Let's pretend we don't know each other
IC Date March 18th 2022, Blue in English, Red in KoreanEun-ji wasn’t in good mood today. She had received a letter from her grandmother and as usual, she didn’t find anything good in it. That woman was a master when it came to getting on her nerves and she didn’t even need to be physically present to do so. At least the weather is nice. The witch noted while looking out the window. She originally planned to do some ballet practice but the bright sun outside, changed her mind. I didn’t sketch for some time and the fresh air might do me good. She nodded to herself. Drawing had a very calming effect on her and god knows, she needed that today.
And so, grabbing her sketchbook and art supplies, Eun-ji got dressed and ventured outside. She was wearing a white dress that was way too fancy for a simple sketching session but the truth was, she didn’t own any casual clothes anymore. Not by choice of course, it was a reality presented to her by Mrs. Hunt. The woman probably wanted her to look like a pure blood witch and the Ravenclaw hated to admit it but it seemed to work a lot of the time. Even Cassandra who was a pure blood witch assumed she was one.
Sighing, the raven haired girl sat down on an empty bench, placing her new sketchbook in her lap while searching the bag for various pencils. Her previous sketchbook was ruined by her aunt and so she had to buy a new one this summer. She still mourned the loss of her art but at least she got to visit her favourite shop. It was clear all journals and sketchbooks were handmade with love and each and every one was unique. Sometimes she would stop by just to look at them even when she didn’t need one. Everything there was so pretty and it smelled good too. Perhaps she could stop by next summer. Maybe take Charles as well? Yeah…that sounded good.

Having a few hours in between Defense Of The Dark Arts and Astronomy class was a blessing for the young badger. It gave Oliver a chance to rejuvenate after hours of cramming information. It also gave him a chance to take full advantage of the blossoming spring. The fresh air always did wonders after spending so long in an old classroom. After seeing how beautiful the weather looked through the window in his last class the choice of how he would spend the next hour was easy.
The plan was to head back to the common room dorms, drop off his books, grab one of his mangas, and go find a tree with the most shade to read under. An ideal way to spend the afternoon. With his books gathered in one hand Oliver set off for the Hufflepuff common room. As he made his way down the corridor two students ran from around the corner with their noses covered. They didn’t say anything as they passed, but it was clear they wanted to get far away from whatever it was.
A couple steps forwards and Oliver discovered why; someone let off a stink bomb, or what smelled like a couple of them actually. All it took was one inhale to make his stomach almost do a double backflip. The first year let out a gage, but managed to keep his breakfast in his stomach. Oliver quickly brought his robe up to cover his nose as he took off in the other direction.
Luckily Hogwarts was huge, and had numerous other routes. On the bright side this way would now take him through the courtyard so he could get much needed fresh air after that experience. “Ahhh” He breathed freely as the corridors opened up to a much brighter and open area in the castle. The sun felt warm as the rays danced on his visible skin. To his surprise the area was rather empty. Oliver thought for sure more students would be hanging out, but he was wrong. Not that he was complaining.
Scanning the area he spotted an overly dressed student sitting on a bench with various art supplies and a sketchbook. A sight which triggered memories of spending summers in Aunts Art store over the summers. I wonder what she’s drawing. He thought to himself as he strolled through the courtyard. He was planning on just minding his business and keep it moving, but his curiosity ate at him.
His hearts raced with each step closer he took. He was normally shy, but he would feel guilty if he at least didn’t give her a heads up about the stink bombs that got let off in the castle. You can do this He mentally motivated himself as he was now standing in front of her. “Um, H-h-hi” he stuttered. Great start genius He thought to himself. “D-down that way…wait a minute” He started but froze half way through his sentence. Looking down at the girls sketch book Oliver couldn’t believe it. “That’s from my Aunts shop in Chester!” He pointed down at the book in her lap as his whole demeanor changed.

Let's pretend we don't know each other
Blue in English, Red in KoreanThe witch just managed to find her black marker and a pencil, when she heard footsteps approaching. She didn’t pay it much attention however, after all it was a lovely day and it would be strange if she was the only student outside. It was fine...They could just mutually ignore each other. Eun-ji had a raven sketch to finish and she was not in a mood for small talk. Unfortunately, it seemed like the newcomer didn’t share her sentiment. She wasn’t able to even fully open her sketchbook when the boy started talking to her.
The Ravenclaw sighed as she closed the notepad, sitting in her lap. It sounded like her new companion wasn’t very well versed in social interactions. She used to have the same problem in the previous two years of school but if there was something positive the Hunts managed to teach her, it was how to steel herself and at least look confident when talking. Tha question was, why was the boy talking to her in the first place? She would assume someone like him would prefer to keep to himself. It wasn’t until he pointed at her sketchbook that Eun-ji finally turned to look at him. Great, now he sounded excited. Well, the girl was anything but excited.
This was not good news to her at all. Looking at the boy now, he seemed somewhat familiar. She thought she might have even spotted him on the platform as she was boarding the Hogwarts express this summer. Her mind was too occupied with different things at the time so she didn’t pay much attention to it but she obviously should have. Aunt's shop...Is he from Chester then? It would made sense. If she wasn’t wrong, he was a first year so she couldn’t have seen him at school prior to this year and other than school, she only ever stayed in Chester. Sure, she used to visit her relatives in Korea but she would hardly remember somebody that she met there once upon a time.
Frowning, Eun-ji surveyed the boy rather unhappily. “You live in Chester?” She finally asked, mostly to confirm her theory. Had this happened in her first year, she would share his excitement but as things were right now she REALLY didn’t want anyone from Hogwarts around her home. Very few people knew about her current predicament and even those got a very watered down version. Letting something slip when she was with a friend was not ideal but it was something she could always fix with a small lie. Having someone in Chester who could potentially witness her family situation first hand was a whole other thing. Just the idea of it sounded terrifying to her. It may have not shown on her face but Eun-ji was definitely panicking.

Oliver was shocked to say the least. This was the last place he expected to find someone owning something from his Aunt’s shop. He was also thrilled at the possibility of having another student live so close. It was a plus that she appeared to be an older student as well. She could take him under her wing, or at least that's how Oliver pictured it going.
The young badger was caught up in his own excitement that he didn’t take notice of the girl looking displeased with this information. He also failed to hear the displeasure in the tone of her voice.“Yeah,” He started with a delighted tone. “Not very long though.. only for the last two years.” He started to explain his situation, but stopped before he got ahead of himself. “Oh, right, um I’m Oliver.” He flashed a cheeky smile her way remembering his manners.
As he settled into the conversation his afternoon plans faded into an afterthought. “You also live in Chester, yeah?” The question was kind of redundant, but it was only polite to ask instead of assuming. Well this is going well, he thought. From a stuttering fool to a babbling one, and all it took was finding something they shared in common. It was like magic how the visible nervousness just flushed away.
Although filled with questions Oliver held back his barrage. After all, he too was out of his comfort zone. This was supposed to be a simple warning of a prank instead Oliver found himself breaking his own shyness at a record pace.

Blue in English, Red in KoreanGreat…just great. Eun-ji thought bitterly once the boy confirmed her fears. He didn’t seem to notice that she was giving him a cold shoulder either. Was this a male version of Samantha? What was with all those younger students eagerly approaching her, completely oblivious to her ‘leave me alone’ aura. Was she being too subtle? The witch didn’t think so. Even this kind of behaviour was going against her previous polite nature. No…this one might be even worse. She decided as she listened to the boy ramble on. At least Sam had witnessed her kind actions last year so she could somewhat understand why she was so persistent but this one didn’t know her at all. People often told her that her calm and collected demeanour made her look dependable. Was this the reason why the freshmen wanted to stick around so much? Eun-ji sure hoped not. She could stop being nice to everybody but that calm aspect of her personality probably wouldn’t change anytime soon. That was simply who she was.
The Ravenclaw sighed again although she wasn’t sure if the action evem got through the boy’s newfound excitement. She’d remember his name but she would not give him hers. That was an information she was not willing to disclose. Sure, he could probably ask someone and find out himself eventually but Eun-ji was not going to make it easy for him. For a moment, she even considered lying and saying she got the sketchbooks while on a trip to Chester but in the end, she decided against the idea. The hope of living in the same town and never bumping into each other seemed too far-fetched.
“Look,” the witch finally spoke once Oliver paused long enough to give her a chance. “I do live in Chester and I appreciate your aunt’s handcraft but can we perhaps pretend we don’t know each other?” Her tone was not mean per se but it definitely wasn’t friendly either. The girl mostly felt exhausted to be honest. “I have plenty to deal with right now and I’m not looking for new friends. When you see me in town just ignore me, all right? Especially if I’m with someone else.” She was NOT about to introduce him to her newfound family members. The most Eun-ji could hope for, would be him never seeing them together. It was never a pleasant outing whenever her grandparents or aunt went to the city with her. It didn’t happen very often but it was not an impossible scenario either. The last thing she needed was someone witnessing her misery firsthand.

The confidence Oliver built up within the conversation was shattered in the bat of an eye. His excitement slowly turned to disappointment the more she spoke. For a second he regretted giving her a chance to squeeze in a sentence. I should’ve just kept walking He thought as the regret turned to the whole interaction. As an eleven year old this was one of the first times he actually felt rejection. An emotion he didn’t particularly like.
Oliver also didn’t particularly like the females tone, and how she started off like an adult lecturing him. Look, He mockingly thought as he pictured an adult waving a finger at him with a stern look. A childish thought, but one that made him accidentally chuckle out loud as she finished talking.
Opps
The young badgers face was immediately flushed with color. That was unintentionally rude of him, but he wasn’t quite sure if he should apologize. That was until he pictured a glare from his mother which quietly made him gulp in fear. She wasn’t the type of parent who entertained any rude comments, or back talk.
“Sorry,” Oliver started as he fiddled with his thumbs. It was obvious the conversation turned rather awkwardly for him, but a part of him felt kind of…sad for the girl in front of him. Dealing with a lot wasn’t something Oliver was used to. His life so far had been pretty smooth sailing, and although he was far from sheltered his parents kept him away from anything he would have to worry about. They didn’t even stress him over perfect marks, as long as he was passing they were happy.
“Maybe a friend is exactly what you need.” He finally finished showing his true innocence. Friendship was a power that all the anime characters he watched relied on. So naturally he thought it would apply here as well.
“Er anyway… someone let off some stink bugs down that corridor” He pointed in the direction in which he came.

Let's pretend we don't know each other
Blue in English, Red in KoreanEun-ji raised her eyebrows when she heard Oliver chuckle. Did I miss something? She didn’t even properly finish talking so what exactly did he find so funny? It was rather rude if she was being honest but it was also not her place to reprimand the boy and to be fair, he did look pretty embarrassed. “Sorry.” Ah…much better. Eun-ji nodded not really commenting on his behaviour. She wasn’t someone to get offended easily and she didn’t plan on having any deeper connection with him anyway. Somebody else could tell him off, she didn't feel the need to. At least not for now.
“Maybe a friend is exactly what you need.” Oh no… another freshman that couldn’t take a hint. Although, Oliver probably did but simply elected to ignore it. He was young and innocent and the Ravenclaw couldn’t fault him for that. She used to be the same when she was his age. Back then, everything seemed much easier and the only thing she had to worry about were her grades. Eun-ji sincerely hoped he would be able to stay this way and not have his life turned upside down like she did. “I have all the friends I need.” She finally replied, making sure to sound firm without being mean. The witch was sure Oliver would be a very good friend to someone but as it was now, to her he was a major inconvenience. Harsh but undoubtedly true. She was doing so well at keeping her family issues secret at Hogwarts and this boy here could very easily ruin it for her. Perhaps not now…but eventually.
“I see. Thank you for the warning then. I’m not planning to go back anytime soon so it should be fine.” She did not smile but her words were sincere. While she didn’t want to be friends with the Hufflepuff, there was no reason to be impolite. The warning was appreciated. Eun-ji hated those kind of pranks. What a way to ruin everybody's day. Where was the fun in that?
