My roommate saw me on here and is thinking of making herself an account. I know there's a ban on multiple characters and we have to warn someone to avoid issues. Do I do that here, or should I send a private PM to a particular person?

It is more common for proxies to overlap (because those tend to come from cheap websites) and some may be banned already because someone used them to multi. There are a lot of VPNs and it is very unusual for a VPN to be shared by many people in the same RP community, it can happen as a lot of businesses and schools use a VPN and if someone from the same school or workplace joins the community we will see a VPN that is shared. This causes someone like me to manually review the IPs and seek evidence of unique IP usage consistently. Running to a coffee shop once or twice and using the wifi on one of the multi-accounts really wont work with me because I can tell. Sadly, we do have a lot of steps for account reviewing, the first step being us asking -- hey do you know so and so. If all your siblings and 9 of your friends join the site we will likely be very suspicious but I have seen large friend groups join a community before also. Again a trademark of this being true is seeing consistent use of unique IPs (when you use your cellphone rather than your desktop, when you use your home PC or your work/school PC and so on). There are also other things that we admittedly check, but that would be a lot more detail than requested.

VPN or not, HIO site policy requires two or more people with shared IPs to inform a HoH (Lear/Jensen/Elaine Pendrast/Caradoc Browne/Marcus Iwasaki) regarding this.
It is preferred to inform them before the second player joins, but it's not uncommon that the opposite happens (and be granted a permission to join).
Every time a new potential player who shares your IP would like to join, you need to inform a HoH. So for instance you're already a member here, and then you tell a HoH that your brother wants to join. After both of you join, your sister also wants to join. You need to inform a HoH again.

Hi Professor! I was able to contact Headmaster Lear with my roommate's information including her intended character's name before she registered. I understand why the validation team needs to be careful about double accounts. We're trying to be as careful as possible! Fingers crossed she is validated soon. Thank you for your reply!
