Haunted By the Unknown

*Soon to interact with @Emily R. Brewer
The longer time passed, the more it haunted him.
It occupied every moment of his waking thoughts, following him through his daily routines, his lessons, his studies, his time with friends and his music creation. It was becoming a burden and Simon knew that he couldn't ignore it much longer.
Physically it didn't look like much from the outside. It was a small antique wooden box, around 12 inches in length. In the middle rested a metal plate which housed a keyhole. It was locked shut. The key? - Most likely with the box's owner.
The box came into Simon's possession one night over the first month of Summer Break when he was back home in London. It was late evening and there was a knock at the door. Upon answering it, a peculiar man stood with the wooden box and asked for his mother. The man seemed to take interest in Simon but became rather taken aback by the fact that Arabella Kincaid was no longer alive. Such news sent him rushing off quickly, too quickly for Simon to catch up with the wooden box.
Who was the man? What was in the box?
He felt he knew the answers even if there was yet to be evidence to back it up. The man shared the same strong jawline, the same dark thick eyebrows, the same facial structure, ...and the same pale skin. He knew from stories from his Aunt Maggie that his mother had been in only one serious relationship and therefore he was nearly certain that the mysterious visitor had been none other than his father. Perhaps that was why the man seemed to take such a strange interest in Simon himself - maybe he too noticed the similar features.
If that was true, that meant the box contained something that the man brought in hopes to show his former girlfriend. Most likely something from their relationship - perhaps some kind of memories. Why now; after all this time?
There were so many questions that resided just around one little wooden box which had no key in which to open it. Still, Simon was pretty sure that with his strength alone and maybe a little creativity he'd be able to open it with no problem. It was fear that got in the way.
Simon had gone his entire life knowing nothing of his father except that the man and his mother had a brief romance. His mother had begun to feel that something wasn't right about the man and decided to leave, even before finding out she was pregnant with Simon. After gaining this knowledge, she still never chose to reconnect. She pushed it behind her, never even so much as talking about it to her sister, so when she passed away when Simon was three, she took all knowledge of the man with her. No photographs, no stories, no description, no name.
Nothing.
All the answers to any sort of inquiry that Simon had of the man could be resting in that small wooden box. Did he want to know? Why had his mother felt the need to run and never look back? And if Simon was in fact a dhampir, and knew his mum was but a muggle-born witch, wouldn't that make this man a vampire? Was he ready to fully accept that?
The truth rested in that box and whether or not Simon choose to ignore it it didn't change the fact that the truth was the truth. Hiding from it wasn't going to make it go away or disappear.
His small secluded little private room within Hengist Home of the Hufflepuff Boys Dormitory was too small for such an occasion. If Simon was to properly investigate what was inside the box, he would take it to one of his favorite places within the halls of Hogwarts. A good place to gather one's thoughts in a peaceful environment. He made his way up to the Fourth Floor of the castle and into the Rehearsal Room where he sat down across from the entrance, his back against the far wall.
It was time to no longer be haunted by the unknown.

Haunted By the Unknown
Emily had been having a lovely time at Hogwarts, at some moments even to lovely. She had been doubting about so much, that there was nothing left for her to just sit and think. She had her dance with Simon, where she discovered something rather strange. She never wanted to accuse him of anything, which made it harder. He had been such a good friend to her, and she liked him, he was her friend. Which made it even harder. She never though she would think this way.
Simon had cold hands, had fast refleces, faster than she had ever seen before, even for a wizard. For some reason she knew he was different, different than everyone else. She knew he was special, he was a great friend, but that was definitly not it. She decided to head to the Rehearsal Room, to play some music and think about some stuff. As she headed into the Rehearsal room, she was Simon standing against the wall.
"Simon, hi, what are you doing here?" She asked him, she knew something was up, she just saw it. "Just leave it Emmy, i don't want to tal about it, just go." He said. She looked at him, shocked by him just pushing her away. "Well personally, i don't care what you are saying right now, cause you clearly seem upset, so ill just stay here waiting for you to clear up." She said and stood next to him, waiting for him to make the next move.

Haunted By the Unknown
Anger issues in front of @Emily R. Brewer
Simon looked over to Emily, an apologetic look across his face. He didn't mean to snap at her, but where did he begin? This wasn't Haley that knew his 'secret' and he could just begin with everything that happened, picking up from the mysterious stranger. She knew his background, she knew his story, and it would all make sense in little to no time.
No, this was Emily, and while he trusted her so dearly, this wasn't something you just threw out there in the open to anyone - especially someone who's opinion mattered to you. He cared what Emily thought and that made it all the more difficult.
"I'm sorry, Em. It's just...," he paused, bringing his hand up through his hair. Why was this all so damned difficult? Why couldn't he be normal for once in his life? No, he was the kid that couldn't be outdoors. He was the kid with no parents. He was the kid that wasn't even fully human.
"It's just...difficult right now," he said softly. His brown eyes glanced over her way again before glancing down. "I don't know where to begin really. I guess with the box," he began. He didn't say anything else for a moment and knew she'd be confused. So he slid the box into the light more by gliding it forward with his foot. "This box."
"You see, over the summer someone showed up at my door and had this box with him. He looked about in his thirties or so and he had...a lot of similar features as me. He asked for my mother." Another pause. He hated that he seemed dramatic here and that wasn't his intention but it was hard for him to talk about this. "Upon hearing my mum was no longer alive he got quite flustered and left rather suddenly, leaving the box behind. I grabbed it and tried to catch up to him but I couldn't catch him."
The anger seemed to rise in him. The stupid man who might have done his mother wrong for some reason or another for her to end the relationship and never tell him about his own son. Was he abusive? Controlling? That man was one of the reasons that Simon grew up without a parent for so many years and that man was the ONLY reason that Simon was a dhampir - facing potential criticism to everyone he met or would ever meet. Simon became so frustrated that he kicked the box against the wall and closed his eyes, hating that he let that outburst out. Little did he know it was just some of the terrible presence making itself known early on.
The kick, being from that of a dhampir, was strong, and it sent a crack through the top of the wooden box. He looked down, still feeling shameful for letting his anger get to him but also now slid down against the wall and sat, pulling the box up onto his lap. "I think it was - ... No, I'm pretty sure it was my father. I never knew him, not even a name. Hardly a thing about him. I think some answers are right in here but I don't know if I have the courage to look inside. I've been haunted by the unknown for three months now."
