Cold, Damp, and Enchanting
Snow drifted slowly to the ground, each individual snowflake landing silently. The trees were barren, the cobblestone courtyard covered in a soft blanket of white. Navi sat under a large tree, reading the latest book in the series they had started. They were bundled up in a black hat, green scarf, black gloves, and a long black cloak.
Sighing softly, they bookmarked their page and closed the book, then leaned back to look up at the sky. Grey, dreary, yet somehow enchanting. Winter had always been Navi's least favorite season, yet somehow it was more interesting, better here. Sure, it was cold, which they absolutely despised, but it was gorgeous. "At least there isn't any wind, wind is th' worst," They spoke aloud to no one. The castle's high walls kept most of the wind out of the courtyard and for that Navi silently gave their thanks.
They looked around, taking in every little detail around them, committing it to memory. This place isn't something they want to ever forget. They smiled as they thought about all the adventures they would go on here, the classes they'd take, the people they'd meet. Thy were so excited for life to begin.

Cold, Damp, and Enchanting
A 5' redheaded boy dressed in his usual school uniform complete with robes stepped outside to admire the snow. He wondered if Ruka had ever tried fire-dancing when it was snowing outside. Maybe the fire would have kept him warm.
Wandering about the courtyard alone, it wasn't long before he spotted a girl sitting by herself and noticed she was wearing his house colors. She didn't look all that familiar and he guessed she must have been one of the newer members of Slytherin. Curious, he walked over with his hands in his pockets, noticing she had a book with her.
"Hello," he greeted, eyeing the book after regarding its owner. "What're you reading? Anything interesting?"
Now, Jack wasnโt in the habit of making friends, but he enjoyed meeting new people when he could. There were always potential enemies to be made and anyway, other members of his house usually intrigued him. Besides, books were some of his favorite things. He didnโt mind having a chat about them every now and again. In fact, he was starting to think he should have brought a book outside himself to read. People could be interesting to find out about too, though, especially when they were new faces.
"I havenโt seen you around here before. Whatโs your name? Are you a first year?โ he inquired."

Navi's head shot up to look at the newcomer. A short boy with red hair, wearing their house colors. They smiled warmly and picked up the book, handing it to the boy. They watched carefully as he studied it, making sure he wouldn't try to damage or run off with it. It's happened before, so they don't really trust people with their books.
"Aye, 'tis a right interestin' book indeed. It's a Sherlock Holmes story, ever heard of 'im? He's a right canny bloke," They explained, studying him carefully. He seemed nice enough, and it would be nice to have a friend. New people always excited them, and they could barely contain their want to ramble incessantly about anything and everything. Instead, they settled on answering the boy's second question.
"Navi Lovatte, First Year Slytherin. And who might ye be?"They stood up and extended a hand, smiling brightly at him. They looked around at the scene before them and sighed quietly. It was nice to have company for once. After all, they hadn't made a single friend yet.

Cold, Damp, and Enchanting
When the book was handed to him, Jack took it with mild surprise before inspecting it more closely. When he was finished, he handed it back. "Ha, who doesn't know Sherlock Holmes?" he asked with a laugh, amused. "Well, I guess I don't know if purebloods would be aware of him since his stories are for muggles, but they're really good. I liked them a lot, even if they were just fiction. It's funny how much people can learn from fiction."
The corner of his mouth quirked up at the girl's Scottish accent, his own accent being Welsh. When the girl introduced herself and asked him to introduce himself in turn, he nodded.
"Jack Burnett, Third Year Slytherin. Nice to meet you, Navi Lovatte." He paused, pondering something. "I normally call people by their last names because first names seem too personal to me, but...your first name, Navi. Isn't that the name of the fairy in the Zelda video game series who follows Link around? The one who's name is short for 'Navigation'?"
He was curious to see if the girl knew anything about video games, let alone which ones he was talking about specifically. After all, one couldn't usually tell another's blood status by their looks. Since he himself was a muggle-born, he was sure there were things he knew that purebloods didn't, but likewise, there were probably plenty of things purebloods knew that he didn't. That was, of course, assuming she was a pureblood. After all, he was living proof that not all of Slytherin's members had to be purebloods.
