Rollie Pollie Ollie Pet

It was June 15th - Mouse was going shopping with their mother Aiofe for school supplies. Aiofe went to go pick up something for one of Mouse's older brothers and told Mouse to stay in Diagon Alley.

Mouse did stay in Diagon Alley - sort of. They walked down the street until they noticed the pet store out of the corner of their eye. In the window was a beautiful owl - surely Mouse needed an owl for school, right?

They slipped inside the store, taking a look at all the interesting creatures. There were turtles, owls, toads, snakes, and other beautiful creatures - all were attracting Mouse's attention. Mouse first found a dark green toad - the ribbits sounded like the creature was singing. Then Mouse found an owl, an owl that was white as snow.

All of these beautiful creatures and not one of them Mouse felt a "connection" with. Sean and Patrick loved telling the story about how they found twin owls and immediately found a connection and Liam always talked about how his toad jumped into his arms. Even Mouse's mothers were connected to their animals. Why couldn't Mouse find that? What was wrong with them?

They almost gave up and went back outside to wait for their mother when little chirps and little thuds caught Mouse's attention. Looking over Mouse saw a little brown and white rat - no more than a few months old.

The little rat let out a few soft chirps before rolling - like a little somersault. "Aren't you cute," Mouse let out as they walked closer to the cage. The little rat stopped to look over at Mouse, a little white spot over the rat's brown face. It almost looked like a little mask. "Hi there fella," Mouse cooed, moving to put their finger near the cage.

The rat sat up, tilted its head, and headed towards Mouse's finger. At first, the rat just sniffed Mouse's finger before nuzzling it. This. This is the connection Mouse's brothers were talking about. Mouse had found their friend, and what irony. Mouse, who is nicknamed after a rodent, finds a rodent to befriend.

"What's your name?" Mouse moved to open the cage, letting the young rat scurry into Mouse's hand. As if to answer the rat flipped in Mouse's hand. "You're like a rollie pollie," Mouse let out with a giggle before looking towards the door when their mother poked their head in. "Mummy! May I get this rat? I even thought of a name for the little one!"
