Precious Jewel, you Glow, you Shine Solo Pet Finished

The cold winter nights were growing lonelier with each passing day for Orion. The man had suffered from insomnia for quite a while now, and would often take to walking around his office, classroom, and the school's kitchen during the dead of the night when he could find no comfort to lull him back to sleep. Even when he managed to drift off, he found himself plagued by nightmarish imagery of the people he had lost over the years.

When his mother had first suggested Orion purchase a pet, the Frenchman had laughed. He had not owned a pet since his family's husky dog had passed away a few years prior. Pets were sweet enough, but he had never had the time to properly care for one prior to becoming the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. The location of his work was constantly changing as well, making it a rough environment for any creature to adapt to. Now that he had taken on a role as a professor and had more of a steady lifestyle... Things were a bit different.

He wasn't certain what kind of animal to purchase when he entered the shop during the winter holidays, but he supposed his future companion would somehow speak to him. The owls were quite charming, and he had always had a soft spot for them considering their importance to the wizarding community, but he wanted a creature that could sleep next to him during his restless nights.

It was the various cats scattered among the pet store that drew Orion's attention. Lazing bneath a sunbeam, yawning as they either ignored passerbys or meowed in a demand for attention or treats. A smile played on the Frenchman's lips as he strolled up to a few, his eyes scanning over them until they landed on a particular beauty.

With a slim, graceful form, the cat sported a pair of shimmering green eyes, and cocked its head when the professor approached. It released a soft mewl before nudging against the man's leg. Squatting down, Orion stroked the creature's silky fur, causing the curious kitty to purr. He had never owned a cat before, and found the soft rumble to be quite relaxing.

Eventually, he had made himself comfortable on the floor and allowed the cat to climb into his lap. He ignored the hairs that clung to his navy suit as his fingers stroked over the creature's soft fur. It only took half an hour before the former-hit wizard was certain he had made the right choice. After gathering the green-eyed cat into his arms, he carried it over to the counter to receive more information and pay for his new companion. The shop keeper smiled, stating that the Bewitched Midnight Stalker was a classic choice, before asking Orion what he planned on naming the creature.

With a smile, Orion's eyes shifted downwards and towards those large sparkling eyes. They had reminded him of a jeweled broach his mother often wore. "Bijou." He replied. It was a French word that meant 'jewel' and he found it to be quite fitting.
