Meet Me There
This had been an odd surprise. Apparently Bridget wanted to meet him today because she had something to say to him. He was not entirely aware about what she wanted to tell him, but curiosity still demanded for him to go meet her anyway. She was a nice girl from what he could tell and the both of them had a couple past encounters such as a snowball fight in Hogsmeade and other things such as a game for s.w.a.g or two. Well whatever the reason was that she had wanted to meet him, it had sounded urgent or at the very least important and so he was still a little nervous despite knowing the girl. What was up? he had no idea whatsoever what could be wrong enough for her to have a chat with him like that.
Alan would walk over to one of the benches in the courtyard, with Tiger following rather close behind him as he went to sit down. The feline would immediately take this as an invite to jump into his lap and curl up between his coat. A small smile would curl around Alan's lips despite him not even being sure what would happen as soon as Bridget would arrive at the scene. Another sigh would escape Alan's lip as he went to give his cat a couple of pets and scratches below the feline's chin. This would always make Tiger purr loudly, with a rumble in his chest which in return would help Alan calm down under any circumstances.
The weather during this lovely day was quite nice as well and so the fifth year would glance into the bright blue sky and watch as a couple of lightly grayed clouds would pass by in thin strings almost shapeless and instead like a drape that would draft itself across the sky. The sun barely being visible, which was also felt. There was no sunny weather, instead a soft breezed would pull at this clothes and tousle his hair as he shifted a little bit to make it more comfortable for himself. Perhaps there was something he could do while he waited? Alan shook his head after that thought and instead kicked away a pebble that sat close to his feet, watching as it skipped across the path before disappearing into the grass at the other side. Another sigh would escape the fifth year's lips.
If he was aware that he would be able to stay on his own for a little while, he would have taken that time to practice his abilities a little bit more but like this he felt like there was no use in doing so unless he wanted to be discovered by Bridget, who would be arriving at any moment now. Instead he would take this time to let his mind wander a little as he delved deeper into his own thoughts.
Yesterday had been a little eventful, though also a lot of fun. He had gotten to meet a couple of new faces, such as Aly and so. He also had been able to reconnect or see other people he already knew from before, such as Bloom. Bridget, was someone who he had only seen for a moment as she also was participating, but they had not been sorted to the same table. Well there had also been Galton, who was always a joy to be around or something like that. The both of them had grown to be a force to be reckoned with on the duelling piste. A frown would find his way onto his face as he remembered the very last duel in which he had been a part of. It had been against Santario which had become a main concern for him since that very moment. Alan was not sure what he should take away from that with Santario. SHe had been way different from anything that he remembered from her or wished to acknowledge. There was no way that this was her. She had seemed so very different? He shook his head quickly, not really willing to spend any more thoughts on her in that very moment. It would simply just upset him and ruin his mood further. He was still very much concerned and wanted to find out what could have happened to her to cause such a shift in her character.
But for now he would have to focus on Bridget or simply anything but Santario if he wished to keep even an ounce of his own sanity. Tiger nuzzled up to him and Alan was happy for the distraction, so he began to focus on the feline some more as he began to play with him, teasing him by wiggling his finger just out of paw's reach to make the cat battle and reach for the prey. But it was always just out of reach because Alan did not want those claws to get anywhere near his skin. Though if he was being honest there had been plenty of times when he had miscalculated Tiger's agility and walked away with scratches and even a few thin scars across his fingers that were barely visible. He simply never bothered to get proper healing whenever he got a single scratch from the cat, after all he would be sitting in front of the infirmary and hospital wing constantly. If he would ever do that then Kelsey would probably hate him as a patient. Also those were tiny scratches, they would barely hurt and so Alan never ever took them seriously. If he was being honest he was surprised even that those scratches could even lead to scars at all.
When Tiger gripped his finger's after all, because he had gotten too distracted, the fifth year chuckled before dramatically trying to free his fingers by wiggling them more. "Oh no, you unruly beast, you got me after all and I have fallen prey to your claws!" he said with a giggle before looking up when he heard the sound of steps. He would twist his head around to look into the very direction from which he heard the steps coming from, seeing the familiar figure of Bridget.

Meet Me There
@Alan Vanes
She'd known she needed to talk to Alan since watching his duel against Santario. It had brought Santario back to the forefront of her mind, for one. When this had all started with a locket to deliver to Thomas, she worried about it a lot. But then November had been rough and all of a sudden it was winter break, the sense of urgency slowly replaced with a resignation that this was the way it was now. Santario was just not the person she'd grown to care for throughout last year. Somehow, she thought more about how to best support the duelling team with the change in her co-captain than the root of the problem.
But seeing the duel? She could convince herself they'd just drifted apart, that Santario might not be doing great but was surely okay, when Bridget saw little of her. Such lies didn't hold up so well with reality right in front of her. Santario looked horrible. She'd only heard of her conflict with Willow during the first stage; seeing for herself the very uncharacteristic near-constant exchange of words with opponents proved something was off. And Alan's shock and hurt were notable because he was Santario's friend. Bridget had only ever been a partner, didn't know her outside of duelling. Alan did, and if he saw a problem, then there definitely was one. She'd considered talking to him right after the duel, but decided against it, for what did she have to tell him that he didn't already know? Santario wasn't right, anyone who knew her could tell you that. A conversation with Alan was still going to happen, but she was going to get something to tell him first.
The library was her go-to for finding answers, and this was no different, Bridget retreating there with a newly-dedicated notebook in odd moments of free time. What she sought was knowledge of what might be going on, and not knowing where to start, she looked at all sorts of things. A mental health issue? Horribly failed spell or potion? Something to do with the hags? She looked into that option a lot, or as much as she could with limited available information on hags, because Marion had free reign of the school when things first seemed to go wrong. She'd attacked Flash, if not others, so what was to say she hadn't gotten to Santario? It was quite possible paranoia was skewing her focus, but she did want to be as familiar with hags as she could in case she ever ran into one again. When she was up in the middle of the night and couldn't access the library, she pored over what she had, comparing observations to hypotheses.
Once she had something to show for, it was a matter of talking to Alan about it. Which should have been pretty straightforward. She had met with people to discuss the school's going-ons plenty of times before, except that was always with already-established allies. Alan seemed really nice, and it wasn't like they'd never talked before, but the limited familiarity had her lacking confidence and she wasn't sure how to best go about it. Being different Houses and years didn't help matters, since she didn't see him frequently, and the times she thought to make an effort to arrange something never seemed an opportune moment. Seeing him at the Valentine's Day event had been just the reminder she needed, and she followed through on her resolve to owl him the very next morning. Her writing tended to be terse--the letter she sent included only a request to meet, emphasized as important, and a time and place--so came off as serious and maybe a bit ominous, but that was likely for the best. She was not coming with good news or lighthearted topics, so it would be easiest if he expected that.
She supposed, as she made her way to the courtyard, notebook tucked under her arm, it wasn't even a guarantee he would be there. Would she meet a relative stranger if asked? She would if it was Alan, but she didn't quite have his reputation for having many friends and held only a fraction of his responsibilities. As soon as she could see out into the open space, though, any backup plans to track him down or explain everything in a lengthy letter were scrapped. He came. And he'd brought his cat--Tiger, wasn't it?--with him, the two playing. She watched them for just a moment, Tiger after Alan's finger and finally getting it, drawing a laugh and dramatic exclamation from the fifth year. But silently looking on for much longer would be weird, and she was going to have to end their play sooner or later, so she left the entrance. She lifted a hand in greeting when Alan looked up, stopping next to his bench. "Hi, Alan. And Tiger, right?"
Deciding it was a little weird to stand while he sat, she settled on the other end of the bench. "Um, thank you for coming. I wanted to talk to you about Santario." She'd started talking with her eyes down on the cover of her notebook, which she held in her lap, but looked up then to gauge his reaction. What all had been said between the two she hadn't been able to hear--thankfully, as it didn't seem fair for a fight between friends to have an audience--but certain snippets that had reached her ears and facial expressions had given her the sense it wasn't great. "I was at your duel, and obviously something's... wrong. I mean, as your friend, you haven't seen her act this way ever before, have you? And, there's nothing you know of that might be causing her to act off?"
