Ghost in the Closet PV Cody Stevenson

21 more days until Christmas. Those five words were enough to put a smile on the first year’s face. As much as she enjoyed Hogwarts Calynn was excited to go home and spend time with her family. What had her brothers had been up to while she was away?

Calynn was almost skipping as she made her way through the corridors. It was one of the rare moments when they were empty before curfew. Strange. Normally there would have been many more students moving throughout this part of the castle. The last remainders of daylight came through the windows casting sunbeams across the stone floor. Outside she could see a clear view of the grounds out to the lake and the forest beyond.

There was something lovely about the feeling of having nothing to do. On a normal day, the Ravenclaw would typically be consumed in her studies but for once there were no pending assignments or quizzes causing her stress. Her body felt loose and free as she continued on her stroll through the castle.

As she was walking Calynn noticed an object from the corner of her eye. A notebook seemed out of place abandoned on the floor in the middle of the second-level corridors but sure enough, there was one. The first-year couldn't help but wonder how it got there.

She picked up the notebook and examined it. It appeared to be in good condition except for a few footprints that had been stamped onto the cover. At this point, another student would have tried to locate the owner but Cal had other ideas about what to do. Her desire to make even a little bit of mischief needed to be quenched.

She checked to see whether anyone was watching but no one was present. Perfect. Calynn opened the notebook. For her plan, it didn’t really matter what was in the notebook, just that the last page was left blank.

A satisfied smirk appeared on Calynn's face as she found what she was looking for. She ran a hand through her hair as she scrawled her desired message in the notebook. "The Ghost in the Closet" was a bit long for a pen name but it was the best thing she could come up with on the spot. When she finished, Cal read the message over.

I’ve got you now.

She doodled a few ghosts on the side of the page of which she was admittedly quite proud. Coming from a girl who had very little artistic talent they looked distinguishably ghost-like. Calynn set the notebook back down right where she found it. It would totally ruin the scary effect if it looked like it had been moved.

It would be boring to leave the note there just like that. What was the point of pulling such a prank if she wouldn't get to witness the reaction? With that thought in mind, Calynn hid around a corner to see if a certain forgetful student would appear.
