Flying Sparks
March 16th, 11am
Charms. Ileen’s favorite class. Normally, she was one of the most focused and energetic students in the whole room, but today her head and heart were not really into it. Her cheeks were flushed the whole time and her hands were trembling.
Although she had taught the spell herself already last year, she still was screwing up the exercises today. And the reason for that was the blonde boy next to her. Percival Rainwood. The Percival she had dragged out of the fight club, the Percival she had fallen down the stairs with and survived the dungeons. The Percival who had tried to punch Victor in the face after the older boy had kissed her…
She couldn’t deny that something has changed for her and that she now saw him differently. Victor had said some painfully true things during the last ball. Yes, Percival had started off as a project for her. Yes, he would probably never get out of his way for her. But they had gone through a lot together already and she felt attached to him. She definitely liked him more than a friend by now. His presence made her heart beat fast and her hands a little sweaty.
And instead of denying this realization and development any longer, she had decided to actually do something about it. It was ridiculous how nervous she was, given that he had accompanied her to the last two balls. But who knew? They always only had gone there as friends. And now before Christmas when they had met in Hogsmeade, something had changed.
She stroked a strand from her eyes that had escaped her ponytail and bit her lower lip. She knew people were around them and everyone who cared would hear her. Shouldn’t she rather wait for later? No. No, no, no. She would probably not be able to summon the courage to ask him later in private.
The young girl took advantage of the dynamic in the classroom with everyone practicing the spell and turned to her friend.
A warm smile spread on her face and her heart felt like it would jump right out of her throat. Get it together, Knight.
This time she wasn’t as bold as last time. She had just approached him and asked him to go to the ball with her. But it hadn’t been about him… as a date…
Why was that so damn difficult?! She reached out and tapped him on the shoulder, after she had already stood there for a few seconds, awkwardly smiling at him. “Hey. How’s it going? Need assistance?” Of course, her brain started procrastinating on the actual question. But she knew Percival was probably not the finest with the wand and she was, so that could work as a good ice breaker, right?
Clearing her throat again, her smile slipped from her face, making space for embarrassing insecurity and excitement. “Uhm, by the way. Do you already have a date for the ball?” Very elegant. Very discreet. Come on, shape up, Knight.
