Love at First Sight
Delphinia had not seen her father in a while, and she had missed him dearly. So, much to the dismay of everyone around them when he had arrived, they had hugged each other and had a tear-filled reunion; It was clear that Delphinia's father missed her just as much as she did him. They had sat down on a nearby bench to have lunch as Delphinia chatted to him about the things she had been doing at Hogwarts. She told him about her few new friends, how she was doing in classes, about her house, and nearly everything from the day she had arrived to what shoes she had worn the day before. The entire time, her father was nodding and smiling; Normally, this would be something someone who didn't care about what she was talking about did, but her father's smile was genuine; It was a smile that told everyone around that the girl sitting next to him on the bench was his daughter, and that he cared more than anything about every word she had to say. After she was done going on and on about what she had done, her father smiled wider. "That's great, Del!" He told her. "I'm so proud of you! And, I also have a surprise for you." Delphinia tilted her head. "What is it?" Her father smiled and showed her a picture of a Hufflepuff student with an owl, then one with a cat, one with a toad, and then a mouse. Delphinia knew what he meant immediately and gasped as tears filled her eyes. "I'm getting a pet?!" She shrieked, more of a quiet shriek than a loud one. Her father nodded, tears filling his own eyes, presumably out of pride. Delphinia hugged him, giggling and sniffling, trying to stop herself from bursting out crying. A pet. It had been just what she needed, without realizing it! She had been lonely without her father to talk to and all the kids on her street to play with... But a pet would be like, a friend that would never leave her! She nodded to herself. It was just what she needed, and it was perfect.
Delphinia, her father, and her mother entered the pet store together, Delphinia carrying her measly 7 galleons. Her mother walked over to the cats. "Del, what about this one?" She asked, picking up a grey cat. Delphinia looked at the cat. "No thanks, Mom. This one isn't the one I'm looking for." Delphinia didn't know which pet she was looking for, out of all the ones in that vast pet shop, but she knew she would find the right one eventually. Her father motioned to the owls. "You told me in your last letter you kept having to borrow your classmates' owls!" He smiled at her sheepishly. Normally she loved her parents and would just smile at what she considered was just them being silly, but now, she brushed them off, annoyed. "Mom, Dad..." She muttered, trying to get them to understand, "I need to find my pet for my own. It needs to be a pet I feel a connection with." She then heard a small Ribbit behind her, and turned. She walked over to the area where all the frogs and toads were in. Her father walked over as well. "A toad!" He said, visibly proud she had at least found an animal type. "A toad?" Her mother murmured, visibly disgusted. "Here, darling. You have to put your hand in and see which one comes close to you." Her father said, watching her. Delphinia eased her hand into the area which the toads were in and waited. Eventually, a small Spotted Toad hopped directly onto her hand. She then waited for it to look up at her; And it almost immediately did. Being the loving girl she was, she gasped in joy. "Father, I like this one, and I bet he likes me back! Can I get him, please Father?" She spoke frantically and quickly, holding the toad up to her father. "Of course, dear." Her father laughed. Once they paid for the toad, Delphinia and her parents walked out, Delphinia cradling her new friend in her arms and grinning widely.
