Through the many stages of life, one of many constants is there’s always someone to hate. A person residing under your skin, whether it was how they look, their views, or attitude. For Thomas Lestrange, you could make the argument for a fair few. A sure front-runner, the Slytherclaw, Dealla Prince.

A sure match for Lestrange, often bursting with deadpan sass towards others. A meeting that ironically began with a dance before an overbearing third party who likened herself as Michael Jackson’s heir. As he often does, Thomas took exception, effectively altering an otherwise promising course when casting in his annoyance.

As friends do, Dealla sided with aforementioned third party(Ileen), showcasing the skills that led her to duelling captaincy. She froze Thomas in place, and took her prize in the form of his wand. Safe to say, they got off on the wrong foot, and never looked back.

To follow, a close ice hockey scrimmage that left Dealla on the victorious team. Though Thomas would insist the players in front of him led to their defeat. The boy finally enacting his revenge in a cruel way during a competitive trial, tossing her tokens like treats for a dog.

There were not many interactions to follow other than an icy stare of animosity when the two would connect eyes in the halls, or in the classroom. Much like on this day, as Orion Lécuyer strategically placed them as partners after identifying the animosity.

”Why do you think your partner will excel in DADA?”

A prompt assigned by Professor Lécuyer, solidifying himself as another potential front-runner on the boy’s hate list. In addition, they were instructed to practice defensive spells against one another, a peculiar approach to cure the tension. Or perhaps this professor was one of many on this campus who sipped his tea with a smile while watching the world burn.

Despite Thomas’ helpless pleas that he’s ill, or he has an engagement, he was only met with silent insistence to comply with the man’s bidding. An overdramatic roll of his icy blue eyes left him viewing Dealla from a distance, beckoning her to his table. ”Get up, then. Let’s get this over with.”

Awaiting her arrival to his table, Thomas retrieved some extra parchment from his quill, titling his paper: Why Dealla will excel in DADA. Eyes flickering to ensure the professor was not viewing as he slid the parchment to where he intended her to sit.

If she complied joining his table, the boy would quietly instruct her ”Write yours, and I’ll write mine.”. If Dealla refused to move to him, he would lean back in his chair with folded arms, issuing a smile that was underlined with annoyance.

Not too long ago, Dealla Prince would have said she liked Professor Lécuyer. He wasn't as uptight as many others, and they shared a love for sugar and a history of crime, also known as the time he had helped her break into Professor Booth's classroom. Well, they hadn't exactly ended up breaking into it, but you know. Semantics. So, within his first six weeks at this school, Professor Lécuyer had made a good run at placing himself on her nice list. She had even considered gifting him candy for Christmas, part bribe, part genuine present. However, it was not yet too late to jump list to the naughty side, and considering how this lesson was going, he might soon find himself with some coal in his shoes instead.

Dee shot a glare across the tables, leaning back in her chair, arms folded in front of her chest. There was a distinct pout on her face, both at not having gotten her preferred choice in partner as well as the fact that, of all people in this class, it had to be him. She would have taken literally anyone else. Hell, a Hinkypunk would have been better.

Her eyes narrowed a tad further at Thomas Lestrange's discourteous request, then she looked away, pretending to not have heard. If he was so eager to start, he could come to her, right? Tipping her chair back with one foot braced against the table, Dee stared at the ceiling for a moment, then sighed in resignation. Why did the world insist on being so utterly unfair? What had she ever done to deserve this?

Lifting her foot had her chair dropping back into a horizontal position with a hard thud, and she gifted her partner-to-be with another fierce glare. Fine then, if she had to. She could make the best of it at least, which meant making the whole experience as miserable for him as she could possibly manage. Collecting her possessions, Dee plastered an obviously insincere smile on her face before marching over and dropping her books onto his table. If he didn't get his fingers out of the way in time, well, that was hardly her fault, was it?

The parchment he had provided for her was given a quick look, then an extended scowl at the usage of her name. The idea to write the assignment themselves was... well, it wasn't terrible, although she'd never admit it. Except for the fact that it wouldn't work. "Good day to you, too, Mr Prefect Thomas Lestrange. Oh, no, sorry, ex-prefect, is it? A wonder it took them that long to kick you out." Pure speculation, of course, she had no idea why he didn't hold the title anymore. She sat down, then tapped a finger on the parchment, raising an eyebrow. "What, you think he wouldn't figure that out? Expecting everyone's intelligence level to be near your own?"
