallowed the dry guilt and diverted her gaze to the empty parchment. The unsaid words were judging her, drilling regret deep into her bones. She shook her head and pressed the rip of her quill to form the words
"Dear Cody"
The tip of the quill froze as she couldn't think of how to continue. A small ink splot formed under her quill and she lowered it to continue.
"Listen, I don't know what's going on. Are you okay?"
Are you okay.
In truth, she didn't have a single clue that her aunt and uncle had passes away. She didn't know how her cousin was suffering at this moment, a pain that she might recognize one day. omg foreshadowing?!?! But today was not that day. And so, she didn't know what she was to say.
"Have you been kidnapped? If the evil old lady who lives in a gingerbread house took you... send Darksea to peck my arms. I'll save you."
Right, so that was said. What if he wasn't kidnapped?
"Can you at least tell me where you've gone to? Can you tell why you've left with no warning? You scared me, you know."
Should she say sorry now? She wasn't good with taking blames nor apologising. Her version of saying sorry to someone was more or less like saying "un-screw you." Or "you're not a dumby or whatever" or "Yeah I guess you're right or something" But she couldn't really mumble awkward things on paper, could she? She stared at the parchment for 20 minutes.
"Look. Please just tell me what's in your head, please. I kind of... miss you. I guess. I've added some candy to the letter." She pulled out the parcel that wrapped said treats and tied it to the letter.
"With chaotic love, Juniper Kelly (jelly bean) " the old nickname made her pause for a moment as a smile tugged at her lips. She stood up and tied her things to an owl. "To Cody Stevenson, wherever he may be." She said, tucking her hands in her pockets as she watched the owl until it faded from view.
