Stage two of duelling was here, one of the only occasions besides class that seemed to draw one Santario Martin out from whatever hole she had hidden in these days. She was not the same girl that she once was, but it seemed that whatever was going on with her had yet to impede her ever-sharp eyes when it came to overseeing or participating in duels.
Walking to the middle of the piste where her duel would occur, Santario turned and faced the spectators shoving her braid over her shoulder. “Quiet down!” She called for attention, waiting as chitchat died down. “Today, we will witness Autumn Ivy and Lea Hirsch from Hufflepuff and Mars T’ien and Aida Mòrsgor-Ama Ellwood from Ravenclaw duel! Duellists take your positions.” As usual, Santario would wait for them to take the stage and the cheers from their supporters and house to die down, but her eyes would find Mars. That was a person they had dueled with once before. It felt like it could have been centuries ago when Santario was steadying their back during that summer game, refusing to let them fall. She found herself wondering how Mars had advanced and would observe them with curiosity.
Once the duellists had taken their place, Santario would take a few steps back, addressing both teams properly. “We have made one small amendment to the rules. We will go for twelve rounds total or until one full team is eliminated. You know the rest of the rules. Do your teams and your houses proud.” Santario backed out, taking her position. “You may Begin!”

Lea was- a mix of emotions. At first it was a pang of sorrow as the girl was reminded of her previous duelling partner. It was strange to never see her again- they had only met in duelling and yet the idea of 'never' was such a strange and imposing thought. And so the second year would focus on the other emotions.
Like excitement, curiosity, and confidence. She had a new partner- Autumn. There was some excitement to working with someone new, as well as curiosity to see how they'd work together. Sure, there was strategy- but what would happen when things went differently? Lea wasn't sure, but time would likely tell.
Aida and Mars- Lea was pretty sure she had never duelled the two, but the names were familiar from past lists of duelling stages. So they weren't new to this- she wasn't sure what that information meant to her. To be more careful? The girl twirled her wand a bit, before glancing over at Autumn. "Ready?"

Aida didn't know Mars well, but had always had a positive feeling about them. Stepping up to the piste, the pale mage wondered where all the time had gone. How was it that Hogwarts had become such a part of normal life, and basic reality for that matter? How was it that inflicting violence on others through duels had become a daily livelihood for Aida? Tossing a curtain of white hair back with one arm, Aida Mòrsgor-Ama Ellwood settled blue-violet eyes onto their targets.

English ⋆ ParseltongueAnother day, another duel. And another partner, apparently. Mars hopped up to the pitch gingerly, right hand already flicking around the tip of their wand. They kicked at the ground, watching the slight puff of dust spring from under their boots. Man, it was a lot harder than it looked.
This time around, they wouldn't be hitting it. They'd had enough of tasting dirt for a lifetime.
Mars turned to the side, sizing up their new partner. Aida, a pale mage. They'd heard a lot about this one. They had a good feeling about them.
"Third Year, Second Year," they hissed under their breath. Autumn Ivy seemed familiar but Lea... not a clue. The girl looked spry though, ready for battle. All the better, they supposed.
"Ready?" they asked Aida. Didn't really matter though—the duel was about to begin.

Autumn inhaled sharply, stepping onto the podium. She tried to avoid eye contact with the moderator, recognising her as Santario Martin, part of the first team had had the displeasure of losing to in a duel. Maybe, if she was lucky- or unlucky, depending on perspective-, her easy and quick defeat had made her so insignificant and forgettable that the Slytherin had simply no recollection.
Either way, it was fine. This was duelling. It was familiar, and came naturally to Autumn. She didn't have the best track record, certainly, and she had never reacted well to failure, but nothing made her feel the way duelling did. Like there was a rush of adrenaline, a high like none other, that would never end. Still, victory was nice, and she wouldn't get to have it if she didn't get out of her head.
She sneaked a quick glance at her opponents as the moderator address the teams, mentioning the new round maximum. She recognised Mars, and nodded at the dueller in recognition. She immediately regretted it. She was being awkward, and setting too friendly a tone. Oh well.
She didn't know the other opponent, who the moderator had called Aida. That was good, because there were no messy social or emotional obligations, but bad, because she was losing the natural advantage that came with knowing your enemy.
She heard Lea beside her, asking if she was ready. Autumn let out a chuckle, characteristically dry, but with an unmistakeable tone of amusement. "Not at all."

Unfortunately for Autumn, Santario remembered all her duels and even kept extensive notes on them, their duellests, and every move made during them. She typically held respect for every opponent she faced regardless of the outcome; this would include Autumn. However, the two did not know each other beyond that duel, and given Santario’s status of changeling, for the moment, that was probably for the best. After all, it was January, and her birthday was coming up soon enough.
Passive eyes scanned the four duellists as she told them to go, and so far, it would appear not to be a disappointment when it came to entertainment. Autumn pointed her wand to the sky above her opponents, conjuring a dangerous cloud storm over their heads. The dark storm clouds rumbled to life over the Ravenclaws heads, and while electricity crackled, it did not unleash its wrath this round.
Just like Autumn, Mars would aim their wand at the air around them instead of directly at an opponent. As they successfully cast their fumos, a thick smoke would start to bellow from the tip of their wand, slowly enveloping all four of the duellests.
Aida was an aggressor straight away casting a blazing fire that roared across the piste at Autumn, but the young badger would not be hit this round managing to get out of the fire’s way, but she would still feel its destructive heat.
Lea would also take a direct stance with her target of Aida. It would seem that the Badgers had accurately predicted Ravenclaw’s strategy because Aida would feel their tongue become rigid and unyielding in their mouth just as Mars’s fumos took over the piste.

Aida grunted an affirmation at Mars before extending a black bulbous swamp stick of a wand at Autumn. While Aida was felt focused, their aim simply didn't match their intention and their bolt of flame flew to the side of the evasive target. Annoyed at themselves, Aida threw back an arm as if to sweep back a curtain of long white hair that was no longer there. Today was the first day of short hair in Aida's life, and they were simply not adjusted yet. We're just getting warmed up, thought the pale mage.

English ⋆ ParseltongueRight off the bat, Mars had a plan. The silver-haired mage beside them had an uncanny sense in the dark—all the better to abuse against the light-dependent opponents facing them. It would, unfortunately, also effect them... but it was a small price to pay in the long run.
Raising their arm, they said firmly, "Fumos." The jet of black fog began pouring out the tip of their wand, filling the piste. Mars grinned—weather charms were the best.
Apparently, Autumn thought so too. They grimaced as the thundercloud appeared above their head—for the love of gods, please not today. Luckily, the stormy cloud above only let out a warning rumble, satisfied to stay dormant for the time being.
By now, the fog had almost filled the whole stage. Mars watched with rapt interest as it began fully obscuring their vision—and at the last second, before Aida disappeared, they watched the Tongue-Tying Spell hit.
"Sh*t." So, not exactly to plan. Mars stood in the middle of the cloudy fog, clutching lightly at their wand. Okay. Well. All they had to do was survive just one more round.

It seemed Autumn had succeeded when clouds started to form- rumbling the threat of lightning, but not yet taking action. However, the girl was quick to realize that there were far more clouds than expected. Brown eyes found the caster- Mars- as the smoke clouds continued to fill the piste.
Her main focus, however, was on Aida as she cast, "Mimblewimble." The hufflepuff would just barely see her spell hit before the smoke covered her eyes. Inconvenient, but it didn't seem as bad as the charm cast by Henry a stage back. Now just to figure out what to do next.
