2021, Stage 1 Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw: Match 6

For five years, Aurelia had never participated in an official duel. For someone adept at the arcane, it was quite surprising. But the aristocratic pureblood knew her own worth and it had not been until recently that she had fully assessed and contemplated the risks. Duels were a sport polar opposite from the ones using broom medium. But duels had a factor of perfection and order, a sport that was closely monitored. There were only a few years she had left till Aurelia was married, the end of her adolescence coming to an end. A few years, as the years before her, had flown by and Aurelia had clearly made the decision to make use of the time.

Perhaps it was because of her inexperience that she had been paired with one of Gryffindor's younger years. Rarely had Aurelia showed off her own arcane in public, then again, she was once in charge of the S.W.A.G club that had only begun to gain its publicity recently. Perhaps her prowess had been noticed then. Another possibility was that the Gryffindor Captain had set the fifth year up to fail. Aurelia and Alan were not on the best terms, especially not after he had failed to credit her hard work when the Headliner had featured her former club he had taken over.

Nevertheless, Aurelia was not here to prove herself to her own captains. She was here to win, not for Gryffindor, but for her own name. At the announcing of her and her partner's names, Aurelia would approach the stage. She would bow and move to her position. A fellow fifth year as her opponent, one who Katherine may as well stand no chance against. Aurelia needed to live, to get through her first duel. They'd surely set her to fail to assign the other as her duo. Wand ready, Aurelia would cast.

[font=Times new roman]A new year of duels, a new partner, Del was here to chew gum and kick ass, and she wasn't allowed to chew gum because her granny believed it would live in her stomach forever, therefore, kicking ass was a priority.

She did want this to go well, the teams seemed relatively even, the only difference is, Del and Callie knew what they were doing, hopefully that would be an advantage for them.[/font]

Nothing got Callie as excited as the dawn of a brand new duelling season, especially after a few..less than ideal encounters recently. As Bridget introduced the teams Callie could barely contain her excitement which seemed to manifest in the girl rocking back and forth on the balls of her feet. Going up against a year five utterly terrified her but this year Callie had a new partner at her side and was much less afraid of things going wrong. "Ah, I love the smell of duelling in the morning!" Callie announced with a grin, fully ready to return to the gremlin like habits she'd picked up duelling with Thomas.

A first time for Katherine, duelling. Who thought that she would join the duelling team. Was she scared? nope, Was she nervous? definitely not. instead she just chilled, I think she no longer feels such feelings. nothing would be as scary as her father that's for sure. Her partner is older but seems worthy. Katherine didn't care if she lost or won, she wouldn't benefit anything. this was just to fill her boredom. But she would put a bit of an effort out there just for the sake of it. Now it's all just down to watch and play.

The round had potential, crackling across the stage. Ravenclaw was prepared to deliver a devastating blow to Katherine in the form of twin Knockback Jinxes and Aurelia had the Conjunctivitis Curse, a rather unpleasant spell that caused eyes to swell, up her sleeve. They all performed solid casts, Delilah's in fact looking effortless. As always, that was merely the first hurdle, and hitting your opponents tended to be the trickier part.

Katherine was set on making it especially difficult, not bothering with her wand on the opening round. Instead, she got off her heels and stared down the eagles, ready for any spell slung at her. The evasive focus would aid in avoiding the fifth year's flash of blue, but was hardly necessary for Callie's, the spell flying in an unnatural arc. If anything, it would hit a spectator rather than a lion, though that was why they had protective measures in place. Start of the match nerves, perhaps?

For their misses, at least Ravenclaw would avoid losing ground. Delilah would have little trouble side-stepping Aurelia's cast, left only with the relief her eyes weren't swelling shut on her. The first volley had been well-strategized, Bridget thought, but as the bright lights faded, they would be right where they'd started a minute ago.

Spectator Thread

The hex was cast with ease but with a skilled sidestep, it would find its way nowhere close to her target's vicinity. The downturn of the corners of her lips would portray the slight frustration she felt deep within her core. Then with an internalised speech, she would simmer the short disappointment off, it was her first duel and barely a few minutes in, she had a reason but leniency on her own arcane prowess could be afforded.

Her fellow counterpart, on the other hand, had been taken advantage of and set square as the target. Fortunately, Katherine had dodged one spell, while the second had not been successfully delivered from its wand. At no doubt, the failure of production was due to her own terrifying presence. This round, albeit uneventful, would prove that neither team really held an advantage over the other.

Katherine had dodged both spells evasively making it look effortless as usual. But as she was doing it she had noticed 2 people who had arrived, Although were they here to support her or pray for her downfall? The Asian Justin Beiber and cash. Although she had noticed them she made sure they didn't notice that she found them.

There were more problems at hand, Katherine was getting ready for her next step and on guard for what would come next.

For Callie being flung by a friend into the forest canopy then being rendered an unconscious lump was preferable to starting off a duel like this. Where was the excitement? Where was the drama? WHY COULD HER SPELLS NEVER HIT WHEN SHE NEEDED THEM TO? Truly it was one of life’s greatest mysteries.

Yet she did not ponder the mystery for long and quickly returned her focus to trying to wrestle a victory out of the match. It was best not to dwell on such matters anyway..it detracted from the chaos she loved so much.
