2022, Stage 2 Hufflepuff vs. Ravenclaw: Match 1

Logan looked back at her partner nervously as she made her way up onto the stage. This was going to be her first duel in a long while and she really hoped she would not let her team down. The Hufflepuff listened closely to what was being said, looking at the team they were against as she listened. She had never been against either of the Ravenclaws before, which made her nervous as she had never watched the other duels before and would have no idea what their weaknesses were. Logan was pretty much going in blind, only know her opponents names, house, and what year they were in.

Glancing up, she prepared herself as she heard their announcer finish speaking. Lets hope that this went well. "Good Luck Cody," she muttered to her teammate as she heard the Gryffindor announcer tell them to begin if they were ready.

Clear of mind, confident, Pericles tracked down Tom and stationed at his side. He had gone about his eccentric pre-duel rituals of knocking on trees around the grounds, tossing milk out of his dormitory window, and sitting cross-legged by the lake for an hour. He was ready. Climbing the steps, a pale aspen wand was drawn from a sleeve. After their moderator imparted direction, he uttered a polite "Thank you, Ana," before peering across the piste. Their opponents were offered an assuring smile each, and when it was time to take their stance, he went about the old-fashioned act of raising wand and bowing snowy head. Then, boots shoulder-width apart, arm arched upwards, tranquility alongside low-key excitement giving way to steady concentration. A convivial "Ready?" to Tom.

[font=century gothic]His eyes glimmered. He was full of hope. As soon as the names were being called, he stomped, quietly, to the beat of We Are The Champions by Queen. Once he got to the peak of his stomps, he rose his arms, revealing his fist. He was fistbumping the air as it seemed.

"BOOM darling's. Hey Logan! Ready to win for the honor of Hufflepuff?" [/font]

Wand in hand, the boy practically skipped onto the piste. Thomas was a bundle of energy, uncharacteristically cheerful and excited for the duel to come. Typically, such sentiments would be expressed through some form of smug comments and immense, visible self-confidence. Tom regarded his opponents for a moment, opening his mouth as if he was to talk some serious smack, he shut it. Instead, he looked over to his partner and nodded.

"More than ready. I think this will go very, very well." Thomas had been practicing some new tricks up his sleeve after all! After seeing some excellent spellcasting from both Pericles and in the duel he moderated, he could be described as inspired.

The match was off to an interesting start. Despite the Ravenclaws' seniority, the Hufflepuff team chose an aggressive start. Cody cast a Dancing Feet Spell at Thomas, but the attack was easily evaded. The same couldn't be said for Thomas' partner. Logan selected a Fire-making spell, and Pericles very nearly dodged it but not quite. While the effects of the spell didn't appear to be as bad as they might have been, Pericles was, in fact, aflame. While Pericles was unable to dodge Logan's attack, he did manage to land a most spectacular attack of his own. Thomas was perhaps too focused on his spectacular demonstration of evasion, because his spell didn't come anywhere near Logan.

"Promising start," Ana mused, mostly to herself. This was far better than her last duel, seeing as there weren't duellists shouting about puberty. Of course, it was early in the duel...

[font=century gothic]"Tarantellgra!" Cody said, the wand movement made, spell was cast, but, it was dodged. By Thomas.

"WHAT THE HECK! WHYYYY" Cody bellowed. He was so paranoid at the moment, he had to admit to a groan. Cody was dying to see if Thomas would dance to the tango. He sighed. His wand poised for another attack. [/font]

Logan glanced over at Cody quickly before turning back as the duel began. "INCEDIO DUO" she called out quickly, aiming for Pericles. Luckily her spell hit, not completely, but still enough to cause some damage. She could hear Cody yelling from beside her and glanced over to make sure he was okay. He seemed fine, just frustrated. "Focus Cody," she called out to the younger boy.

The Hufflepuff girl should have been paying attention herself though as she was hit with the tickling charm. She squeaked as her nondominant hand grasped her ribs as a reflex when feeling as if she were being tickled. Giggling could be heard from the girl as she attempted to prepare herself for what was to come.

Encouraged by his partner's enthusiasm, Peri took the stage with an air of confidence. In moments the breath was sucked from his lungs with a pained hiss, the sting of a not-quite-dodged Incendio making his eyes widen and water. He clenched his jaw but tried to relax his body, doing his very best to go into a Pericles-Tier Disassociation, far from the bite of fire. There was a retaliatory gleam in his eye when he barked a terse "Rictusempra!" The spell struck, giving him something positive to cling to in the midst of burning.

Thomas couldn’t even be mad that his spell missed—his opponent had some sick dodge skills (nat 20). At least the spell coming at him managed to be easily evaded, and from what he saw his would-be attacker was in the throes of despair for having missed. It made him laugh, not uproarious or anything, but certainly a hearty chuckle.

"I recommend you get used to that, I’m not such an easy target," Thomas jeered, a smile on his face.
