Calypso Speaking
Others SpeakingPost layout and graphics by Calypso CastellanosCalypso had said farewell to her parents and younger sister before reaching the platform, so now she was in her own with her twin brother Atlas. “Come on, we need to get a compartment before there’s no space left.” She said to him, and the two of them found an empty one. “This one looks empty.” Atlas stated like it was the hardest thing in the world, so, naturally, Calypso added on: “Nice work, Captain Obvious,” which made them both smile.
They sat down, and Calypso got out her book. Though her brother did not quite feel that she wanted some quiet, and kept pestering her with jokes. Not good jokes either, just really bad ones like ‘Why don’t dinosaurs talk? Because they’re dead,’ and ‘What’s red and bad for your teeth? A brick.’ She rolled her eyes and nudged him away.
After sitting there for what seemed forever, Calypso realised that the train has still not left the station. She thought about the fact that life was just not fair. This was the second time in their lives that they were being forced to leave their friends and family behind for a new chapter of their lives. It was not fair.
Not long afterwards, someone else appeared at the door, and asked if they could join them. “Of course,” she replied, “I’m Calypso, and this is my twin brother Atlas.” She had a good feeling about this.

Bev rubbed her nose with her wrist, trying to make the itching go away. Curly strands kept tickling her face, but the girl was so preoccupied with finding an empty compartment that she didn't make the easiest connection between the dark locks and the tickling. Pulling the trunk behind her, Beverly kept wondering what her parents were doing and if they missed her yet. Sure enough, it had only been a couple of minutes since she boarded the train. But they really did seem sad to see her go. The attention she was given on the platform -- Raven would love to stick around it for a bit longer.
But then her mum broke off the hug and told the girl to go find a place to seat.
So she did. Or tried to, at least, but every compartment she peered into seemed to be full. Beverly rubbed her nose again before she finally brushed the loose strands away from her face. There! She looked through the windows and saw only two people sitting in a compartment.
Pulling the door, she felt it made a squeaking noise as it slid to the side, "Is this seat free?" she asked the pair, looking from the boy to the girl. "Thank you. And also hi. Umm... I'm Bev," she waved her hand at them, dragging the trunk with her and closing the door behind.

Others SpeakingPost layout and graphics by Calypso CastellanosThe other student introduced herself as Bev, and took a seat. But to be perfectly honest, Calypso didn’t know what to do next. The train was leaving, so she expected it would be just the three if them for the journey. Taking one last look at London, she had decided that instead of dreading her new life, she was going to embrace it. Take the new chapter of her life like it was the first. After all, she had now left her old life twice.
She put her book down, and glared at her brother for a second, basically saying: ‘You will be normal, and you will not embarrass me.’ Thankfully, he got what she was saying, and stayed quiet, getting his drawing pad out to start occupying himself. Good. Calypso thought. At least he won’t be his usual nuisance.
“So, I er-” What are you thinking, she thought, then realised that she had some sweets from home in her bag, and that might come in useful. She got them out, and offered them to Bev. “Would you like a sweet? They’re vegetarian, just in case you are.” Calypso picked up her book, and put it back in her bag.
