Image hosting on the server
Hello everyone,

Since the launch of the site, one of my main concerns was the durability of the content (messages, courses, assignments) that are created here.

The images until now were hosted on external servers (also for cost reasons). However, these servers often do not keep them indefinitely (many of the older images have already disappeared) and this also raises questions about security and privacy (these sites set third-party cookies as soon as you view a page with an image on them). Finally, many of these images were very large, which makes the pages very heavy and consumes unnecessary bandwidth for everyone.

So I made the choice, for the future, that all the images that you post are stored on the server. Moreover, all the existing images have been imported: in total, it is a total of nearly 162 000 images for not far from 57 GB which have been recovered! I spent about a week working on it to make sure not to lose any data among several million messages, to convert them, and to compress them. It was not easy!

For the future, you can still add the messages the same way (store on an external site and add the link in your message): the image will be automatically imported as soon as you preview or send your message.

Some images might not have been retrieved, and I'm sorry in advance. It is quite possible / probable that you encounter problems for sending images: do not hesitate to write in the "technical support" forum indicating the link to the image you are trying to import.

All this would not have been possible without the monthly contributions that allow me to have enough disk space: so thanks to them, this could not have been even considered a few months ago ;)

(Re)hello to all!

It is possible that you encounter two types of problems since the update on the images:
  • some important old images have disappeared : unfortunately this may happen, despite all the care I have taken, some images could not be imported ; send me an owl indicating the URL of the concerned post, I will try to restore them by hand ; the window will not be open forever, so I invite you from now on to go and check the images which could be important for you ;
  • I can't insert an image in a post: send the URL of the concerned image in this topic for me to investigate and correct.
Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks in advance!
