Thursday | 4 November 2021 | after classes
Aaron Jones had been incredibly unfocused during his classes today. He hadn't been outside in a couple days, trying to catch up on homework that he had accidentally forgotten about, and his restlessness was showing. As soon as classes ended, the Hufflepuff boy went to his dorm and changed into some gray sweatpants and a plain white tee, his usual running attire, then took off on a jog around the grounds.

The thirteen-year-old had been back at Hogwarts for two months now without his broom (which he had stubbornly left at home), so to keep active, he had gone back to his regular sessions of taekwondo and running. Aaron was not the sort of kid that could stay still for too long, so getting outside and letting off some of his endless energy was always a welcome activity. Today the cool breeze of November was setting in and kept him feeling alert as he traversed the perimeter of the castle.

About twenty minutes later, Aaron was headed towards the courtyard and running along one of the castle walls. He didn't know why, but in that moment he looked at the wall and pictured a movie scene where someone would run along the wall. He slowed his pace and tried to remember what movie he had seen that in. What was that activity called again? Parkour? He recalled a time when he was younger and had watched a ton of YouTube videos on it - even trying to do it a few times, but he hadn't stuck with it at all.

As Aaron entered the courtyard and took a look around, he found himself looking for an opportunity to climb like he'd seen in those videos. The arches of the courtyard led up to the roof, which would be a cool outlook. A glance around revealed even if there were others in the area, he didn't see any prefect badges. Not that climbing the castle was technically against the rules... (Jack had really influenced his thinking lately, with ways to get around the school rules).

Aaron took a step back and then ran towards one of the statues poking out of the arches the circled things in that picture. He placed one foot on the wall beneath it to launch himself high enough to grab the stone itself. He successfully grabbed it and began using his upper body strength to pull himself up. He had practiced upper body strength a lot when he was still in Quidditch, so that he could pull himself back onto his broom if he ever lost balance, and he did general body strength training for taekwondo too. It was no problem for him to heave himself up onto the little statue cropping.

He was only able to enjoy his triumph for a moment, though, before the statue crumbled beneath his feet. It seemed he had not chosen a very sturdy one. Aaron fell to the ground quite hard and he winced slightly. Ouch. But the boy had fallen from much higher up during Quidditch matches, so it only took a moment for him to get his breath back and sit up. A quick shift of his shoulders confirmed nothing was broken or out of place, and he doubted he would even get a bruise from that.

He got back to his feet a few seconds later, dusting off his pants. He would need to use his wand to repair the little statue and get it back where it should be. When he raised his brown eyes, he spotted a person looking at him. His face was unfamiliar to Aaron, meaning he was probably not in the same year. Younger, maybe? The dark-skinned boy looked like he had been watching Aaron, so the third-year offered a slightly chagrined smile.

"I'm a bit new at this," Aaron explained, gesturing up towards where the stone thing used to be. "Trying to do a bit of parkour, if you know what that is?"

Hunter once again found himself back in the courtyard. So far, he was beginning to find it odd why this place kept calling back to him over and over, and why he always accepted the invitation. His best guess was that he missed the joyful feeling of nature, the fresh air, and the cool breeze that he didn't get to enjoy often in his classes. As much as he enjoyed spending time with his face down in books, or in the dark dungeons with the feeling of potion ingredients beneath his nails, he still would miss the activities of long walks on the forest floor back at home. The main courtyard was open, with enough greenery to where Hunter could enjoy the quiet tones of the wind or the few mumbles of students conversating. Hunter was luckily still exceeding in his classes, and decided that today he would just rest, perhaps even take some time to reflect on his recent time at Hogwarts.

At first, that was the plan he originally came up with. However, another student soon caught Hunter's eye. As Hunter was on the ledge of the fountain, farthest from the main entrance of the courtyard, he soon heard fast and loud footsteps to his right side. He decided to not mind the sound too much and decided to keep his eyes locked on the sky; however, within his peripheral vision, he could notice a figure standing by the rooftop of the stone arches. He swiftly glanced to notice another boy wearing a t-shirt and some sweatpants. Hunter typically just stook to his class attire of black robes with slight blue for his house, and was a bit curious as to what the other boy was doing. Before Hunter could even think slightly about what the other boy's next actions were, a loud crumbling sound could be heard by the other boy's feet. Soon after, it seems the small stone statue piece the exotic boy was standing on gave way, and he fell without a clue of what was currently occurring. With a loud bang, and the fall of stone, Hunter could already tell that the boy was most likely far from alright.

Hunter became slightly surprised though, as the boy soon stood up, acting as if the fall was nothing more than a slight scratch. His physique and height already indicated to Hunter that the boy was certainly older, and possibly played sports of some sort. In fact, as Hunter thought and looked around, to reach the other statues like the one now broken would require either magic, powerful legs to jump, or powerful arms to pull oneself up. Hunter was more surprised to see the boy being okay, than the fact that a piece of courtyards stone was broken.

The boy looked over at Hunter, and had noticed him staring. When the boy looked over, Hunter soon after slightly looked away out of slight embarrassment of having been caught. When the boy began to speak to Hunter, he could hear him call out about "parkour," and "being new." Hunter looked back at the boy, and lifted his yellow glasses slightly up, "Grey pants and a white tee," Hunter mumbled to himself. Hunter still enjoyed his glasses, and never found it to be a nuisance when he had to lift them up every time he wanted to figure out another student's house. As for this older boy, Hunter couldn't tell what he was. He doesn't recognize him from the dorm or common room up in the West Tower; but nonetheless, Hunter couldn't recognize every Ravenclaw who walked in and out of the tower.

He began to walk over to the boy, but kept his head down and more towards the mess of broken stone that now layed beside both of their feet. The boy could be a Ravenclaw, but he could also be from a rival house. Then again, they are both students of Hogwarts, as Hunter began to think of what action he should take next. "That was rather reckless of you, don't you think?" Hunter said rather blatantly. There was no malice nor disrespect in his voice, if anything it sounded slightly tired. Hunter took out his wand and did a clockwise rotation of a spiral that started out large, and shrank to a central point as Hunter stated, "Reparo." The stone soon after began to slowly rise and re-adjust itself, forming the pieces of a puzzle that it would solve on its own.

Hunter looked up at the now-fixed statue, and said to the other boy, "Parkour? I believe parkour is about fast reactions, right? I presume that was what you were practicing on?" Hunter gave a slight smirk at his response, but it soon faded as he remembered that the stone might not be the only broken thing. "Ah, right. I-I suggest you should visit the nursing wing in case of something being broken. If you feel fine, I would still suggest going down to see the professor in herbology and requesting some Dittany, he may even reward you some points for having mentioned it for an injury."

When the boy began to approach, Aaron's eyes followed his gaze to the statue bits at his feet. Nothing a reparo wouldn't fix (though Aaron would probably have to try a couple times for it to work), but it was still a good thing there were no authority figures around. A second, slightly nervous glance around the courtyard confirmed this.

"Reckless?" Aaron repeated, his eyes refocusing on the other boy and finally noticing the Ravenclaw crest on his robes. "Maybe, but no risk, no reward, right?" Aaron said, a grin overtaking his face. When the Ravenclaw boy pulled out his wand, the Hufflepuff watched him cast reparo on the stone. It immediately began to work, and Aaron took a few steps back to avoid getting in the way of any of the little stone pieces trying to stick themselves back together. He was used to other people being much better at magic than he was, so it didn't come as much of a surprise that it worked so well. But it was still always cool to Aaron, watching things put themselves back together. "Nice spellwork," he complimented.

Aaron nodded when the Ravenclaw mentioned parkour was about fast reactions. "Something like that, I guess. I don't remember all the details - last time I watched YouTube videos on it was years ago. I'll probably need to rewatch some when I go home for Christmas. I doubt the Hogwarts library would have much info on it," Aaron said, his voice suddently turning contemplative. Would the library have any info on it? He wasn't a frequent library user, but he couldn't imagine there being a Parkour for Dummies book in there... right? Well, he probably didn't need a book anyway. It was just a matter of getting from point a to point b as quickly as possible, right? Maybe there were physics involved, so he should ask Syl?

His thoughts were broken by the Ravenclaw speaking again, this time about going to the nurse. Aaron waved off the idea, and made a show of stretching his arms and arching his back a bit to see if anything felt off. It hurt a bit, so maybe he actually would get a bruise, but it definitely wasn't debilitating or anything. "This is nothing compared to what Quidditch training was like last year," Aaron said. "Thanks for the tip, though. Dittany, you said? Maybe I'll mention it during my next lesson with Professor Irons," he said, grinning at the idea of actually sounding smart in Herbology.

"I'm Aaron, by the way. Uh, Aaron Jones," the part where he added his last name sounded off. He knew a lot of people around here seemed to like to introduce themselves with first and last names, so it had been a bit of an afterthought. "I'm a Hufflepuff, third year to be exact. How about you? I mean, I see you're a Ravenclaw, but I don't recognize you from any third year classes."

"No risk, no reward?" Hunter whispered. He never really heard this sort of terminology before. Looking back at the fact the boy could have been caught by a prefect made Hunter feel like there was only risk and no reward to Aaron's actions.

"Hunter Argentum, at your service Mr. Jones. I am a first-year." Hunter responded back to Aaron. Again utilizing his politeness and familiarity of only calling people by titles and last names. Despite his time and few interactions with students around his age, he still held onto this odd habit. Even if someone was younger than him, he'd still show them just as much respect. However, he was dealing with someone older so it only felt natural to refer to Aaron in such a way.

"I-I'm sorry, but I'm not quite familiar with this 'Youtube' you are talking about. Is it similar or related to television since you said it's a video?" Hunter's voice went slightly meek when he asked this question. He never really enjoyed having little to no knowledge about something, so he tended to get anxious or slightly nervous when asking questions like these because it essentially was him admitting that he didn't know much about something. There was also the issue of quidditch. Hunter barely knows much about quidditch, and the last time he talked about it was with another student on the train ride here to Hogwarts. "Quidditch practice sounds rather... unpleasant. Oh! Would you possibly be able to tell me if 'Montrose' means anything in quidditch? I believe it's a team that my parents are a fan of." It was a question that Hunter had tried to get answered back on the train ride, but unfortunately, he can't recall what the answer he was given was. Since Aaron plays quidditch, he would possibly know, right?

"Mr Jones?" Aaron chuckled a bit at that, thinking it was a joke that he'd referenced him that way. But the look on Hunter's face suggested maybe otherwise. "You don't have to call me Mr Jones. That's how professors talk to us. Just Aaron is fine, really," he said, hoping that the kid didn't insist on being formal. Of course it was up to Hunter and whatever he felt comfortable with - Aaron wasn't going to hold it against him if he insisted - but the thirteen-year-old definitely felt like being casually addressed as "Mr Jones" would be weird. No other students he'd met at Hogwarts had done that so far. Some people he knew did just reference each other by last names, though, like some referenced him as "Jones," but even that felt less formal than "Mr Jones."

"Yeah, it kinda is," Aaron agreed when Hunter asked if YouTube was like television. The third-year knew there were lots of students here who grew up in completely magical families, so he assumed Hunter must be among them. This wasn't the first time Aaron had to explain something muggle to a friend, but he'd never been specifically asked about YouTube before.

"Are you familiar with computers? YouTube is a place on computers where people can watch videos, but the big difference from television is that normal people - like just regular people who aren't TV actors - can make videos for YouTube. And you can search for videos on very specific topics, like a how-to video on parkour." He hoped this explanation was useful. There weren't many things that Aaron could say people came to him for information on, but muggle things were one of the few topics he was pretty good at.

Aaron cracked an amused smile when Hunter said that Quidditch practice sounded unpleasant. Then he asked about Montrose. "You mean the Montrose Magpies? Yeah, they're a really popular Quidditch team based in Scotland." It had been a while since Aaron talked about Quidditch teams, but the excitement on the topic clearly wasn't completely gone from the kid. Even though he no longer wanted to pursue a Quidditch career, he still had all that knowledge.

Hunter's family does live in Scotland, so it would make sense that the Montrose Magpies had the possibility of being a team based in Scotland. Hunter trusted what Aaron said and found him to be interesting with the quidditch knowledge. Hunter wondered if Aaron could spread a bit more light on the sport. "Sorry Mr.-" Hunter cut himself off, "I mean A-Aaron, a force of habit. That Youtube sounds rather interesting as well, would it have information on quidditch?" Hunter didn't quite grasp Aaron's explanation very well since he came from a Pure-blood family and they lived in a rather isolated place. They had a few muggle objects that they either used or kept around to collect dust. His family does own a tv, a cable box, an out-of-date VCR player, and a few other muggle electronics. A computer was one he never heard of. Hunter got a slight idea but decided to not focus on that too much yet.

Hunter was more interested in the knowledge that Aaron seemed to have about quidditch. " Could you enlighten me a bit more on quidditch? I-I don't really know much about the sport. Are you a Team-Captain!?" That question got Hunter a bit excited. For a third year to be a team captain was most certainly an impressive feat that Hunter wanted to know. "Sorry... if not you still certainly seem really capable based on how you didn't get injured there," Hunter really seemed interested in knowing more from Aaron. There was that slight glint in his eyes. That kind of glint that a young fan would have if they were meeting their favorite famous quidditch player. Of course, this was only because Hunter was receiving information from a primary source of sorts besides from the Flying class. Also, he didn't really know any quidditch players or other students who played the sport.

"Well, no, because YouTube is a muggle thing. If wizarding world stuff like Quidditch was put on YouTube, I think it would be breaking the Statute of Secrecy, since muggles would see it." Aaron didn't sound entirely sure of the answer he gave, but it made sense in his head. He wondered briefly if any of the YouTubers he watched were actually witches or wizards just doing normal muggle things. That would be crazy. Or what if there were witches and wizards on there doing real magic, but people thought it was just video editing? Well, that probably wouldn't work, since a video camera would probably malfunction around magic... Maybe he could ask Professor Galim, or maybe Professor Zahid would know?

Hunter's interest really seemed to peak when Aaron revealed what he knew about the Montrose Magpies. He wondered why Hunter had never asked his parents to explain, since he had said that was his parents' team. Aaron was surprised by the request to talk more about Quidditch. He felt something in his stomach drop a little, thinking about talking about it. He had once held a deep love for Quidditch, but by the time he had decided to quit, his thoughts on the sport were very complicated. He hadn't flown in months now after that decision, and had gotten into quite a few arguments with his parents about it. Even now back at Hogwarts, he had avoided going to the games last month, and his friends weren't privy to the reason behind his quitting. Just that he didn't want to talk about it.

"I used to be, but I don't play anymore," Aaron said, when asked if he was a team captain. His time as Hufflepuff's Co-Captain had been short-lived and lasted just a couple months, but he had been a member of the team for all of last year. Hunter apologizing made Aaron realize how serious he must've sounded. The thirteen-year-old immediately put on an apologetic grin of his own. "No need to apologize, really. I just haven't talked about Quidditch in a while, but I can definitely tell you how it works," he said.

Aaron launched into an explanation of Quidditch, going through the four different positions (seeker, chaser, beater, keeper) and their roles. He explained about the snitch earning 150 points, and chasers being especially important in closing that gap with quaffle points before seekers could grab it. He explained about how dangerous beaters and the bludgers were. Aaron didn't realize it, but he spoke in a way that was clearly still passionate about the sport.

"So that's Quidditch in a nutshell," Aaron ended his explanation about five minutes later. "And it's true, the practices are kinda brutal, but they have to be, you know? With bludgers flying around and all the blatching that takes place, learning how to fall is kinda important," he added, grinning sheepishly as he looked back up at the statue he had fallen from. "But I do taekwondo too, so Quidditch wasn't my first time learning to handle pain," he added, turning his brown eyes back to Hunter. "What kinda things are you into?"

Hunter kept his ears open to Aaron's explanation and was glad he got to meet the older boy to finally understand how quidditch worked. The talk of the sport always flew around Hunter's head, but it was always between students discussing which teams they like more. He gave a few questions such as penalties for fouls and if Aaron ever conducted or seen cheating go unnoticed before. Hunter had heard previous students talk about cheating and he's seen fights between students and houses about it. From Aaron, quidditch sounded rather fun and slightly dangerous. However, from what Hunter has seen it tends to cause rivalry and rising tensions: "Have you ever made enemies because of the sport," Hunter asked a bit nervously; he himself was never one for violence, it seemed pointless to him.

Although, this was probably due to the lack of violence Hunter has been exposed to. He's had many unfortunate events occur back at home in which he either got injured, gravely injured, or even possibly sick. However, those occurrences never came from malice, hate, or anything that could have been considered violent.

When Aaron mentioned taekwondo, Hunter once again gave a puzzled look, "Tae-kwoon-doo?" a weak and poor attempt on Hunter's part on pronouncing the term, "I-is it another muggle thing? You seem to know a lot about muggles Mr.-" again Hunter had to cut himself off, "A-Aaron. Are you half-blood or just interested in them?" Hunter asked in a rather questioning tone again. Back home he was introduced to muggles before, but he didn't know that students at Hogwarts could be muggles as well.

When Aaron mentioned pain, Hunter could at least understand that. Climbing trees back at home and drinking botched potions without his grandmother's supervision washed over his mind. Hunter actually grew a slight fear of streelers because of a very painful experience he had with a couple of them back home. His grandmother had a case of them as pets, and when Hunter was younger he incidentally touched the spikes of one. "I-I suppose I'm into avoiding pain," Hunter responded with a slight chuckle and nervous tone. "Like a Ravenclaw, I'm more focused on book smarts. Always focused on my homework, but I have a passion for healing and potions too." Hunter was being a bit more joyful in tone as he spoke. He began to explain a bit more about things he's found out and made a point as to how he knew about Dittany for Aaron. Hunter never really talked about himself, nor was he ever asked often. It was fun for him: "Pain really is terrible, so I wanna make sure I can do whatever I can to avoid it and tend to others. I hear Nurse Brumbly allows third years to help in the Hospital Wing, is that true?" Hunter was filled with excitement at this point of their conversation.

Hunter reached into his robe and took out a small vial containing some circular leaved plants, uncorking it he took a few of them out and offered them to Aaron, "Here, you can have some of mine. It's dittany like I explained, I always have some on me, just in case." Hunter gave a small smile to Aaron with the offer, "C-could you tell me a bit more on quidditch, or some other muggle things like that.. ummm... taekwon-something?"

When Hunter asked about making enemies because of Quidditch, Aaron's thoughts immediately went to Rafael. The Gryffindor Quidditch captain. In truth though, their rivalry had run a bit deeper than Quidditch, instead more focused on Lydia. "Not really - there's some friendly competition of course, but I never made any real enemies because of Quidditch," he answered.

"Taekwondo is a fighting style. I don't think it's a muggle thing necessarily, though, 'cause I've met a few friends from magical families that practice martial arts," Aaron said, since Hunter sounded confused by it. Though now Aaron was confused too. "And I come from an all-muggle family actually," he shared, offering a small smile along with his words. Hunter seemed genuinely interested. Although Aaron heard that blood prejudice existed, he had not actually encountered anyone that was straight-up a jerk about him being muggleborn. Not yet, at least.

Hunter went on to talk about his own interest in healing and potions. Aaron listened raptly to the younger student talk about his passion for the subjects, and it explained why he knew about the dittany. He also asked about the healing intern program. "Yeah, some of my friends are in it," Aaron confirmed, thinking specifically of Ileen and Santario. Ileen had been the one to help him when curing the curse back in November, under Nurse Brumby's supervision of course. "Are you thinking of joining when you get to third year?" he asked. "You'd probably do well at it with your knowledge of things like dittany." He didn't know Hunter very well, it was just a feeling he got from the first year's passion about potions and healing.

"And avoiding pain makes sense - most people do. I avoid pain as well, it's just there's a risk when you're doing sports sometimes. It doesn't really get any easier, getting hurt. But you learn how to fall so you get hurt less, if that makes sense," Aaron explained. But he understood that some people flinched at even being put into a position of pain. His brother was one of those people who didn't want to risk the idea of getting hurt so he wouldn't do things like martial arts. But there was nothing wrong with that.

When Hunter asked if Aaron would talk more about Quidditch or maybe about Taekwondo, Aaron would gladly launch into a conversation with him about either topic. Whether Hunter wanted more thoughts on Quidditch, or if he wanted a demonstration or teaching of Taekwondo basics, Aaron would share. And Aaron would ask if there were any potions that Hunter was really passionate about or ingredients that he thought would help with building up physical stamina for things like flying or running. It was a nice first interaction for the Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw.
