☁ Mentioning ☁

Willow was sad that Annie's time as prefect had finished, why? She didn't know but with how Willow left her position last year she wasn't keen on asking. She knew how personal of a decision that it could be. But, it came with an exciting opportunity of who would be selected as the newest prefect. The young badger couldn't have been more overjoyed when she heard that Jake Morris was going to be joining the prefect team. They had been friends since their first year, having stuffed animal parties with Mildred. He was someone that she trusted implicitly.
It was even more exciting when they got the opportunity to patrol together. Patrolling wasn't always ideal. Willow preferred going to sleep earlier rather than later, so patrols after curfew always left her sleepy. It just meant she got better rest that night. Buttons was securely wrapped around her shoulders, his favorite place to be as she crawled out of the barrels that led to the exit of Hufflepuff. They decided to meet in the corridor right outside the common room. "Lumos." The tip of Willow's wand lit up. While the walls of Hogwarts had torches, she liked to provide extra light so as much darkness as possible was banished.
While waiting for Jake, she leaned against the wall and gave Buttons some idle head scratches.

The first patrol....
Jake knew that Professor Browne always had reasons for doing the things he did. The wise old badger might do surprising things sometimes, but that was because he knew best. So if he had made Jake a prefect there had to be a reason. He wouldn't have done it by mistake or anything...
But why had he picked a prefect who was scared of the dark?
"Lumos," Jake whispered, lighting his wand with a cautious hand. He looked towards the common room exit and took a deep breath to steady himself. He was a minute late, but maybe that had been on purpose. If he was late then he wouldn't be the first one there.
At least he wasn't going to be alone... He really didn't think he could do it if he was going to have to be. His friend Willow was going to be with him though. That would make him feel a little better...And well...there was one more thing. The boy wore a backpack upon his back. He couldn't actually carry Freddie or anything, but well, nobody would know if he was brought discretely along, right? It would just look like any old backpack...but at least Jake would know he was nearby.
The small Hufflepuff crawled through the barrel exit, that was so much like the holes of a badger's den. Inside it, he hesitated, as if looking at an invisible wall. After dark, the exit of the common room felt like a barrier you weren't allowed to cross. Now Jake had a badge...and that meant he wasn't just allowed to, he was expected.
The boy gathered his courage, and slowly emerged into the empty corridor. In the light from his own wand he almost missed the light by his side, until he turned and saw a figure. The boy jumped slightly, letting out a tiny yelp before realizing who it was.
"Oh, um...h-hi Willow" he said weakly. He tried to force a smile, but Jake wasn't very good at hiding his emotions, or the way his arms trembled slightly. "A-Are ya ready to patrol?"

☁ Interacting ☁
@Jake Morris
Willow heard someone coming through the barrel and turned her head to greet them. Hopefully it was Jake because she really didn't feel like giving out a detention this early in the night. She couldn't help but jump slightly at Jake's yelp, but honestly she understood. The first patrol was always a little nerve wracking, especially the nighttime one. For Jake's sake, she pretended not to notice that he was frightened.
"Yep yep! I even packed snacks in my pockets if you want anything." The biggest benefit of third year was having the option to go to Hogsmeade every weekend. In her pockets she had chocolate frogs, jelly slugs, sherbet lemons, as well as snack size packs of muggle snacks that her parents sent her. "I always get a bit peckish." She pulled out a little treat for Buttons and handed it up to him. "So does Buttons." She started heading out on the all too familiar route, wand lazily pointed to the front of her and occasionally sweeping the hallway.
"Do you think you'll ever get a pet Jake? I think you're one of the only ones in our year without one." She knew he had Freddie, but there was something about Buttons that made everything seem easier to handle. She was grateful to have her red tabby companion along for the ride of Hogwarts, at this point she didn't know what she'd do without him.
