Stepping Towards New Familiarities
Theo dashed beside his mother through King's Cross, barely dodging the tired and uncomfortable muggle travelers as they approached the train station that would soon send him to, in his mind, the most amazing and exciting place ever: Hogwarts. This would be the year that classes wouldn't bore him, that he could speak openly of the magical world with his peers rather than staying awkwardly silent when asked about his summer holiday. He would make friends and finally play properquidditch, not just backyard single person quidditch on the shoddy shed broom (his mother barely let him touch the traveling broom).
The cart rattled to a stop with his singular trunk and cauldron atop it, facing the very solid looking brick wall ahead.
"Well then, my dear"
His mother looked down at him. The height difference was astronomical, she stood at a quite lanky 6'3, but it somehow made her look elegant and her presence was quite loud to any passer-bys. Theo let go of her emerald cardigan pocket, staring at her with wide eyes.
"Is it time to go through ma?" he asked, a tinge of excitement evident in his tone.
"If we don't go through now, you'll have to wait through next year and you'll miss the opportunities to meet people on the train. We wouldn't want that, hm?"
Slight panic shot through him.
"Let's go, let's go then!"
And so they went, Theo squinted and shut his eyes as they flew through the wall and emerged on the other side unscathed, as he predicted of course.
After the pair moved out of the way, closer to the train, his mother knelt down next to him and held him close. Theodore squirmed a little but quickly gave in. He was going to miss her.
"We mustn't delay our goodbye, Theodore. Do try not to waste your pocket money all at once."
"Yes ma, can you write a letter to me?"
"Not just one letter my dear, always twice a week, I wish I could more but poor old Higsby won't be able to fly everyday"
Satisfied with the answer, he gave his mother a tight squeeze, signaling that he was ready to go, and pulled away.
"Tell me what house you get into, see you soon! I love you!"
And with that, he stepped aboard the train, new familiarities greeted him at every turn.
