Regardless of what other people may think, Sage was only here to spectate. She wasn't here to make eyes at some dark-eyed Tuscan stunner like that bevy of girls she shadowed during Beauxbatons’ arrival - Merlin, no.ᴏɴ ᴛʜᴇ ᴅᴀʏ ᴏғ ᴛʜᴇ ᴛʜʀᴇᴇ sʜɪᴘs’ ᴀʀʀɪᴠᴀʟ
19/03/22, 1800ʜʀs
Someone had to scope out the competition; and naturally, Sage had volunteered (whether the others wanted her to or not) her snooping services. Frankly, she knew little about the other schools and this would simply not do, so she did it for herself, really.
Perched upon a stump by the mossy bank, Sage squatted most unladylike-ly, her skirt bunching between the knees; a khaki, hooded parka was draped upon her person, keeping her reasonably dry. Her fingers clutched clumsily at a leather-bound equipment. Earlier, she had swiped someone's binoculars - better to see the enemy with, she had reasoned. Not even bothering to conceal herself, Sage peered through the lenses.
Durmstrang's ship stalked the horizon, heralded by Scottish wet weather, though not even the rain could dampen the spirits of those who awaited them by the lakeshore. Stark against the backdrop of springtime, their uniforms were a deep, sinewy red; efficient like gears in clockwork, they rowed diligently to the shore.
As they toiled, another ship rose to the surface, much larger, and fanciful, than Durmstrang's skeletal vessel. The resulting wave that billowed out soon after they'd emerged had caused some Durmstrang-ferrying boats to capsize, its occupants and their luggage plunging into the lake's murky depths.
Hoisting their colors - blue and cranberry red - upon the lake was Ilvermorny.
A school that had only seemed to gain popularity in recent years, Sage knew even less about them. It would seem their new-world cousins had a flair for the dramatic; they arrived with unnecessary fanfare and fireworks, as if the ostentatious display could drive back the glum weather.
Unsurprisingly, it only spurred students from both schools to hurl insults at each other. Truthfully, there was too much going on at the same time and it was hard to keep track of everyone all at once, the poor girl didn't know where to point her lenses to. It was pure chaos, the kind that would thrill anyone to the point of encouraging it. Hogwarts had better chances when the other schools were too busy squabbling with each other, yes?
This went on for some time.
Just when the last drenched student hauled themselves to shore and the waves had stilled to a calm, an oriental-styled ship emerged from the depths. Sure, it was smaller than the other two houses but did not lose out on presence. Sage watched the students disembark into their boats.
Covered with tarp, their rowboats sailed gracefully despite the rain. The students within were dignified, their unique robes varying from soft hues of pink or gold. They didn't strike Sage as savage competitors, being as lovely and baby-faced as most of them would seem to be. It would be an insult to underestimate them at all, though.
A huge sigh slipped from the girl’s mouth. She didn't really get much information from all that. So many questions, so little answers. Was she not looking hard enough? The tournament was just around the corner and her school needed to know what they were coming up against.
Sage was thinking about all sorts of trivial things, chewing at her lower lip. It was getting colder by the minute and dusk was fast approaching. She’d have to go back to the castle soon. The girl was observing the Mahoutokoro students through her borrowed binoculars, wondering where they’d be housed during their stay, when her line of sight grew very dark.

After the whole incident between Mathias, Winnie and Hiro had taken place, he'd reunited with some of his Mahoutokoro mates. Soon afterward, the small group had broken up and headed off to the Campgrounds to look over their living spaces. Or went to Hogwarts Castle to explore that place. Hiro had a decision to make. He could do one of two things. One, follow the other Mahoutokoro students to either the Campgrounds or the Castle. This was tempting.
Or stay on the shore for awhile longer and try to make more friends! This was even more tempting. At last, Hiro decided on the latter, because sometimes people could be rather shy when it came to talking to new people. Once the majority of people had gone, the shyer people might still remain for a short time. So, this was his chance! He glanced around the area, taking note of everyone still present. They all seemed to be in small groups chatting.
That was when he noticed someone.
A glint of light that bounced off her binoculars.
Hiro wondered if she was trying to look at the incoming students from a distance. A smile came to his lips as he headed off, circling around to come up behind the girl.
She still hadn't noticed him. So, Hiro leaned over her, and placed a hand in front of her binoculars, waving in front of them. "Hey! I'm Hiro, what's your name?" He asked.

A brilliant smile could be seen on his face and he gazed down at the girl squatting on her stump. He flashed twin finger-hearts at her and then pointed towards his cheeks and smiled again. "You should smile more! With a face like that, it's a waste if you don't smile!" Hiro said with a grin. He was a bit too close to her, if the girl overreacted and tried to stand up fast, she might accidentally hit his body or his face, which would probably hurt a bit.
But right now, Hiro wasn't really thinking about that.

Taken aback by the boy's appearance, Sage lost her balance and fell on her butt.
She lay tangled there in a mess of limbs, feeling grateful for the soft cushion of rain-drenched wildflowers beneath her. She didn't ache anywhere but she winced when she felt something cold seeping through her skirt. Blast it!
Setting the binoculars aside, Sage made a face at the newcomer. Standing before her was a dewy-eyed boy with squirrel cheeks and cotton candy pink hair. So far, she only knew one person with coloured hair but his disposition was far from sunny.
Her confusion coalesced into worry before turning into indignation. She hadn't expected anyone to see her, let alone creep up on her. In her mind, she was stealth personified. Well, apparently not!
Of course, she recognised his robes; Mahoutokoro, the students she'd been watching just moments before. How could he have slipped away without her knowing?
Even so, he was beaming at her now, pinching the air in front of his face with his fingers. Was… was that a Mahoutokoro greeting of some sort? She didn't know what it meant, nor how to respond in turn - Merlin, could it be that he was asking for hush money?! Too bad for him, her pockets were only lined with lint. But what sorta hoodlum would introduce himself!
Hero? His name sounded like it.
“I’m… not amused.” She tried to rearrange her face into something a little friendlier, but her smile came out looking like a grimace. Honestly, though, she could hardly smile at being caught red-handed. Besides, he was too close, almost as if he paid personal boundaries no mind.
“Um, mister Hero, mind stepping back a bit?”
Gathering herself up, crumpled skirt and all, she waved sheepishly.
“Shouldn’t you be with your friends?”

As the girl lost her balance and fell on her butt, Hiro's lips parted.
"Ah! You okay? Sorry, I didn't think you'd be that startled by me!" He exclaimed.
Hiro stretched out a hand towards her, hoping she hadn't hurt herself or something because of him. It would make him feel guilty because he didn't like seeing someone in pain.
The pink haired boy's attempt at making the girl smile was not something most Mahoutokoro students would be caught dead doing in public. But Hiro was a breed of his own. And then the girl finally spoke and gave her name. Or rather, that's what he thought at first, until his brain caught up with the girl's words. Wait, was she being serious or sarcastic? If it was the latter, he could appreciate a joke. But what if it was the former and it actually was her name?
If he laughed or apologized and it was her actual name... she might take offense. But since when did he care about that? If he'd cared about what people thought of him, he wouldn't be the Hiro he was now. He also might not have the facade he'd built up over the years and things might actually have been different for him. But whether or not that difference would be bad or good was unknown. Eh, Hiro would do what he always tended to do with people.
Take them at face value.
"That's a unique name. I mean, unless it's not your name?"
"If it is, it's a cool one! Do you go by Not?" Hiro asked the girl. He really was curious and wasn't trying to make fun of her. This was proven by him not smiling at all.
And then Not Amused asked him to step back a little and Hiro nodded. "Oh, sure." He took a step back and waited for her to get to her feet again. Once she had and gave him a wave, she asked if he should be with his friends and Hiro shook his head. "Nah, they already left me. I want to get to meet as many people as I can while I'm here. So that's why, when I saw the glint off your object, I thought I'd go meet whoever it was there."
Hiro said with a smile. "So, I'm assuming you go to Hogwarts?" He asked.

"Ah..." Sage couldn't be bothered to correct the boy. Hero had taken her words literally though he wasn't being mean about it. Wise move. She was already in a huffy mood and making nice with strangers was the last thing on her mind.
But Merlin, Hero was a chipper little thing, like he'd swallowed a bunch of peppermint toads for breakfast. The Mahoutokoro kids appeared to be a calm, genteel bunch so what's up with this oddball, then?
He saw that all the way from there? A bit surly, Sage knitted her brows. She thought she was far enough away to put those binoculars to good use. What were his eyes made of, to possess such extraordinary vision?
"Mm, and what if I am?" supplied the lanky girl, lifting a brow as she eyed him askance. Merlin's bollocks, he must be growing suspicious of her intentions. After all, what excuse could an unmannered girl across the lake possibly have?
"I'm here on an errand," Sage fibbed lightly, plucking a stray leaf from her dark bob. Thankfully, the rain had let up to a light drizzle. She hoped her skirt would dry on the way back. No need to go back looking like a sorry li'l pup, yeah.
Like the boy had said, he was the last of his group to trickle back into the Castle grounds. The shore was cleared out except for the adults - probably sorting out some last-minute logistics. There was no need to stay out here any longer.
"Come, let's walk you back."

Hiro probably could have become a seeker.
He definitely had the eyesight and probably would have excelled at trying to find the snitch.
But the pink haired boy was more interested in using a bat and connecting with an object above ground on his broom. The feeling of making solid contact with the bludger and sending it careening into someone else was awesome. Hiro already had several nicknames he'd picked up from Quidditch. When he had pink or purple hair, it was usually Pygmy Puff. But his most popular name was usually Tone and was what most of his fans tended to call him.
Calico was the other one that was sometimes referred to him.
He kind of liked it because it was a mix of having duo-colored hair and also reminded him of the cat breed and he loved cats.
Those who followed foreign Quidditch would at least know him by Tone. Since the girl hadn't corrected him about her name, Hiro assumed that it really was her name. It was a good thing he hadn't laughed at her 'joke' because it hadn't been one. As Not spoke again, Hiro smiled brightly at her. "That's awesome then! I want to meet as many students from Hogwarts as I can while I'm here. You're the second one!"
He told her with a grin.
"What do you think of Hogwarts?" Hiro asked, curious as to how she'd respond to it.
What did Hogwarts students think of the school they went to? Did they like going there? Or did they want to go to a different school? He hadn't asked anyone that question yet.

Sage led the way back along the beaten path towards the castle, her boots crunching against wet grass and gravel.
The girl kicked a pebble, watching it skitter to the side, wondering whom the boy had met before her. She wasn’t sure why there was a need to tell her this, honestly. She wasn’t keen on being included on that stranger’s get-to-know list.
The girl cast a suspicious look at his toothy grin. It had only occurred to Sage that the boy could definitely have had an ulterior motive for being so… amiable. Hit them where it hurts the most and all that.
Of course, Sage had many things to say about Hogwarts: the good, the bad and the utterly bizarre. The urge to brag about her school was nigh impossible to resist. It was a shame that she hadn't read up on Mahoutokoro prior to today's reconnaissance. Perhaps if she had, she would know where they lacked. Like, what did Hogwarts have that Mahoutokoro didn’t, anyway? A wizarding school could only vary so much.
She opened her mouth to speak but held her tongue, pausing briefly in thought.
Why did it matter to him what she thought of her own school? Sage was sure this was him trying to weasel information out of her. Perhaps, if she blabbed on enough, he’d string enough pieces together to make out a weakness or a fatal flaw that could lead to their ultimate defeat.
Hah, as if she’d let that happen!
"It's…" her voice dropped beneath a whisper, despite only having shrubs and trees for an audience. "It's cursed."
She squinted at the castle, eyeballing the turrets stark against the cloudy sky, as if something menacing lurked upon the sloping shingles.
"Bit of a tragic history it's got," said the brunette darkly. Supposedly the safest place for fledgling wizards, with all the wards placed around it and yet, a shred of evil could still wiggle its way through.
"You've heard how the last Wizarding Tournament went, haven't you, mister Hero?"
Sage left the boy to ruminate on her words, cricket song fading as they stepped onto the Campgrounds.

ㅤ──────────────────────| ── | The girl was a rather quiet one. Hiro wondered if she was like that with everyone or just with him. Or maybe a lot of Hogwarts students were quiet? Whatever! Hiro could talk enough for the both of them, it was something he tended to excel at! He watched as Not opened her mouth to speak but then paused, almost as if she was considering what to say to him. Wait, was she suspicious of his motives? "Don't worry, I'm not trying to gain information about Hogwarts students for the upcoming tournament. I'm just curious about how foreign students feel about their school, what they like or don't like etc..." Hiro tried to reassure her. "For me, Hogwarts is very different from ours." Hiro wanted to know more about Hogwarts because it was very interesting to find out about a different school and compare it to their own. He was sure that if the tables were turned, students would be all over themselves to see what students of the school they were visiting thought about their school too. And it wouldn't be so they could find weaknesses to exploit, it would be because of their curiosity. Of course there would probably be some students who might have ulterior motives. But most probably wouldn't, right? Hiro continued to walk towards their destination. With Not by his side. The girl's next words made Hiro blink and a shiver ran down his spine at the thought of Hogwarts being cursed. Wait. Cursed usually meant darkness was involved somewhere. The concept of darkness and evil didn't scare him but actual darkness and jump-scares did tend to startle him. "O-oh. Really?" Hiro murmured and glanced around, feeling a little nervous. "You mean the last Triwizard Tournament? Before they decided to cancel it from that point on until now?" He asked, wanting to make sure he understood. "What about it?" Hiro wasn't sure what Not was getting at. As they stepped onto the campgrounds, he waited for Not to continue speaking to him.
