An Unlikely Bond
The news of his father’s life dimmed behind the many present perils. Neglecting the epidemic that’s captured some of his closest friends, and enemies. It was the purpose Thomas needed to get back on track, as if the universe has taken ahold of his boy where his father did not. Delivering the crucial message that any teenager needs to here…you matter.
Thomas felt value, as a resource to help the few friends he did have overcome the reach of old crones’. A one Evelynn Decipio was not among those he would consider a friend, or even remotely close. Though, for all her headstrong tactics that’s to be expected from a Gryffindor, she still retained value. For the simple fact that she cared enough to seek Thomas out, implying she did not carry any ill will on the surface glance.
Lions historically not as calculating as those in other house colors, though Evelynn’s mind resembled more of a mixture for Thomas. Having worked closely with her on the Headliner, she’s displayed a hyper analytical presence in her thought process. An information hoarder, not shy to bludgeon any source of information directly if needed. She was one of the few to call Thomas out directly, instead of following the trail of whisperers. It was this reason that would provide temporary respect.
Not like the boy had time to pick and choose his allies, as it is. Present danger has a way of bringing us together, overlooking the shortcomings to achieve a common goal. This is what Thomas and Evelynn appeared willing to do.
Thomas found the courtyard at the pre-arranged time, arriving about fifteen minutes early. A habit ingrained within from his former hockey coach, who would always say ”if you’re not fifteen minutes early, you’re wrong.”. Allowing the boy time to gather his thoughts and refocus on the agenda at hand after dinner in the great hall.
His clothing, which would be a theme this year, was long sleeve dry fit shirt. Mostly black, with a dark green crest of Slytherin house. A pair of joggers and running shoes bottomed out the outfit. Remaining light and nimble was the priority.

An Unlikely Bond
On the evening of October 23, Evelynn made her way to the courtyard. As cold as the air was, it wasn't the weather that left a chill gripping at her core. Like many of the students that day, she had spent her afternoon in Hogsmeade—one last day of relaxation before the games that would open the quidditch season the following morning. But it wasn't even the stress of the following day that plagued her. Instead, it was the information that had revealed itself in the preceding weeks: Flash's revelation and uncertain transformation. The questions were endless; the answers, nowhere to be found; and trust was in limited supply as one by one, the hags seemed to compromise the integrity of those who were on to them. At this point, Evelynn was willing to grasp at straws and extend olive branches to any who might be willing to reciprocate.
Despite the inner turmoil that brewed a thunderous storm of spiralling uncertainty within her thoughts, Evelynn's outward appearance was one of confident calm. Leather-soled steps, unhurried and measured, whispered quietly against the cobble stone of the area as she made her way up from the grounds. She had monitored the time carefully, hesitant to travel without any sort of back-up, but also unwilling to allow anyone to interfere with what she—or rather, they—had planned for this evening. Not that it was anything particularly dramatic. If everything played out as superficial intent suggested, there would be a meeting of the minds and nothing more. Granted, she knew better than to trust the superficial words of those who played with hags. For all she knew, she could be walking into a trap, one from which she might not return. In that end, she had finally elected to write a response to Flash, informing him of her intent without providing enough detail that he would be able to intervene. She had been asked to come alone, and so she would. And had.
He was easy to spot: an all-black track looking outfit, a large Slytherin crest upon his breast, and a pair of runners. In a crowd of young witches and wizards, he stood out like an ill-dressed tourist. Lingering at the entrance, Evelynn would pause and pull a notebook from her bag, flipping through it and pretending to consult the time-table she had made for herself. Ah, yes. Quidditch practice time. Who would ever think twice about her bee-lining it towards the quidditch pitch the night before Gryffindor's big game? Of course, while she did, she would look up regularly, trying to catch Lestrange's eye from across the distance. Eventually, she would, and the moment she was certain he had seen her and registered her identity and arrival, the book would snap shut and she would turn away from the courtyard down towards the pitch.
Bring shoes you can walk long distances in, the note had said. Well, she had donned—as she always did—her worn leather riding boots. They were up for the challenge. Her steps maintained their previously unhurried pace. It would be easier for him to catch up that way. And he would, eventually, she was sure. It was better this way. There were too many people lingering in the courtyard. Too much risk that someone would be watching and take note if they had interfaced there. At least this way, they could meet up somewhere a bit less obvious. Away from prying eyes.
"Thank you," she finally opened when the opportunity arrived that they could speak—relatively—freely. In doing so, she would yield the directional initiative to him, following the path of his pace wherever that led them. "I realize this must be a difficult situation for you, but I appreciate you being willing to speak with me. I've come alone, as you've asked." Flash's experience was only too fresh in her thoughts, however, and she kept her own awareness keen for any sign or sound of duplicity. Of any steps or whispers other than their own. "I understand that Holmwood has already spoken with you?"
