Write Me Maybe
September 5, 2021
Technically, technically Verity hadn’t forgotten to write home. You couldn’t forget to do something you’d never planned on doing in the first place. So, really, she was exceeding expectations to write to her guardians at all, even if it had taken her three days longer than everybody else in her year. And she’d written two whole letters! Quantity had to trump quality when it came to writing home, right? Right.
Ugh, Hogwarts sounded so boring when you took all the magic out of it. Still, better to send a lame letter than one full of wands and spells and other things that would for sure set Aunt Liv off. Having it delivered by owl was enough of a problem on its own, thanks very much.Dear Aunt Liv and Uncle Sean,
Sorry for not writing sooner. School’s been much busier than I expected. The train ride was loads of fun. Thanks again for driving me all the way to London. I haven’t had the chance to ask a teacher about taking the Floo home but I will soon.
Anyway, I’ve met tons of great people so far. Everyone is super nice and the food is so good, not like regular schools’ at all. I love the house I got put in. Our dorms are in a tower!! Classes are fine so far. Lots of homework. I’ll write again if anything interesting happens.
Talk soon!
Verity
PS: Tell Devlin and Noah I said hi!
Verity had held back on the magic in that one, too. It sounded happier, though. Her Mum would appreciate that. And the thing about the squid.Dear Mum,
I made it to my new school!! I love everything about it. Honestly, Mum, it’s the best place on Earth. My dorm’s in a tower and it’s got the most amazing views of the forest and the lake. I’ve never seen more trees in my entire life. And the lake’s got a squid in it! Kids feed it toast sometimes. I haven’t tried it yet, hopefully soon.
You’d love it up here for sure. I know I do. It’s only been a few days but it feels more like home than anywhere else. If this letter makes it okay I’ll try sending some leaves and flowers in the next one. Everything smells so fresh and new.
Write back soon!
Ver
Before she could back out of it, Verity wrangled the letters onto two owls and shooed them off. It was a fifty-fifty shot she’d get anything back, but, hey, she’d tried. That was all that really mattered.
