It was that wonderful time of the year. For most, it was the season to begin prepping for one of the biggest holidays of the year. Hogwarts’ halls were filled with Christmas cheer, with colors of white, red and green filling nearly every inch of the castle.

As someone who did not celebrate the holidays that were recognized in Hogwarts, Maya had a soft spot for the decorations. So much that she wanted to host a decorating event herself. An event that screamed Yuletide and represented the cold weather. What better than to bring the snow inside by cutting up paper to make snowflakes? Of course, there was always a twist.

Located in the Muggle Studies classroom, a few eight-foot tables were scattered around, taking up as much space as they could, but still giving space for friends to mingle and walk around. Maya’s furniture such as the couch and classroom desks that usually were a staple in her room were pushed to the far side to make room for the event.

The tables were covered in dark blue and sprinkled with some glitter to give it a wintery feel when students walked in. On the tables were piles of white and colorful paper. Next to the piles were two different types of scissors: regular scissors and pattern scissors.

While students were asked to cut their snowflakes like how a muggle would, she had a twist at the end. All students were asked to cast one spell at a time after they’ve cut their snowflakes into a design they enjoy. This is to give a fun wintery effect. But be careful, who knows what is to happen afterwards from just a simple spell.

Dialogue: Liana - #09621b
Interacting with: Nobody
Outfit: School robes
Last week before the Winter break. Three more days of classes. The majority of students seemed to be excited about that - going home to visit their families, putting their school books aside. Liana wasn't one of them. It may have been the letter she'd received last week from her father saying she should stay at school for the holidays because he and Lady Ophelia wanted to go abroad. Or perhaps she just didn't know what to do with all that free time that was coming - after all, she enjoyed performing well in lessons and working on homework assignments. Either way, she found herself wandering the halls, alone, not quite sure what to do with herself. Back in her dormitory, some of the girls had their trunks out and were packing - somehow, that sight made her feel gloomy. The common room was full of her housemates chattering about what they'll do while back at home and what presents they're hoping to get, which also made her feel irritated. Even going to the library didn't seem like an alluring choice, since she probably couldn't focus on studies anyway.

Somehow her legs brought her to the first floor. She wasn't sure where she was heading. The DADA classroom, perchance? Maybe learning some new spells would cheer her up. More likely, though, whatever she cast would just backfire on her - like it seemed to to so often. Before she could make a final decision, her eyes caught the open door of the Muggle Studies classroom. There seemed to be something going on in there - something that was open for all students, and not as a part of the curriculum since it was a Saturday. Uncertainly, she approached the door, peeking inside and catching the instructions given by the professor - try and cut paper snowflakes the Muggle way. Her first reaction was to withdraw and put as much distance between herself and this bizarre chore as she could - Father would be furious if he found out she participated in such a pastime. Then, right after that thought crystallized in her mind, she stepped into the room. She wasn't fully aware of what made her change her mind so drastically, but here she was. Ready to try doing something like a Muggle would.

The first-year seated herself at one of the tables and picked up the straight-edged scissors, inspecting the item with some degree of curiosity. She seemed to recall having used something like that when she was smaller and still lived with her mother. Hopefully the memory of how to wield this tool would come back. Carefully, she set the scissors back down on the table and picked up a square white sheet of paper. Liana wasn't entirely sure how this worked, but with a good amount of glancing around at how everyone else was doing it, she managed to figure out the way to fold it. Some more peeking at other people's work gave an insight as to what parts needed to be cut. Tentatively she picked the scissors back up. Slowly and not particularly evenly, she shore off the bottom part of her folded paper, and began cutting small pieces out of what remained. Once the girl felt satisfied with her work and more than a little curious about what the result may be, she unfolded the paper. The snowflake wasn't particularly impressive, but it was symmetrical and that in itself added a certain degree of aesthetic attractiveness. Not too bad for a first try.

Now that she was done with the Muggle part of the exercise, the redhead eagerly pulled her wand out. She pointed the magical piece of cherry wood at the snowflake she had crafted, performing the swish-and-flick motion that was, by now, quite well-known to her. ''Wingardium Leviosa.''

XXXXMuggle crafts. Not foreign to Maggie, no, and somehow harder than wizard crafts and ventures. How was that possible? How was it possible to be so deft with a wand and so unskilled with a pen? In the case of Liana Kerr @Liana Kerr, it probably wasn't all that much of a stretch. That was something that Maggie was having a hard time still realizing. That her new friends didn't know who the Goonies were, didn't have a clue how to use a fountain pen. It was odd, to say the least. Never before had Maggie been in such close contact with people who were so different from her. It was curious, curious, curious that she could come from such a different world and know such different things than the very people she had been promised to understand better. Strange.

Those new friends, though, were Maggie's ticket to a good time at Hogwarts. Wouldn't trade them for the world, even if they didn't know much about muggles. Didn't like muggles, even.

Maybe Maggie would invite Liana over to see a movie sometime. A real movie, one of the ones Liana so frequently got confused at the mention of.

But Maggie digressed. She had bigger things to worry about, like making these stupid snowflakes. Cutting them up and unfolding them, watching the little paper crafts come to fruition. There was something so satisfying about watching something you made with your own hands actually turn out the way it was desired. Was there any way to screw up a paper snowflake, really? They were all abstract cuts and hasty folds. Surely there wasn't a way to screw them up too terribly.

White snowflakes were lame and traditional in all the wrong ways. As she entered the Muggle Studies classroom alone, Maggie grabbed a sheet of red paper. Red, bloody snowflakes. Reminiscent of the bright red snowman she'd decorated in the Great Hall. She folded the paper over and grabbed a pair of straight-edge scissors, cutting out little triangles and circles along the folded edge. She cut the corners off at an angle, then unfolded the big paper to see the entire thing. Out of all the Yule crafts she'd made, this was certainly the best. Bloody red snowflakes to hang from the ceiling and doorframes. As an afterthought, Maggie fumbled for her wand in her robe pocket, aimed it at the snowflake, and made the appropriate motion. Swish and flick. "Wingardium Leviosa," she whispered, watching the little thing float up, up, up toward the ceiling of the classroom.

Cody walked in, happy for the idea of constant creations, creations of making snowflakes. Out of paper! Of course, the boy would find it hard to believe that was possible. Well, he was from America, but the boy hated to make things out of paper. He saw it, once, as killing off creatures. He wasn't a hunter, nor someone who was obsessed with killing, but now, the boy wouldn't mind.

Wouldn't mind making a paper snowflake, that is. A broad grin spread across his face, then he used his fingers to tear the parchment provided, into a square, as Cody folded it in patterns and made it seem like it was a long pointy triangle. Again, not really wanting to have weapons, he used his fingers to tear out tinier triangles.

He unfolded it, looking at the result. His fingers had cuts over it, leaving slight traces of red on the paper. But that surely didn't matter, right? It was paper, it was made to absorb what was put on the paper, as such of blood.

He glanced around the room, surely the others were crafting theirs better. But he just decided to finish what he was doing and walked off with the snowflake he made.

It was just so picturesque and crystalline
But he could never forget the ratio

That morning, Cody was shocked by the quo
He found himself feeling rather divine
Cody couldn't stop thinking about the snow

Later, Cody was spooked by a show
He tried to focus on a line
But he could never forget the ratio

Ari tried to distract him with a forego
Said his mind had become too genuine
Cody couldn't stop thinking about the snow

Cody took action like a grow
The snow was like a toxic shine
But he could never forget the ratio

Cody nosedived like a crystalline hello
His mind became dangerously benign

Avery is not a crafter, she is not an artist, and she is not one who enjoys loud celebrations, yet, something about the Yuletide events though, they pulled the girl in. After lunch, Avery follows a group of chattering 3rd years towards to the muggle studies hall where Professor Galim has set up her classroom for snowflake making. The first year looks around, taking it all in.

After a few moments of observation, Avery walks over to grab a pair of scissors and a few sheets of paper. She wonders over to an empty area to begin making snowflakes, brfore realizing she has no clue what to do. She tries a few times, but ends up making a mess of paper scraps. This, this sets Avery's teeth on edge, not knowing how to do something, having to ask for help. The girl glances around, looking for someone to mimic, but no one is in a direct line of sight.

Avery takes a breath, relaxes her now tense shoulders and walks over to Professor Galim to introduce herself. "Hello Professor, would you be willing to help me out?" The girl looks up, making eye contact. "I have never been very good at crafts and am a little unsure where to start."

Tuesday 21st December 2021
It was the first Tuesday of the Christmas holidays and Lily had spent most of her morning packing her suitcase to go back home. She would probably have spent the whole day on it, given how much of a perfectionist and organisational freak she was, but she wanted to go to the snowflake making activity organised by the professor of Muggle Studies. Since Lily wasn't studying this subject yet, she had trouble finding the classroom and wandered around the first floor for a while before she heard some third years talking about which spell they wanted to cast on their snowflake and decided to follow them.

She made it on time, luckily. Lily hated to be late. She listened to the instructions given by the professor before grabbing a pair of scissors and a white sheet of paper. Then she sat at the table closest to the entrance where Miss Galim was still welcoming students and thought about the different shapes she wanted to make.

Lily loved that snowflake making was one of Hogwarts' Christmas activities this year. She made some every year to decorate her room at home and she was getting pretty good at it. Like everything involving crafts, paper or creativity, she found it to be a soothing activity. She folded the squared piece of paper into a triangle, then a smaller one, and folded it twice again before cutting the excess to get a long shaped triangle. Then she did this twice more. Once she had the three triangles she wanted, she used the scissors to cut them into three different shapes of snowflakes before unfolding them. They had turned out great!

Unfortunately, Lily hadn't learned the levitation charm yet so she couldn't make her snowflakes fly like she would have wanted to. She was thinking about this when she heard a voice saying: "Hello Professor, would you be willing to help me out? I have never been very good at crafts and am a little unsure where to start." Lily looked up and saw a student she had never talked to before. She got up and told the girl who had just spoken:

"Hum... I'm sorry for eavesdropping but if you need help, maybe I can help you." she gestured awkwardly at the table with her three snowflakes. She didn't like to brag but she was quite proud of them. "It's pretty simple actually, maybe I can show you how to make some basic shapes to start..." she added, blushing. She turned to Miss Galim and finished by: "I mean, hum... if that's okay with you, professor."

Nell made her way to the Muggle Studies classroom, eager to cut out some snowflakes. The classroom was well set up for the event, and Nell made her way over to began her crafting. She loved making snowflakes, maybe because everyone's was always different. It gave her that sense of being unique, being different, and that was something she loved. Sometimes.

She choose the regular pair of scissors rather than the patterened ones and picked up three sheets of paper. Three snowflakes seemed like a decent amount to do. She found a seat and got to cutting the paper. It took her a minute to remember how to fold the paper, as there was a specific way she remembered being taught.

With her paper folded, she began cutting randomly. Her hands moved swiftly, creating a unique pattern for her snowflake. The shape she was left with looked off and irregular, and she let out a light laugh. She carefully unfolded it, trying not the rip it. It came out looking quite nice and now she had to cast a spell on the snowflake. She decided she would do the Engorgement Charm.

Nelle pulled out the hornbeam wand that she always kept with her and pointed it at the snow flake. "Engorgio," she said, performing the familiar wand movement. The snowflake most definitely grew in size, taking up most of the table now. Nell moved it aside, moving onto another snowflake.

She thoroughly enjoyed the twist that the professor, Professor Galim, put in the activity. She had needed some practice with her spells anyways. And away she worked, cutting a bit more.

MODERATION POST
It looked as though there were many children who wanted to participate in making snowflakes, the classic decoration of the winter festivals. Many muggles grew up doing just this and it made Maya feel right at home watching them take scissors and cutting away different shapes and patterns at their piece of paper.

The twist was the best part. Most of the students knew these spells, but did they often practice them? Probably not as much as the newer spells they learn. Maya was excited to see what could happen if they had gotten their spell wrong.

Maya watched as Liana had done the famous levitation charm. The snowflake took a couple seconds before beginning to levitate in the air. It began to levitate higher than Maya and in an instant, would flutter back down so nicely. It seemed that the student had done well in her charms class and remembered how to do the spell properly.

"You are more than welcome to keep going. The more snowflakes the merrier," Maya said.

Liana wasn't alone in conducting the Levitation Charm. It seemed that Maggie had wanted to do just that as well. Maya was watching as Maggie conducted the charm. At first, nothing happened, but with a few seconds of lag, it start to flutter upwards. It immediately trickled down and landed on a nearby candle where it burned up into ash. Poor snowflake.

"Perhaps focus more on your spell," Maya suggested.

Maya saw a student who was cutting away making their snowflake, but instead of doing a spell, they started to run out. "Stop right there!" she called out, grabbing the student before walking out. This was going to be a snowflake activity with a twist. It surely wasn't fun to just cut out (no pun intended) without doing one spell on their creation. Something is bound to happen. "You need to do a spell on your snowflake. Go on," she urged.

It seemed that someone needed the help on how to complete the activity. After cornering Stevenson, Maya went towards the young student to try and help them. Only to, however, be positively interrupted. Another student, Bridges, was wishing to help Gallows in their activity.

"Your peer can help you. But let me add that it is important to hold the scissors with your thumb at the top. You'll be moving your wrist around," she said, assuming that she also thought the student needed help with scissors. It was a muggle tool, after all.

Maya smiled at Lily when she wanted to help out Avery Gallows. It was clear that there was some community that resides in the girl. Tis the season to be helpful. Maya watched as she had done triangles as her main choice of shape. It was common to do triangles and strands, but it always made the snowflakes so beautiful.

When Lily opened up her snowflakes, they looked professionally done. It was as if she had done this before. Maya wondered, however, why no spell was given to their snowflake. Perhaps, seeing how young she was, that she did not know many spells to begin with. "If you could choose any spell listed, what would it be?" Maya asked her.

For the first time, someone did a different spell. They did engorgio, where the object grows in size. Maya watched as they did the spell and saw the snowflake grow in size. Except... there was a problem. The snowflake wouldn't stop growing; there was no stopping its largeness. It began to take the size of the desk and it even looked like it was ready to pop.

"Duck!" Maya screamed, and she hid behind an unused desk, hoping others would, too. The snowflake reached its max point and blew up into shredded, white paper confetti that filled the classroom. It looked like snow itself. Maya, walking through the last of the confetti, went to Nell and laughed. "Now that was a storm," she said, giving them another piece of paper to see if they wanted to do it again.

Just as he was trying to leave, he was called back in, by the Muggle Studies Professor, Maya Galim. Apparently because Cody failed to cast a dang spell on the snowflake. THE PAPER SNOWFLAKE HE MADE OUT OF TREE. Cody reared his head towards the Professor, then looked back towards the snowflake in his hand. He was cursed. Cursed to oblige. Cursed to demonstrate intellect. WHY???

Regardless, the boy would look down at his shoes for a minute, trying to decide on a halfway decent spell to cast. Hopefully he wouldn't get in trouble for burning it... no. no burning. There was enough fire as there was already.

A thought clicked into his head. With all the spells he learned so far, Incendio was the only useful spell here. So, time to retract the previous no fire statement, and cast it! "INCENDIO!" The young part goblin screamed as he realized the perfect spell, not aware of the snowflake gaining size near him. But it seemed Maggie Hawkins and Liana Kerr were casting the Levitation Charm upon theirs. But the boy? He would try to light things on fire. Well, the snowflake in this case!

He made the star-trek like shape with his wand, aimed the end of the wand towards the snowflake he made, and again bellowed out the firemaking spell's incantation. "INCENDIO!"

Cain sat off on his own at one of the eight-foot or two-point-five meter tables in the muggle studies classroom with a pair of regular scissors in one hand and a stack of white paper before him. The gazed down at the dark blue table cloth covering the table, scrutinizing it until he noticed the glitter. He was already still trying to wash off the glitter he'd gotten on himself from crafting ornaments and now he'd be adding whatever was on this table onto his hands. T'is the season after all.

He had just the patterns in mind for his project, though he would have to do a few practices to get them all just right. Instead of folding his paper into something like a pizza slice or a fan, he would just fold it in half. He held his scissors open instead of snipping normally to use the sharp point in a more dangerous version of an exacto-knife to cut carefully along his paper to create the image he wanted. A skull in the center with what looked like spider-web patterns around it. Cain read or heard somewhere that every snowflake had it's own unique pattern, this was going to be true for all of his paper snowflakes. Since he did not have a spell to cast on them himself, he was going to either make enough that his professor would consider him a success or find and ask an upperclassman somewhere for some assistance.
Until then he started on another snowflake in expression of his glittery misery, this one had a snake in it. Every snipped out piece of white paper was set aside into a neat pile in the corner of his table while his completed snowflakes would be folded out neatly beside him in a place of honor.
