Daddy,
I never meant for this to happen, and I know it is a sore point with you, but I cannot help this. I truly cannot. It would be easy for me to simply keep it to myself and not even tell you, but that does not seem the wise thing to do, nor is it the relationship I want to have with you. I tell you everything, so please do not be angry with me because I am so happy.... well mostly happy! My studies are going well. I am applying to my House's Duelling Team. I have friends. I am doing everything I should be, so I am doing my part here.
The thing you were most afraid of has happened.... or at least it has for me. I met a boy, and Daddy, he is WONDERFUL! His name is Simon. Simon Ezra Kincaid to be precise and he is 14 months older than me. Do not worry. There has been no kissing, unless you count the fact that he just moments ago kissed my hand. That is why I ran straight to the Owlery because I knew I had to tell you. Had to tell someone or my heart might just explode. He does not know it yet, Daddy, but I am going to marry him one day. Consider yourself the second to know. I am the first, of course. :-) It might take a lot longer for Simon to catch on, but I can be patient.
And oh, you can rest easy because he already has a girlfriend, but do not hold that against him. He has been a perfect gentleman and his personality reminds me of you!
Tell Mom and Grandma Ruth I love them and hug my Hillary for me.
I love you, Daddy. You are still my best fella!

Darling AngelFyre,
I am not angry with you, and thank you for telling me. I do realize you could have simply kept Mr. Kincaid a secret all to yourself, but I am glad you did not. I am touched and honoured you trust me enough to confide in me. Your confession is safe with me. I hope to meet your Prince Charming at some point before the wedding, once he realizes he is your Prince Charming, that is. Like you, I can be patient. Let him take all the time he needs --twenty, thirty years. Whatever time he needs is fine with me.
You are growing up so fast -- much more quickly than your mother or I would have it in our perfect world. It is especially hard for us because it is mostly happening out of our sight. We are missing so much of your daily life now and so many of the things that will inform the choices you make and impact the person you will become. I feel confident we have given you a good foundation, but we have to trust you to fall back on that foundation in times of sadness and uncertainty, and yes, even in times of elation and certainty. You know right from wrong. You have your faith and I hope you are holding close to that as well. The thing I most want to say to you is this -- enjoy! Enjoy it all. Drink it all in deeply. Your friends. Your lessons. Your loves. Even your heartbreaks. Your victories. Your defeats. They are all the star stuff and star dust that will help to make the beautiful and glorious constellation that is you, my darling AngelFyre.
Thinking on the complicated world of tender love you are now embarking upon put me in mind of just how quickly time passes. I enclose a poem I wrote today after reading your letter. If you do not understand it now, you will one day when you have children of your own.
Lines and Spaces
Penciled lines marked on the doorway chart
your dizzy rise. With eagerness, those
lines have flowered from their simple start
to climb with you. And you, a trellised rose,
poise breathless in your spring. Should I oppose
your steep ascent, your rush to fertile places?
No, my child, grow these lines. Who knows
how high their crest, how green the next oasis.
But do not wonder when I linger in the spaces.
I love you.
Dad
P.S. Your mother and grandmother both insisted I tell you that they are enthralled with Mr. Kincaid's middle name.
OOC -- I did not write the poem; it was saved long ago and was written by an unknown author.
