Dear Miss Arrington,
It has recently been brought to my attention that you intend to start a chess club at this school, one that intends to retain members even after graduation.

This is a fantastic idea, and one which I believe has significant potential for success. To that end, I would like to officially express my interest in joining this club.

I am a reasonable player of chess and am a solid intermediate player. Even though most of the games I have played are of the non-magical variety, I do not believe adding pseudo-sentient pieces should hamper my play overmuch.

I look forward to hearing from you, and hopefully joining you in this little club of yours.

Yours Truly,

PS: I believe that it might be worthwhile to try host some manner of tournaments or party as a starting point for your club. It would certainly do quite a bit to garner interest amongst the student body, especially as it seems that a large part of them are interested more in the more brawny and physcia; aspects of competition.
