She Knows
@Alec MasonEavesdropping wasn't something that Adlai enjoyed doing, just something she happened to do frequently. Despite what some people may think Adlai is a very good listener. Sure, she has quite the motor mouth herself but when she's found with no one or nothing to talk about she is extremely silent. So silent some people don't even know she's there until she starts to talk again or insert's herself into a conversation.
This was the case now. It was meal time, the best time of day in her opinion, while she was sitting at the Hufflepuff table. Now most hufflepuff's to Adlai's knowing are not horrible gossip's who dig up or spread rumors but when an alleged fight breaks out, well they can be a bit assuming. Alec Mason this, Alec Mason that. He was the star of the afternoon.
Adlai had heard his name thrown around every now and then but she wouldn't open her mouth to talk about it to, to just anyone. After all, she didn't want her name to end up in the mud either she wanted to make sure the person she shared rumors or sayings with, with not just anyone. They had to be someone she knew very closely and had great trust with, no matter how selfish that sounded to the common person.

She Knows
The halls of Hogwarts were lively as usual. With children whispering to one another and chatting away. Some lived for the thrill of the daily gossip. 'Really? They did that? How could they?! You know I always thought that insertname and insertsecondname we're going to be an item but-' Alec didn't like the gossip, but the reactions to gossip would never get old. It called to the dramatics and as the name implied they took it dramatically. Gasps, whispers, pretending to faint. Alec never understood it. But it was interesting... Like watching foreign creatures. Alec had never been fond of gossip(the idea of it was interesting but nothing good happened in practice). It was rare that such a thing ever got the facts right. Moreover, what was surprising was how late gossip bubbled to the surface. An event could have happened months ago and yet one whisper was all it took to get talk going. Alec had never kept up with rumors. It wasn't factual, and it wasn't useful to him gain information on someone and their misfortune.
He'd been getting strange looks since the morning. It was bizarre, he didn't know most of those people. Still the Gryffindor kept on with his usual daily activities. The day was like any other and he would continue to fill out his obligations well.. All until Alec had someone walk up to him, asking if he'd really threatened to duel in the courtyard after his whole great hall outburst. It was then was Alec realized there was a problem, and it was getting completely out of hand. His solution? Ignore it. If he pretended it didn't exist, maybe all of it would go away... Maybe.
With his head held high and the internal mess that was having doubts about the plan Alec entered the great hall. He had half the mind to go and hide somewhere with a book until it all settled down, but did what he knew best and ignored the tantalizing thought. Where were all the rumors coming from anyway? Alec glanced around the room and his eyes settled on one table in particular. Hufflepuff.
Huh... Gossiping hufflepuffs, that was new.
