Coriander Bloom, First Year Hufflepuff

Coriander's family has borne wizards and witches for centuries. This isn't to say that they're pureblood, though - they have no problem marrying muggleborns, as long as all offspring is magical. They do have a bit of a bias towards muggles, thinking them stupid and reckless due to their lack of magic. They've always been very close knit, all living in Stamfordham within a few miles of each other. Like a muggle may be strictly religious, the Blooms are very strict about their magic. Mostly about who they share it with.
Due to this, and being homeschooled rather than going to muggle school, Coriander grew up very isolated. She's an only child; it was very difficult giving birth to her, and despite being a witch, Coriander's mother was told she would likely die if she had another child as planned. Coriander's only friends were her cousins, many of whom were much older. Some of them went to Hogwarts during the school year, and one of them was a squib who went to muggle school. This particular cousin got caught up in some less than desirable circumstances, the aftermath of which shaped a lot of Coriander's personality.
Around eight years old, Coriander's isolation reached the peak. It was at this time that Coriander started to break rules simply to meet her social needs. She would go places by herself, usually the park, while she was meant to be with her cousins. Here she would play with others her own age. It made her feel a little better, but none of them were really her 'friends' and so it didn't fulfill the need completely. Her rule breaking escalated into thrill seeking, and now Coriander is a very reckless person. She will do anything if it means that she will get attention from others her own age, no matter how much trouble it will cause.
When Coriander got her Hogwarts letter, she was excited mainly for the people she would meet. For once she would be around the same people day and night, allowing her to make real friendships. She expected to be sorted into Slytherin or Ravenclaw, and had to adjust to being in Hufflepuff. Once accepting her situation, however, Coriander is okay with her house and has school spirit.
