Halloween Shenanigans pv Liana Kerr and Aryaan Shamsi

A yet another duelling event. Liana wished she could still be as excited about it as she was when registering. But so much had happened since then. She had already took part in so many games and competitions of arcane skill, and still there was plenty to come. And she was still spent after that horrendous ball. Presently all she wanted was to rest during this weekend so she could go back to her studies with some reserve of energy. Instead, she would likely spend Halloween in the hospital wing. Well, at least she would gain a few more bits of combat experience that she so craved.

She listened somewhat attentively as the blond Hufflepuff explained the rules. Oh, bowing. That was a nice, traditional addition. This little piece of etiquette seemed to be forgotten more oft than not nowadays. She nodded approvingly, although the next point came as a disappointment to her. She knew Expelliarmus! This duel could have been done so fast, and nobody would need to go to the hospital. Alas. She supposed it would have been unfair to her opponent, who may not have yet learned the Disarming Charm.

Speaking of her opponent.

''You're from Mahoutokoro, right?'' she inquired curiously. The school that valued academics so highly. Had she been more social and had she had more free time, Liana would have loved to make some acquaintances and perhaps even allies of pupils from that institution. ''Are you a duellist, by any chance?'' She wished he was. If not, then victory against him would not be quite as enjoyable, while defeat would sting much more.

As the signal to begin the duel was given, she quickly bowed, the way her tutor had instructed her some years ago. Then she raised her wand, prepared to act.

When Cody had talked about duelling, Aryaan just had to take part. Not that he really expected much of it, but it was definitely more fun than classes. Or finding a date for the ball. Or dealing with all the uptight folks.

This was just a chance to let loose, get to know more of the Hogwarts crowd, and enjoy himself. Of course, when he had heard duelling tournament, he had expected more than just one opponent.

Still, at the prompting of Cody, the Indian boy bowed at his opponent. A ginger. And worse, a girl.

“Yeah, I’m Aryaan Shamsi from Mahoutokoro,” he replied cheerfully. “I’d love to chat with you, but I think Cody brought us throw here spells at each other, not words. We can catch up after?”

Aryaan would wait maybe a fraction of a second before drawing his wand with a flourish, trying to make the motion seem grander than it should have been.

“Ready or not,” he all but announced, his wand already in motion. “Here I come!”

He moved his wand in a practised motion, retracing the movements he had done a dozen times before in Mahoutokoro. He would start with a useful little spell he’d learnt off in camping. Hopefully, that would set the tone of this duel.

Win or lose, no one could accuse him of going easy on her just because she was a girl.

Ai, that ball seemed to be disasterous, but it didn't seem to take that much of a toll off of her. But regardless of how she felt towards the boy, she made sure to withdraw her Cherry wood wand, made a movement with the wand, and casted Bullarum Immortalem. It created some magnificent bubbles that made it seem like Aryaan might struggle to get out of the way, and it seemed that he didn't.

Cody had to silently and mentally congratulate Liana Kerr for casting the Bubble Producing charm successfully, because those bubbles were as big as Cody's face was.

It was time for Aryaan to make his shot. Or rather, to cast his spell. He chose Incendio, the Fire Making spell, which was taught in the second class of Herbology. A star trek symbol was made, the incantation proper, and it hit. Of course, the power of the Mahokotoro boy's casting wasn't strong, but it struck the girl. A flame was made on her right shoulder. She would notice it there for two rounds, the heat radiating against her face. And that was because Liana's attempt at evasion wasn't great. As a matter of fact, that's the only reason why her right shoulder is aflame.

Liana and Aryaan both started off strong, and that was something useful in a duel, but only if you can remain strong throughout the duel.

The boy was right, of course. A duelling setting was no place for chit-chat, although she was only trying to be polite to him, as a host of sorts. Despite his cheerful manner, the girl suspected he was one of the more austere pupils in his school, judging from how task-oriented he seemed in this unofficial competition that even Liana didn't take too seriously. Still, she could respect that. Afterwards, she'd have to get to know him better. Perhaps they could even be pen pals, discussing the differences of norms and education at their respective schools? Liana pitied the owls that would have to carry those letters. The distance was what, some five and a half thousand miles, even more? Well, it didn't mater now. She quickly discarded this train of thought, shifting her focus back on the duel.

She chose to cast the Bubble-Producing Charm that professor Zahid had thought them, if only for the sake of experimentation. After all, it was a legitimate duelling spell, even if it caused no harm to an opponent. And she really needed to test more of the magic she had learned, rather than resorting to a small handful of the most effective spells all the time.

Her opponent, however, seemed to have a no-nonsense attitude on this issue as well, responding with an offence that made the girl let out a small yelp and try swatting at her shoulder that was suddenly aflame. The heat was scorching her neck, and most definitely ruining her robe. This boy, Aryaan, seemed to truly be an exemplary student of his famed school. Determined to get the job done, and as quickly as possible. She should probably imitate him in that, instead of conjuring silly bubbles.

Aryaan stopped midway through casting his second spell to look at the bubbles. They were large, and interestingly coloured, and very pretty.

“Oh wow that’s a new one,” he commented, more to himself than his opponent. As if almost forgetting the duel itself, he took a moment to inspect the bubbles. They were varied in shape and size, and looking through some of them gave the world a distorted image. Some of them made the world look odd, with impossible dimensions. “That is super cool. You got-”

A blink. Right, he was in the middle of a duel, wasn’t he?

He turned back to the girl. She’d cast a pretty sight at him, and a part of him wondered if the point was to distract him to get a shot in. It very well could have been, he wouldn’t put it past people to try something like that.

The smallest of smiles played on the corner of his lips, and he tsk’d audibly. “Sneaky, sneaky,” he mock-chided, though it was clear he was more amused than disproving of the little gambit, if that was what the girl was going for and he had;t misread her intention.

Now, what would be the best response?

Well, if he remembered his readings correctly, Bubbles were basically just air. And in the elemental chart, fire beats air.*

A bold glimmer would be seen off of Cody's eyes. He was prepared for what came next. The two opponents haven't killed each other, and that was good. Supposedly.

To be fair, the part goblin grew obsessed with danger. A loud belch would be heard echoing in the Great Hall, but anyone intellegent would know it clearly wasn't Cody. But it wasn't very clear who it was.

Asides from Liana Kerr being on Fire, and she still was, you could see flames in Aryaan Shamsi's eyes, not that he was mad, but that he was seemingly focused when bubbles came out of Liana Kerr's wand, and it would trip up Aryaan.

Indeed, it was a mesmerizing sight, what with the fire and the bubbles, Cody had to sigh. Happily, that is.

Something inside that boy snapped, he stopped being happy for a minute, and looked at the two, glancing back and forth.

"Alright you two. It's time for another round!" Cody said, ready to go. His eyes were out, spotting everything, to see if a single thing was done wrong.

He would now talk in Gobbledegook, knowing the other two wouldn't understand. That was something he took pride in. "Yua lumrsiqur equi ru eleyomf. Tgemj xua svu duqu culomf!" (You monsters are so amazing. Thank you two for coming!)

Liana Kerr was casting Extinguio on herself, and to her own prevail, she successfully ended the horrendous flame on her shoulder. Thankfully, it was gone, but now, she was at a disadvantage; once again. She was being hit with another Fire Making spell; Incendio. Of course, it hit. But, she should praise the stars that she wasn't lit on fire again, just hit with a jet of it.

Would she stand with it, or try to take down Aryaan in revenge? That was up to Liana.

Aaryan seemed to pay no mind to the bubbles; but proceeded to continue trying the horrendous fire making spell. Whose bright idea was it to teach such a dangerous spell to first years? Well, to his luck, Liana didn't even evade it successfully, meaning that Aaryan would succeed yet another attack. Perhaps luck was on the Mahokotoro boy's side. Maybe his Lavender uniform really meant something!

Being on fire hurt. Rather badly, too. The flames singed a few strands of her hair and ate through her robes, biting into the girl's flesh, causing acute shock to the nerves in the area. All she could think of was that she wanted the agony to end; luckily, even in the moment of anguish, her brain seemed to function well enough to supply the necessary spell. Extinguo. She even cast it successfully at the first try, even though her hand was shaking a little and it was complicated to reproduce the required motion while pointing at herself. With the fire gone, she could evaluate the damage that had been inflicted. An angry red wound now marred her shoulder, and the pain was so bad the girl felt like she might spill out the lunch she had eaten. Liana's whole body was shaking, her face was utterly pale, and, strangely, she was drenched in cold sweat. Not that it helped quell the torturous heat that seemed to still emanate from the lesion.

Her opponent seemed to enjoy her agony; or perhaps that was the only spell he knew. Either way, he repeated the attack, this time hitting Liana on her left arm. There was another flash of pain as the heat scorched her robe, creating another hole in it and inflicting a second burn injury that made the redhead's stomach twist with a desire to empty itself. At least this second offence did not leave her thrashing in flames, and the wound seemed smaller, too. For a brief moment of feverish fear she wondered whether her burning skin would char black if Shamsi succeeded in setting her aflame again and she failed to put it out in time. Would magic be able to fix such injury without leaving scars?

Aryaan wouldn’t say he was enjoying himself. Even with the single spell he had used thus far, it seemed like he had had the advantage. The other girl was definitely not fighting back, that was for sure.

How boring.

When he had imagined an illicit duelling event, he had pictured an adventure. Something exciting, and fun. But it felt more like target practice than anything else at this moment, and that was anything BUT fun.

Slowly, the South Asian kid would lower his wand. “Hey,” he’d call out to the girl he was supposed to be slinging spells at. “You sure you want to do this?”


It was his attempt at being nice. For all he knew, the girl was just here because she liked Cody, after all. Girls did weird things like that. Or so he had heard. ‘Pooberty’ he had heard someone call it. Being tall and icky and obsessed with cooties and kissing.

Ugh!

Well, he was not going to let something as silly as a little bit of Pooberty cause someone to end up getting hurt. Especially if she didn’t realize what she was getting herself into in the first place.
She hadn’t attacked yet, after all. So perhaps she hadn’t after all.

Extinguo and Incendio were done. Well, hopefully at least. But the two seem to... take pride... in fighting. Well, if Cody was actually participating, they'd find that he'd be very, very proud of them. But the two... were a little different this time around. This round was odd.

Liana seemed to be determined to at least get ONE attack in, so out of all the spells she knew, she chose Flipendo. Well, he couldn't blame her, it was a interesting spell, just with a little complex wand movement. But Cody was a little suspicious. Was it fair that the boy from Japan was clearly a better evader? The fact that he desired to ensure his guarantee to survive. But if anyone was thinking the same thing Cody was, he'd call it puberty. Hell, it was a jerk. Just like Flipendo.

No matter how much Aryaan would attempt to evade the treacherous spell... it would impact him. Ai, how awful. Then again, he hit Liana with the Firemaking Spell twice, didn't he?

Liana successfully hit her attacker twice! The first with the Bubble Producing Charm, the second, the present one, Flipendo. Cody was very proud of her, but how the two would react to Liana's success, Cody would watch for. Could the young goblin be noticing the fire boy struggling to evade a spell? Wow! Big talk from someone who seemed to like lighting poor Liana on fire.
