Gemima chomped contentedly on a piping hot biscuit. It was breakfast time in the Great Hall, and it was shaping up to be a delightful day so far. Students from all different houses milled about the room, as they started their own days. Gem sighed and reached for the honey and butter, then slapped a generous amount of both onto a fresh biscuit. And as usual, she had a book laid out in front of her. It was one from home this time--a muggle tale, The Princess Bride. She was really enjoying it so far, and with the perfect atmosphere of the hall, and the sun shining from the windows, her mood was impeccable.
She took a drink from her glass of milk and idly flipped through the pages. She had just gotten to the part where the gang was climbing up the Cliffs of Insanity. She wondered if the Cliffs were a real place. If they were, I bet I could climb them with no problems at all. I'm pretty nimble. She smiled at the thought. It would be amazing to have an adventure of her own. Of course, she wouldn't be caught dead being the damsel in distress. It seemed awfully boring to be kidnapped and put in towers all the time. But even then, her chances of having some grand voyage were probably pretty slim. She sighed. A girl could dream.
All these thought and more were pleasantly swirling in her head. Around her, students bustled and talked as everyone partook in the beautiful morning. Nothing could go wrong...⍣─────── ⚝⚝⚝ ───────⍣
"Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"

The Marmalade Mishap
[quote]
The Great Hall was especially busy that morning. Everly was rudely jostled and pushed as she made her way to gather her desired breakfast, strawberry marmalade and toast. She wasn't exactly sure why—perhaps the sky (hardy har har) was a pretty color today? Either way, it was extremely hard to navigate through the horde of people, and she got to experience that right up and close when she was elbowed in the side.
When she did eventually locate her breakfast, though—perfectly gold, crisp toast and strawberry marmalade spread over—it was now time to begin her second obstacle: making her way to her seat. She'd already located somewhere she wanted to sit, but there were way too many people in the way.
With a deep sigh, she'd disappear into the crowd, zeroed on the seat she was attempting to get to. Without realizing it, someone would accidentally bump into her, and send her sprawling.
Perhaps 'sprawling' was an over-exaggeration, but the unknown offender would push Everly off balance, tipping the plate and sending the toast sprawling. Everly would manage to catch herself before she fell into the unassuming Ravenclaw with her nose in a book, but the book would not be so lucky. The toast would land, marmalade side down, right on top of the book's clean pages.
"Agh, I'm so sorry!" Everly would take a moment to scour the girl for any possible bumps, bruises, or injuries she might've caused her, and after deeming the girl perfectly fine, Everly would scour her mind for any memory of her. She looked younger than her, probably a first year, meaning Everly would've remembered her from her sorting and possibly elsewhere. It was a shame she didn't. "Are you alright? I didn't mean to bump into you, it's wild out here." She would let out a sheepish laugh, running her hand through her hair. Everly still hadn't noticed the book, either.
She looked down at the empty plate she was holding, crumbs still intact. "Uh—where'd my toast go?"
