Gryffindor v Slytherin
A chilly Saturday morning, the spectators would mill about the high point of the hill that overlooked a majority of the track. Binoculars hung around the necks of the most prepared youths and oversized mugs of hot chocolate filled the gloved hands of the even better prepared Hogwarts students. Broom Racing is a recently revived sporting activity that gained popularity after Beauxbatons visited Hogwarts during the last year.Date: January 8, 2022
Time: 10:00 am.
Weather: Cold, moderate snowfall.
Match: Slytherin vs. Gryffindor
Moderator: @Aurora Ranvier & @Avery Gallows
Armed with shiny new brooms, the Gryffindor team would mount their brooms. Their handsome captain Nicholas McCowan, a second year that quite possibly thinks scars will attract the chicks (he is right) would flight over to the start. He was followed by a young man that resembled a wall with mutton chops that could beat most loggers unconscious, the Gryffindor broom-racing co-captain Hugh Lowe (Merlin had a sense of humor naming that one). The duo was followed by their upperclassman and Prefect, Xailah Alptraum a fifth year and likely early target of every offensive spell. Levi Drakos, a second year Casanova would meander and some to a stop in Lowe's shadow. Two metamorphagi, Slytherin might be in trouble. Finally, the youngest and smallest among them Della Barfield would make her way to the start.
There were house elves on hand to drag away the injured and unconscious. Nurse Kelsey was going to likely be pulling an all-nighter after this match. The crowd would start cheering for the Gryffindor Racers, this being their first race of the year, it was the hope of many that the Lions would have a strong season this year.Gryffindor Racing Team

A light snow would start to fall as the verdant clad house of snakes mounted their brooms and made their way to the start. Their captains were on the sidelines, both of them strategists rather than racers Opeila Winters and Starlee Kennedy. The recent interest in the new sport was enough to garner their minds but not their presence on the track as the third year captain and second year co-captain watched the rest of their team fly to the starting line. Wyatt Starkley and Thomas Lestrange, both third years would start the line-up. This would be followed by Scarlet Salvatore and Violet Carrington, a of young wizards that would soon learn of their destructive talents. Finally, a first year and possible potential prodigal talent Vale Ashwood, a first year would make her way to the start point.
Spectators would cheer the Slytherin Team, there were members of the crowd that certainly had their favorites and they made that apparent. The actual course would be reviewed, a gentle and slow loop of the course so that everyone was aware of the expected route. There were a number of challenges for the racers to overcome, they would have to weigh the options of speed and safety as they attempt to navigate this race.Slytherin Broom Racing Team

Hugh's figure landed with a big thump on the grass. He kicked away some snow and tucked on the collar of his uniform. "I never liked dressing up." he grunted as the others could see multiple stitches holding on for dear life as they tried to contain the massive body inside. He'd looked like he had rolled up his sleeves, but in reality they were just measured a little short. The same went for his trousers, which had the tall boy look like he was wearing breeches. His socks tried to make up where the legs were left bare.
The part-giant turned to his captain. "Whatever it takes to win, right?" He smirked as he held his copper helmet under his arm. He swung the broom across his shoulder and eyed the other team. There wasn't really any of them he'd recognize. Hugh cursed himself under his breath as he wished he'd been a more sociable kid. Then again, if he was just wishing to be one for the sake of getting one up during a race, it wasn't really necessary.

Nicholas swallowed hard, the action serving to bring some moisture back to his too-dry mouth. God, he was nervous, exceedingly so. His white knuckled grip on his broom shaft was proof enough of that, the newly appointed captain was stressed, although he was doing his best not to show it. He breathed in deeply, letting the worries flood away with the exhale, at least to a certain degree. The booming voice of his part-giant co-captain cut through his mess of thoughts, bringing the second year back to the present.
Relief flooded Nicholas almost instantly, and he answered the third year’s smirk with one of his own, “Aye, whatever it takes.”
No point acting like some worried ninny, not when there was a race to win. False-bravado returned to the boy’s expression and posture, the rigidness of his spine fading to nothingness as he returned to a far more comfortable slouch.
“Let’s send the snakes hurtling back to Earth,” Cockiness filled his voice as he mounted his broom, whether the emotion was forced or true even he did not know.
The captain took to the starting line, the nearly brand-new silver arrow sitting somewhat comfortably beneath his legs. Time to discover whether his hasty training at the end of the preceding calendar year would pay off.
Nicholas scanned the opposing team, most faces unfamiliar, only the entirely unpleasant mug of Violet Carrington standing out. Upon seeing her, he rolled his eyes, making sure the gesture was overly embellished enough that the Slytherin could not miss it. But, it was not the opposing team that caught his attention, but of a particular figure in the crowd. Christ defend, Aurora was there, with a sign declaring how hot he was.
The boy blinked rapidly, trying to ensure that what he was seeing was there in truth, and not some sort of peculiar vision. Certain that, yes, indeed, the girl was in fact cheering him on, he turned his head away, worried that she would be able to see his face turn to the same shade of scarlet as his uniform, even from such a distance.

[font=times new roman]Wyatt chewed the inside of his cheek as he flew alongside his teammates to the starting line on his Silver Arrow. Racing goggles rested on his forehead, his hair a curtain over them. The boy wasn't one to get nerves until he was in a situation that would cause him to be nervous, but he hoped that the delay meant he was going to be okay. He was not. Though his ability to wipe any sign of emotion from his face helped his look, Wyatt had a feeling the awful, tight feeling in his stomach would stay until the end of the race.
Broom racing was clearly a more dangerous sport than even quidditch, especially if it was kids playing. Wyatt wasn't thinking that when he was bored out of his mind so much as to sign up for a sport. He didn't regret it, though. Training had been good for him. Far better than wasting away wallowing in self-pity, anyway. He tried to remember this as he approached the line. Deep breaths found their way in and out of Wyatt, and he began to feel calmer, more prepared to win. And against Gryffindor, no less. Wyatt landed.
Broom in (calculatedly relaxed) hand, he eyed the opposite team and realized they were all strangers to him. A cat-like but raven-haired girl stood in the front of the group, and behind her stood a boy who would have looked tall and muscular without the burly part-giant next to him. Or at least Wyatt assumed he was part-giant. That level of growth for a full human near Wyatt's age would be insane. A short-ish boy looking like he'd spend a bit long on his looks this morning and a young-looking blonde girl were nearby.
Wyatt turned his head to try to find his captains in the stands for a moment before looking back at the Gryffindors again, just in time to notice an intense stare followed by an exaggerated eye roll from one of the weirdos. After Wyatt traced the kid's eyeline back to his second-year teammate Violet Carrington, he asked the girl, "Who's that kid? Thick neck, long hair," he specified, his head nodding in the boy's direction.

@Wyatt Starkey | @Nicholas McCowanViolet woke up feeling considerably cheerful that day, jumping out of bed to comb her hair and do some homework so that she would be ready before her first broom racing match, she runned where the event was going to take place, however anxiousness took over her as she remembered that broom racing was not exactly an easy sport. Her walking speed dropped as she appreached her teammates and opponents, the strength in which she was holding her silver arrow becoming weaker. Violet was supposed to be a Slytherin, how could she chicken out all of a sudden? Her palms were sweaty because of how nervous she was, but considering how reserved she is of her emotions, Violet did not show any of this to her teammates.
It seemed like her usual self came back when she spotted McCowan rolling his eyes at her. Oh that son of a- Vi's hands formed into a fist as she glared at him. No, she should not start a fight here. He will pay by seeing her team win against them, the Slytherin thought proudly.
"Who's that kid? Thick neck, long hair,"
Violet turned around to face a kid with brown hair talking to her. Because of the looks of his racing uniform, he seemed to be in the same racing team as her. ''Oh that guy? McCowan. Forgot his first name, and I don't want to remember it, takes too much space in my brain-'' Violet rolled her eyes once again as she tried to find disrespectful ways to describe the person she so disliked. ----Okay, so Vale's original intentions on joining the broom racing team were a little...let's say, far-fetched. Her original intentions, being that she would be taking the thrill of terrorizing people like a serial killer with a knife would on a Halloween night.
Banner: @.Opeila Winters
Well, as she would come to find out herself, the victims would have knives of their own. And these victims had experience in the business already. But oddly enough, that only made Vale even more excited. Easy prey was no fun at all, but prey that can fight back? It made the reward all the more sweeter.
Vale barely took note of her upperclassmen's conversation among each other as she came over. She was far more invested in the environment around her instead. People cheering, her searching to see if Hildegard really did come to watch her as promised. A large smile wrapped itself across Vale's face, "How wonderful! So many people came to see who's going back to their families in coffins today!" A sigh escaped her lips as she hugged her broom against herself.
"Nothing like watching your friends and loved ones die horrible, and painful deaths! And we get first hand experience of the violence too!"

Gryffindor had quite the... interesting ensemble. And if it had not been for the brooms, or the grounds on which the gathered, one might have thought that the group was a small traveling circus. They fit the bill; with their Strongman, pale-haired wonder, and pair of peculiar changelings (that part being a mystery); Nicholas McCowan as their ringleader. If none found broom racing to be the right fit; at least the lion pride had a possible future as sideshow attractions.
Captain McCowan and Co-Captain Lowe were the first from Gryffindors team, to enter the racing area. Behind them seemingly tailed a whisp- a chilly statuette carved from living shade. Xailah Alptraum. Quiet always, yet her presence was intimidatingly prominent, in the most beguiling of ways, when noticed. She followed after as the duos shadow; her footfalls falling in place where Hugh had stepped, leaving no clear imprint of existence. Her Moontrimmer- dubbed DeSoto- swung in hand like a reapers scythe; the fuzzy dice hanging from the sheath jangled in jolly contrast. The pandemonium from the spectators fed the changeling girl; temporarily satiating a dangerous hunger. She bathed in their cries, like a cat soaking up sunlight. Yes. This felt quite alright. She began to feel an intoxicating buzz- exactly like the one that had surfaced at her first race, and the few to follow. She was so ready for this.
The time spent waiting, was also used to consider who the lions were going up against. Xailah glanced about the area. Her eyes, a twinkling gold, brushed over the racers on the Slytherin team. There were a few faces that were quickly recognized: Opeila- Pericles cousin (or so she had been told by the boy, during a horrible spout of caffeinated ramblings- who knew if anything he had said that night was true), miss Starlee from Frog Choir, a girl from S.W.A.G, and Thomas Lestrange. Thomas was good fun. Not for the right reasons though. He was a joy to prod. Poking him was about as entertaining as poking a beehive full of honeybees- very fun, but not entirely recommend as a safe source of entertainment. Xailah sent a small, taunting wave his way. The majority of the Slytherin team was familiar- save for a small girl going on about coffins, and a dark haired boy talking to one of the girls. Xailah wasn't sure if that made things better or worse, considering the nature of the races. Oh, what did it matter to her anyways? As long as she didn't have to see them- or tend to them for that matter- in the hospital wing, all would be well. Pulling her hair away from her face, and adjusting her winged goggles, Xailah began preparing herself for liftoff. Gryffindor had this in the bag. Or so she hoped.

Why was it, pray tell, these days always felt so anticlimactic? Picture it! Really. You spend an entire first semester enjoying filler episodes, just to have the mid-season finale dose you with a rather attractive group of pitied teens, playing out a scene they’ve watched in their dreams for the past many months. Levi peered to the side as he glided to a halt in the shadow of a practical skyscraper, carefully examining the glimmering eyes of his company, waiting for the light to fade out. Where was the danger? On the course, you say, and Levi nods solemnly to you, his dime of a conscience. It’s quite obvious he’s faking but you must clap for his effort.
He didn’t care about much. The loud buzz of the crowd was enough to pull his lips from their dead-straight resting place, but there was something missing. Perhaps the element of hatred he’d had during his previous broom race—Santario’s beautiful, villainous counterpart. Though, the brunet was more likely to chalk it up to the gentle snow, leaving white flakes twinkling in his hair. It was a darling scene, too much so to be the blood bath it seemed his opponents craved. “So,” He exhaled. It’d been too long since he heard his own voice. “S’pose you must be lookin’ for someone to ground you?” A very lazy line to the Part-Giant in front of him, which in an ideal world, would go ignored.
His gaze found the captain, Mop. There was the drama he’d been looking for; memories of their lingering embrace were too eager to flood back through the crevices. “Say we win, you want another hug to celebrate?” Honestly, it was a miracle he could charm anyone, though it was clear his motive was more to fill the passing minutes than catch any of his teammate’s attention. Save the ladies, that is. Better to address them when he wasn’t mourning a sense of passion he never had; he didn’t subscribe to the idea that things that live were the only ones capable of death. Broom racing, he supposed, was the closest he’d get. Not to his muggle heritage in a wizardly homage to Mario Kart, no, but to feeling. An adrenaline rush of genuine danger was universal, and perhaps the sole thing that was.Action Killing timeStats: Sta: 7 | Eva: 8 (9) | Str: 4 (5) | Wis: 6 (7) | Arc Power: 5 | Acc: 6 (8)

Scarlet had struggled to get to sleep the night before the race, lying open eyed on her bed, thinking about the upcoming race, it was more the excitement than any kind of anxiousness that had stopped her from falling asleep. She had squeezed in enough practise before today to at least make her feel comfortable on her new broom, though of course she didn't know exactly what to expect from the obstacles she was to encounter.
Scarlet looked in the direction of the Gryffindor team as she brought her broom to a stop at the start, aside from one girl she recognised from the S.W.A.G duelling game nearer the start of the year and a boy that towered over everyone else, the two teams looked pretty equal in terms of the year groups.
With each passing second of waiting, it felt as though the excitement, and nervousness, of what she was about to do doubled. She was actually on the house team, there were actual crowds of people waiting to see the race she was competing in, she was raring to go.

Della followed her team to the grounds. She was lagging behind. She was taking deep breaths, trying to control her nerves. She stuck to the back so that her teammates didn't catch a glimpse of how nervous she was—they were all older than her and they were probably used to the chaos at Hogwarts. But Della only had a half year under her belt, and she hadn't gotten a hang of navigating the magical world.
But, alas, here she was. On the broom racing team. She had been a last-minute addition to the team after another player had dropped out. Sure, Della had enjoyed her flying classes. Yet last night, as she tossed and turned in her dorm, she couldn't believe she had volunteered to fly through obstacles and with other students. Yes, she had a pretty cool borrowed broom. Yes, the practices had been fun, and she hadn't fallen off the broom, but today wasn't practice.
She looked at the Slytherin team. She recognized the other first-year. Vale. Della remembered her from Ming's duel at the beginning of the year—she had come to spectate and something about her gave Della the creeps. Great.
She took her place next to her teammates, putting on her best "brave Gryffindor" expression.
