Only A Temporary Goodbye.
Slumped back against a chair her eyes strained to find the clock hidden amidst the darkness. "Viktor." She groaned as her legs rocked the chair to tilt before he pushed it back down with a thud. Somewhere within Viktor's delusional mind was a light bulb that said an early morning breakfast was the best thing to do. Her train wasn't disembarking until 10 am which meant, she tapped her fingers against the side of the chair; five to six, six to seven, seven to eight, eight to nine, and nine to ten. "Five hours early. Since when have we've been early birds." Viktor remained silent as he sped about the kitchen with nothing but a kitchen light. He clanked and stirred something secretive. Opened, punctured and whisked away all of his love into one big...
"PANCAKES."
He flicked on the lights as he pushed forward a plate full of stacked heart shaped pancakes with butter that was masterly carved into a wand. On another was a pile of eggs and bacon made to look like her with syrup above it that spelled 'Congratulations'. Kyoko heaved herself up right as she stared down at his two hour long work. As he set down a cup of orange juice the door bell rang. "At this hour?" She looked away from the set up as he sped to open the door with one big swing. "What's up turd bottom." Ronald leapt inside. "Looking depressed as always worm head." Garret shoved passed Ronald to grab the first chair. "Ya got a plate for us Mr. Viktor. Be a shame to steal sleeping beauties present." Daniel shot a toothy grin as he did his best to keep eye contact. "Huh." One by one her gang piled in, all dressed in what they felt like was their best wear. "The suit doesn't make sense if you don't have the bottoms." She chuckled as she tried to pat her shirt down.
She choked on those words as they shuffled to pull up a seat. Her eyes searched for Viktor, hoping to steal a glimpse from him, but he moved faster than he made the meal. He gathered up plates and pancakes, quickly setting them down before he gripped her shoulder. "I'll be getting you packed. I know we're up a little earlier than usual but we all wanted to do something before your big leave." She shot glances at her crew that had already started stuffing their faces. She knew there was a divide between them. They were the same crew that got her into tagging property and the same crew that would antagonize Viktor. She knew Viktor was never a real fan of them or at least that's what she thought.
"Ya still like me?" It had been weeks since she last ran with them and a few days before she dropped the official news that she'd be moving away. "Just cuse you don't tag anymore doesn't make ya any less of a friend. Besides it was you that kind of moved away from us. I mean shopping with you was pretty fun. Daniel over there was a simp the whole time though." "What?" Ronald shoved Daniel's arm. "Give her the gift already, we're short on time." Kyoko glanced over to Daniel who fumbled to peel a box from his pocket. "Ah..." He coughed as he placed it on the table before sliding it down to her. "Nothin formal. Probably stupid. It's from all of us though." Ronald and Garret denied their participation with buzzer sounds and banging the table. "Its not a frog is it?" She grabbed the box, slowly opening it so that she could steal a peak. "Shiny?" She opened it further to see wedged between velvety cushions, black wolf earrings.
"We or I...I'm gonna miss ya shrimp. You was new to the place but ya easily became one of the coolest cats I've ever had the chance to meet. You goin off to do better things and though we stooges are stuck here, we'll still be rooting for ya." Ronald finished his plate before he tossed out his own box. "Long story short congrats. I guess you can be the president now or knowing you, the Alpha of the pack!" Before she could take Ronald's gift, Garett had also flung a box onto the table. "These ain't free ya know. Ya gotta come see us. You can't forget about us." Kyoko did her best to hold back her tears but it stung like all hell. She rushed to open the rest which she came to regret. Daniel had given her wolf studs, Ronald gave her six bands, and Garret gave her a snug bracelet. The tears were unstoppable at that point as she took her time to slip them on.
The earrings were light and to die for. The bands went on her left and right fingers-three on each; the thumb, the middle and the index. The bracelet fit snug on her right wrist and her tears landed on their arms. They hugged her tightly for a few minutes before they separated to help clear off the table. Kyoko ate quietly as they poked fun at the other. She cherished her time with them, before and now. Before she knew it, nine had rolled around and Viktor was setting her belonging by the door. "Alright boys off ya go." Daniel helped Kyoko out of the chair and to the door. Viktor had done his rounds of turning things off while the trio skipped out a few feet away. "Anything to say sweetie." Viktor shoved some of the cases out onto the road. Sharply she inhaled as she shot them a wave. "It's only a temporary goodbye guys. I'll be back on every holiday and every chance of an off day."
The boys smiled as the counted with their fingers, one two three, "AROOOOO." The yelled at the top of their lungs before darting off toward the town. "Swell boys yeah." He looked down to see her crying into her scarf. "Hey now, you're gonna ruin that face of yours if you keep crying. Come on, lets load the stuff into the car and be on our way. Kyoko followed reluctantly and tried her best to stop the tears as they drove to the train station. With seconds from boarding she finally managed to reel herself in to say her goodbyes to Viktor but even that was hard. "Send me letters Hm? I want to know all about your new experiences over there. " Kyoko nodded her head.
"I'm gonna use these last few minutes to level with you. You were an unexpected gift. I knew the troubles that came with you. I knew about Renee and all her bad habits. You may think you got the short end of the stick but I don't see it that way. Your the best daughter I could've asked for. Don't think that your 'curses' are what shackles you. You've made me a proud parent so I'm not sad that I'm sending you off. Educate and explore, that's all I ask. OH. And come home for the holidays even if its just one." Kyoko bit her lip as the steam rolled and the horn sounded for its last call. "Hey-." Before he could say anything else she slammed her face against his stomach. If she had more strength she would've knocked him down, maybe even broken a rib with her hug.
Its hard to breath...She thought as she peeled herself away. "Its only temporary." He smiled as he patted her head. "Its not even temporary. I'll see you soon little one." Kyoko sniffled as she turned away to run on the train. She didn't want to look back at him. She knew if she stole a glance she'd throw her bags out and just run home-run as fast as she could. Instead she found the closest seat and banged her head against the train window. She looked out toward the fields where she'd run, she looked toward the buildings she'd tag. Ughhhhhh. She snapped her eyes closed as she wished her feelings to go away. I miss them already.
