This period was difficult for Jessamine, but she ended up getting through it. She raised Diana with authority and coldness, those traits she got after her husband fled. She gave Diana her last name, not wanting anything to do with Michael Carter who she now hates.
Jessamine always told her daughter that she was pure blood, too ashamed to have loved a muggle who left her. Diana therefore does not know that she is of half-blood.
She discoverds her power while she was at the park at the age of eight. Diana was bullied several times by children who told her that she was not normal and who made her life hard. One day, her bullies came near her and started putting her down. When she didn't react, one of them hit Diana, but before his hand reached her cheek, the child was thrown into the air. When she came home and explained everything to her mother, the latter was very proud that her daughter was a witch like her.
