Meeting new Friends
The Sorting ceremony had ended and all the new students have taken their seats at their different tables. Mia was unsure of how she should start up a conversation, she was used to her family, but she was never placed in a situation where she met strangers. She stared at the table filled with food. Mia's eye fell on the professors at the front of the Great Hall. She felt excited to be part of such a prestigious school. She wondered what classes would be like with each of the professors and whether they were excited to have new students. A soft smile curved onto her lips as she felt nervous. She wanted to do her best when it came to her work, and she didn't want to disappoint her parents.
The professors were deep in conversation, Mia continued to admire their different styles of clothing, they sure were an oddly fashionable bunch. One more colourful than the other. She titled her head to the side, her parents told her to expect new faces, not the professors that they had back when they were in school. She sighed as she pondered the different classes that she will have in her first year. Her mother had given her a few reading materials about different subjects that she might come across, but it felt like she was completely unprepared for what was waiting for her. For now, she only had to get through today without choking on a chicken bone. A soft chuckle escaped her lips, barely audible to those around her.

A smile formed on her lips as she focused back on the food in front of her. She might have to eat something before they get taken to their dorm room.

Meeting new Friends
Neptune sat down at the table after they had been sorted into the house of bravery, Gryffindor. They ended up sitting next to a girl with long blonde hair, dark eyes, and quite fairly pale. If you looked quite closely, the girl even seemed a tad underweight. The girl was seemingly quite shy, only looking down at the table filled with food and other items. Neptune fiddled with their rings, hand specifically moving to the Clear Quartz ring, before their hands went up to fiddle with a Green Aventurine crystal necklace, then finally, and Opalite crystal necklace. They finally decided to grab a small portion of food to put on their plate, knowing that they won't eat much, all while struggling with their eternal debate.
'Should I talk to her?" Neptune mentally debated, streaks of hair turning yellow and green due to the worried, stressed, and scared emotions filling them. 'But what if she doesn't like me? Or she thinks I'm annoying? Or she won't accept me?'
Neptune's anxiety was getting to them, proven by their hair betraying their emotions. Neptune took their hands away from their plate, wiping their sweaty hands on their pants, before looking down at their black, drawn on, converse, feet moving the pink, yellow, and blue beads on their right foot while the other pushed the yellow, white, purple and black beads on the left. Neptune looked up again, taking a deep breath and making up their mind.
Tucking a piece of the short brown hair with yellow and green streaks behind their ear, Neptune looked over to the girl and said, "Um, hi there. I'm Neptune, Neptune Emory."

Meeting new Friends
Mia fiddles with a tiny fork, she shook her head as she placed the fork down from where she took it. She noticed a girl in black robes, like hers, sit next to her. She had just been sorted into the same house as her. She tilts her head to the side as she appreciates her freckles, she always admired those tiny little spots that adorned certain beings' faces. She wondered for a moment what she would look like if she had freckles. She shook her head stiffly as she imagined herself with freckles on her pale skin. Her eyes fell on a small streak of hair with which the girl next to her was playing. It had changed colour since she was sorted.
" Metamorphmagus? " She wondered to herself as she watched her tuck the strand of hair behind her ear
' Oh, Hi. I'm Mia Heartlilly.'
She extended her hand towards Neptune, she bit her lip and dropped her hand, unsure if it was appropriate to shake a student's hand. She cursed her mother for not preparing her more for the roles that she would have to play in school.
"Mia, remember to listen to the professors when they lead the class in their lessons. Mia, remember to not leave the castle without permission. Mia, remember that the Heartlilly's have gone to Hogwarts since the 1910's "
She shook her mothers' voice out of her head. She did not prepare her for any social interactions. Her father wasn't any help either. She looked back at Neptune, a complex expression graced her face. Mia wondered what she was thinking. Her eyes widened, was she suppose to say something more, was she looking at her because she was being rude for not continuing with the conversation. She grabbed onto the hem of her robe hem
'So, are you happy that you got placed in Gryffindor?' Mia asked quickly trying to fill the silence that she was sure she created.

Neptune's hair continued to turn more shades of green and yellow by the second, wiping their hands on their hands on their pants again, they waited for a reply from the girl, which came about a minute after Neptune had spoke. The, girl, introducing herself as Mia Heartlilly, extended her had before dropping it again, an internal debate seemingly going on inside the girl's head. Neptune fiddled more with their rings and necklaces, before speaking up in the silence,
"I like your name," they said in a quiet voice, almost too nervous to talk in a normal speaking tone, "It's really pretty."
Neptune quickly looked back down and their hands, wondering if the complement was okay. Their mother always told them that if you complement someone upon first meeting them, it would boost the chances of being better friends due to the kindness. But Neptune wouldn't know that, after all, the only time they had ever used that advice was when they met one of their only friends, and he lived in Florida now.
Neptune looked back up, hearing Mia speak up again, asking if they were happy about being placed in Gryffindor. "Um... I guess," they said, "My older brother is also in Gryffindor, and my parents don't really care what house I get put into. What about you?" They asked, firing the same question back at Mia, unconsciously, spinning the spinny anxiety ring on their thumb.

A soft scarlet blush appears on Mia's cheeks as she receives the compliment about her name. She tilts her head to the side and smiles as she watches Neptunes' hair become more violently colourful, she wondered whether she was doing it on purpose.
'Neptune is such a pretty name, I admire the stars and planets often. Did your parents give you that name with regards to the stars? ' Mia asked, a bit softer. She turned her body to face Neptune. She was being very kind to her, she felt her anxiety melt away as she looked over at the young girl in front of her. She smiles at the response, knowing fully that's exactly what her response would be if anyone had to ask her about it.
'Oh, it wouldn't have bothered if I were placed in any of the other houses too, my family isn't a one-house kind of family. I have uncles and aunts who have been in various houses. My parents would be proud either way. '
She stared down at Neptunes rings, an inquisitive expression forming on her brow.
'Your choice of jewelry is very interesting, I like them.' Mia mentions with a slight smile. She pushed back a long strand of hair as she pushed her untouched plate away from her.
'I'm sure the food is lovely, but I feel like today has been such a rush, don't you think?'

Neptune watched as a small blush appeared across Mia's face. So they had done well? Making her feel like the two could be better friends? Neptune shook the thoughts from their head, hearing Mia comment about their name.
"'Neptune is such a pretty name, I admire the stars and planets often. Did your parents give you that name with regards to the stars?" Mia asked.
"Um, well actually, Neptune is my chosen name. I chose it because of the same reason. I like astronomy, and Neptune is actually my favorite planet." They said, small streaks of hair turning pink due to the fact that their parents didn't actually name them Neptune.
Neptune had also asked Mia if she was happy being placed in Gryffindor. Their fellow housemate said exactly almost the same thing, telling them that her family wasn't just a one-house family and that many of her family members had been placed in other houses.
Neptune looked back down to their hands before eating a little bit more food. Mia commented once again, looking at the rings that they were wearing, "Your choice of jewelry is very interesting, I like them."
Neptune looked at all of the rings they had on. Some crystals and others just were simple image, like the moon, "Oh thank you." They said, appreciating the compliment on their rings and other jewelry.
Neptune took one more bite of food before pushing the plate with a little bit of leftover food away from them.
"'I'm sure the food is lovely, but I feel like today has been such a rush, don't you think?" Mia said once again, also pushing her plate away from her.
"I agree." They said, "I only ate a little bit of food because I know that we won't get any more until tomorrow morning. I don't want to be starving throughout the entire night."

She looked over at Neptune with surprise. She had chosen her own name, that was an interesting subject. She wondered for a moment what she would have named herself if she had the choice.
'May I ask why you named yourself?' Mia asked as she continued with the thought in her mind. She smiled as she noticed her fiddling with her rings. It was something she hadn't adorned herself, she thought it would be nice to have such jewels, but she didn't have the knowledge to choose the correct ones. She had read a book on different types of stones, and that most stones have different meanings to them, but it depended on the person and there were different cultures that placed different meanings on them. She smiled.
Neptune was right, they would only be eating at breakfast again, but she didn't feel hungry. It would be smart to eat something anyway, to ensure that she does not wake up wanting to eat something. She grinned as she pulled her plate back towards her. 'It wouldn't be funny if I woke with a hunger that I couldn't possibly fix.' She laughed a little at the idea of walking around the common room looking for something to devour.
She looked over at Neptune again. 'Have you decided in which room you will be? I saw that we needed to choose.' She asked thoughtfully as she chewed on a fork full of mashed potatoes.

Neptune is head shot up at the question on why they chose their name. Should they just say the reason? Should they slowly give the information?
Neptune decided to just fire the information at Mia, hoping that she had prior knowledge.
"Well, you see, I'm Non-binary, which means I don't identify with a certain gender. So I go by they/them pronouns and I changed my name to Neptune because it felt more like me." Neptune said in one breath. "I hope that makes sense."
Neptune smiled nervously at Mia before turning their attention back towards their rings, once more, fiddling with them to try and rid themselves of anxiety.
Neptune was thankful for the topic change as Mia pulled their plate back towards herself saying, 'It wouldn't be funny if I woke with a hunger that I couldn't possibly fix.'
Neptune laughed a little, "Yeah, that wouldn't be good."
Mia swallowed her current bite before asking another question about dorms.
"Um, I actually don't really know, considering with how I identify." Neptune said, "I don't know if the school will allow me to go with a new dorm just for us non-binary people, or if they will just shove us in with everyone else.

Mia smiled as she listened to Neptune explain the reason behind their name of choice, it was a good reason to choose a new name, if she felt like their given name did not suit them then they should change their name to that which they felt more comfortable with. It was only fair since they were their own person. Mia admired them for making that choice.
She took a bite from her toast as she contemplated what Neptune had said.
'I am certain that they have made postings about having such dorm rooms ready.' She said after she had swallowed her bite. She was sure when she chose her dorm room that they had said that there would be space for all types of students. She wondered for a brief moment if there had been any other types of wizards in their school, not just humanoid. She chuckled at the idea.
'I have posted in which one I want to be, but at this stage, my room will only be a place to sleep. I will probably spend most of my time in the common room. She grinned as she faced Neptune.
