Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution

It was their time to shine.
Ever since they were young, Simon always wanted to be in the center of attention. They would always enter every contest just so they could win, which usually happened. He had a whole shelf of trophies at home. Other kids may have been annoyed, but that was their problem that they were not good enough, not Simon’s. Teachers may have told them to give others a chance, but maybe if the other kids had been better at what they wanted to participate in so badly, Simon would not have to show the crowd what they should have been seeing- a flawless performance.
So when they saw the posters hung up, they knew that they just had to join. They had the voice, and the years of occupying himself with a piano definitely gave them some experience. They were, in short, perfect for the job.
Simon entered the room and saw who they were guessing was the person who put up the posters playing a cool-looking guitar. Simon unfolded his blanket and put it on the piano seat before they walked over to the random boy. “I’m Simon. Are you the person who put up those posters? I’m here to join. II can play the piano.” They gestured to the piano seat, which he had covered with a blanket (who knows how dirty it could have been? Not Simon)
Once the boy had given their answer, they would walk over and practice some song they had memorized on the piano, waiting for the others to show up- if there were any other people who were interested. Simon hoped so- they did not want this to flop. He did not want to be known as the kid who joined a failed band.

A band... a band! A ROCK band! She didn't need to be no pop star, no Ariana Grande. Instead, she could do one of the things she was good at. NOT singing like a pop star. She could yell... but in a musical way. And she only knew that she would do good for a rock band. The reason she didn't sing for frog choir was that she couldnt do soft singing. Her singing was just as powerful as her voice itself, and she could NOT stand to sing low. Now, a rock band! This was a great way to get more friends and be known for a good thing, not for just fighting.

She walked into the rehearsal room happily and looked around. Someone she didn't know, and... ARI! "Ariiii!! Hi!" She jumped up and down and waved to her friend. " I'm SOOOO excited. " And she was! Really was.

She walked over to where the other person was by the keyboard. "You can play a keyboard? COOL! I basically can make... " And how would she describe it? She just hoped it did not sound strange. ..noises with my mouth andddddd I'm really good at loudly singing. " She gave a thumbs up to the person and paused. "OH and I'm Juniper. What's your name, just so I know?"

Ari found his heart beginning to race with excitement as the first person walked into the rehearsal room. Someone had actually noticed his posters! This wasn't a total flop already!
He stopped playing and put his guitar down, standing up to shake hands with the other boy. He'd never seen him around the school before. Then again, there were a multitude of people Ari had never noticed around the school. He wasn't too socially inclined.
"I am the poster boy," Ari said with a smile. "Pleasure to meet you, Simon. The name's Ari."
After the simple exchange of words, Ari went back to playing his guitar. He hadn't been playing for too long before two females walked into the rehearsal room. One was wheeling in a drum set, while the other carried a guitar case. He waved to the both of them, then continued to play.
Soon, the drummer girl was set up, playing a beat to match Ari's ditty, and the other girl was strumming her acoustic guitar. From the sound of it, this was a promising group that showed up.
The last person to walk it for the moment was none other than Juniper Kelly, Ari's close friend. He had a bit of a crush on her, but that was better kept to himself for now. He waved back to her, a grin spreading across his face.
"This is amazing! I can't believe people actually showed up!" He said, looking around the room as he set his guitar back down once again. He needed to talk.
"So, as you all obviously know, I wanted to start a rock band. This is, if you guys agree to join, where we will meet. For now, let's just focusing on learning about each other and our musical interests. Okay?"

"Nice to meet you, Ari. Can you sing?" Simon asked out of curiosity. If Simon was Ari, Simon would have started the band just because they could sing.
After waiting for their answer, Simon would go back to their piano, where they would see the first person walk in-a Hufflepuff girl Simon did not know the name of or really seen around. She had a drum set (how did she get that????? he wondered) and immediately went and practiced without talking to anyone. She was pretty good though, so Simon didn't mind. Every band needed a drummer anyways.
The next person to enter was a girl named Lizzy Solace that he knew- she was pretty cool! Her instrument was an acrostic guitar- Simon didn't even know she played that. He flashed her a friendly smile and a wave.
The last person to enter was a redheaded Ravenclaw girl who seemed to be in a great mood and went over to Ari to greet him. Simon glanced down at the piano and played it, not noticing the approaching girl and jumping when they saw them. They jumped when they heard their voice.
"You scared me, jeez. And i sure can!" Simon tapped the keys a bit.
"Well, let's hope that you're good at making mouth noises and loudly singing," they joked. "I'm Simon." They flashed a thumbs up back at Juniper.
"This is amazing! I can't believe people showed up!" Ari said happily, and Simon agreed. That would have been embarrassing for Simon and Ari.
When Ari suggested introducing each other and their music interests, Simon started them off. "I'm Simon, i go by he/him or they/them, and i love rock and some pop. I have been playing the piano since i was four, and i started the keyboard when i was 8. I play classical and occasionally rock and pop, though pop is boring to play on piano."

So far, everyone seemed like good matches for the band. Their preferences were not what Ari was expecting, but that was good, right? That meant more things to possibly incorporate.

"Good, good. Seems like we've got classical, rock, and pop fans. We can definitely use that as influences for the songs we do," Ari said, nodding. He looked around the room, studying everyone's faces, then looking at their respective instruments."Guess that means I need to tell you all about myself, right? I'm the one who started this thing after all."

"So, my name is Ari, short for Arissen. Please never call me by my real name. It's too formal for my liking. But, anyway, on the subject of music. I sing and play guitar. I picked up guitar around 2 years ago, and it's been my favorite thing to do ever since. I play it any time I get the chance. As for singing, my voice is a little out of practice." He took a minute to pause and look at everyone again before he continued. "My music taste is mainly rock music. I prefer heavier types of rock, but I like softer sub-genres, too. Classic rock is also a personal favorite. As for pop, it depends on the song, but I'm actually a very big fan of Korean pop music thanks to a friend of mine. He's Korean." Another pause as he thought of what to say next. "Oh! I forgot. I don't really like classical. Sorry."

He'd spoken enough. Now that they knew about him and what his tastes were, the next step would probably be to experiment with each other's abilities. That was the only way to figure out if they were any good together.

"So, I think it would be a good idea to have a little jam session. That way we can learn about each other's styles and techniques. If we're gonna play music together, we need to learn how each of us plays. We won't get very far if we don't know how Kass keeps time or if Lizzy can play Van Halen or not," Ari said, laughing to himself at the end. Whether the others got the nod to the classic muggle rock band or not, he found it amusing to mention them in a Wizarding setting. "So, what songs do you know, guys?"
