The morning could have been a quiet one, truly peaceful one might think. But one boy sitting with his dhampir friend knew otherwise. There was no way of knowing for anyone else, no suspicion could ever fall on Alan, who while known to be friends with a bunch of non humans, was not known to stir up such trouble. But there he sat, next to one @Howard White as he shoved a fork of bacon and eggs into his mouth when the great hall was flooded with owls. Many of them, mixed with the usual breakfast post, would swarm in and spread out. Dozen, no, perhaps hundred of them would flap their wings, screech and drop down to the tables a handful of flyers. There was no way of knowing whether these would be enough, similar to the Daily Prophet, the students would receive a pamphlet, a flyer of sort with an article printed on top.

Alan like possibly many other curious students, would grab one from the air, as it slowly descended like a feather to fall and took a look at it. His eyes shining with excitement as he took a look at it, gleaming with pride of sort as he placed the fork next to the table and stared at his work. It looked professional, somewhat, just as he had intended. He had spend a fortune on owl crackers to bribe the owls in obliging with their task and for now he would lean back as chaos ensued. He just couldn't have went on normally, not with a second distasteful article printed. He remembered what the first article had done and how much it hurt a few friends of his; both Howard and Nico had been affected by that outcome and he was sure many more dhampirs reputation had suffered after the incident.

He feared for his friends of the non-human kind and felt the need to put himself through some damage control. He would need to take down T.Ruth and the influence they were gaining, whoever it was or whoever many people worked together behind the alias, he wouldn't let them spread rumors of prejudice without fighting back. Perhaps more efficiently so, than his friend next to him, who once had burned the headliner in the past November. But Alan wouldn't want the students to riot, he would instead try to fight back with his own words, well, after all someone needed to tell the real truth, if after all T.Ruth was based on uncalled for prejudice.

Willowest stumbled down to the dining hall. She had finally gotten her hair into its perfect shape; her uniform was neat and tidy. The morning seemed serene, and no troubles had wedged its way into Willowests mind like a thorn yet. The promise of bacon, eggs, and other various breakfast foods enticed her to join a large table of Hufflepuffs who were all eagerly munching away at the regular feasting.

She sat down and grabbed up a fork. Her eyes lifted up to watch the room as spoonfuls of cheesy grits were shuffled into her awaiting jaws. A few hoots signaled the arrival of a few owls. Not just a few, it seemed; a whole parliament of owls came swooping into the huge room, their shrill calls echoing off the walls. Willowest ducked, a piece of egg flying off her fork and onto the floor. She covered her head with her hands in pure fright. She had never seen this many owls before, as she was extremely new to the whole school.

After regaining her nerve, Willowest peeked above the table. A flier had fallen slowly onto her plate. She lifted it up, eyes widening at the persuasive writings. She glanced about. Who had written this? Their was no official signature, only the simple words 'an advocate of non-human students'. The topic of non-humans hadn't crossed her mind before. Everyone around her seemed to look perfectly fine.

West's gaze scanned the room. She spotted some students grinning; others had clenched their fists in obvious anger. Her eyes fell down to the page once more. What was the big ruckus? Finally, she read over the total article.

Willowest's bottom lip quivered at the emotional response to this 'T. Ruthless' that had been mentioned. Poor werewolves, she could only think to herself. Had they really been getting that much hate? Of course- when you're different from half the school, that much was to be expected. She herself could not begin to compare herself to the non-humans described. Her gaze lifted once more, searching the crowd for any signs of the alleged 'monstrosities'. The word formed in her mind without her ready consent. It might've been due to the fact of students' whisperings around her. Their influence slapped West in the face with a sharp hand. 'Monster', 'revenge', 'disgusting'. The same words circulated around and around her. Were these students- kids; really putting down others based on their undecided bloodlines?

Her mind flashed back to an ordinary public school she had attended before Hogwarts. It was much alike in the sense of bullying going on unseen. Oh, how she hated it.

Willowest's sight caught hold of a troubled-looking group centered around a rather smug-looking older Gryffindor. He looked to be way older; her guess was three to five years older, or anything in between. His features came across to her as someone who cared about his friends deeply, based on how he was reacting to the articles. Politics must be a big thing for bloodlines around here, her thoughts read out to her. All she could do was feel bad for the muggles and non-humans present. After all- what could a first-year ever do? She was weak, and hadn't even managed to learn a single spell quite yet.

Looks can be deceptive, so don't tell me I should put on a smile. Maybe I'm secretly over joyous, and you're the problem causing me to frown.

Another morning, another day. Juni skipped down the hall, chatting with some house mates as she headed to the hall for breakfast. She was an early riser, but she had taken time talking today and rushing on some homework, so she came out to breakfast and a reasonable time. To keep up with the long strides of her taller housemates, she was skipping in her black doc martens. Pins on her robes made clinking sounds as she did so. "Yeah, not many people know what Marvel is, and it's so weird. When I went to muggle school, everyone knew it. " Juni turned into the great hall, still chatting. The girl she was talking to spotted a friend and walked away. Juni shrugged and made her way to a table.

She climbed into a seat, brushes her hair behind her shoulders so it didn't get into her food. Taking a fork, she scooped eggs and dumped it on her plate. For someone so tiny, she did have a big appetite. People talked around her as she took some sausage as well. She began to eat, looking for a friend. Spotting a familiar redhead, she waved her hands. "Addy! Addy, over here!" She gestured to the spot next to her and waited for her friend to come over.

Once she did, Juni would greet her. "Morning!" She lifted eggs to her mouth, enjoying the food at the school. She didn't know how this food was made. She looked up. "Oh! The owls! Are you expecting any letters? I don't think I am... " She watched as hundreds of birds came in. "Gosh, there are so many... so many people are getting letters..." But some students seemed as surprised as her. Before her, a couple of things were dropped. She moved her plate quickly so the article didn't hit her food. "What the jelly bean?" She read the headliner. "T.Ruthless... Oh! Like T.Ruth! Wow, that's smart! wow, okay. " She began to read. "Ha! Yes! Someone who's doing something about this. Addy, do you see this?"

Addie rubbed her eyes, which stung from a lack of sleep. As she stumbled down some stairs, headed toward the Great Hall, the exhaustion she felt was remedied slightly by thoughts of a warm breakfast and a moment to collect her thoughts before facing the school day. Upon entering the Great Hall, which was bustling with activity as per usual, Addie laid eyes on the closest seat and walked over, pulling her bag from her shoulder as she prepared to sit down.

But at that moment, she heard a voice calling her name. Looking around, she laid eyes on Juniper, who was waving her down from another table. With a small sigh, Addie dragged herself over, taking the seat next to her friend.

“Good morning,” she managed to mumble, her words turning into a yawn. Her mouth began to water as she piled her plate up with toast, eggs, and bacon and poured herself a large glass of orange juice. As she did so, she could hear the familiar sound of owls overhead.

“Oh! The owls! Are you expecting any letters? I don't think I am…” her friend said.

“I hope not,” Addie responded. “My parents are more likely to send a howler than a letter.

“Gosh, there are so many... so many people are getting letters...” Juni mused.

After hearing these words, Adeline finally broke focus from her food for a moment and looked up. She had expected to see the usual barrage of owls carrying letters or sometimes even small packages, but instead, the birds were obscured by a deluge of papers, gently gliding down to the students. A few pamphlets scattered down onto the table in front of her, covering her food. The headline read “T. Ruthless,” and that’s all that Addie cared to read.

She snatched the pages from off of her food and tossed them behind her just as she heard Juniper say, “Addy, do you see this?”

“It’s just another person sharing some rubbish agenda.” Her voice was muffled through a mouthful of toast. “Just another person trying to tell us what to think, like that article in the Headliner. And come on, if they care so much about sharing their opinion, why are they being cowards and not even telling us who they are?” Adeline washed her comments down with a few sips of orange juice.

Emily walked into the Great hall after waking up earlier just to finish some leftover homework. Her first few weeks at Hogwarts had been amazing but quite a lot, she wasn't used to being so far away from home, and altho she wished to go home for Christmas she wondered how it would be to stay at Hogwarts for the Holidays. She looked around and noticed that the tables were already quite filled with students this morning. They were all enjoying their breakfast quite well. She took a seat at the Ravenclaw table, and looked around to see if she saw any friends close by, she saw a few talking a bit further away from her, but there was no use in pushing herself between the other students.

She grabbed a plate and started filling it with scrambled eggs and some bacon. As she started eating her scrambled eggs, owls flooded inside, they came from everywhere flying around, delivering messages. It was absolutely beautiful. Emily wasn't usually a person who ate breakfast cause it was hard for her to wake up in the morning at all, but mostly she sat at the table just to see the owls flying inside, delivering letters for people. She looked around hoping that one of the owls would bring a letter for her, and eventually, after a bit of waiting an owl brought a pamphlet. She looked at the article and read it very carefully. She had never heard of T.Ruth before but she knew that no one should judge anyone on what they are, people can't just decide if they are Goblin, giant, vila, or Dhampirs. It is dangerous to be not human, it is dangerous to be a witch or wizard. Muggles should not judge us for having magic, we can't just decide if we do or not. Emily felt bad for every student who was a Dhampirs and got attacked like that in the Headliner. "This is ridiculous, why should anyone have to feel like this, these things fear them and make them hide when they should not, it doesn't matter what they are, they are good in their own way, and it has risks, but should we judge them like that just because of how they were born/created? They are not very different from us." She said louder than she actually wanted to say it.

She folded the article and continued eating in silence, hoping for a better day.

Juniper cocked her head, gulping some milk. "A howler? Ain't that a letter that yells or somethin'? Why would your parents send one of those things?" She picked up a napkin and wiped her face, before crumbling it in her hand and setting it back on the table. To Juni, Addy seemed pretty cool and she couldn't figure out why she would get a howler. She wasn't going to keep asking, though, because the owls were the most interesting thing at the moment. Juni has never seen this owls in the hall at once, and she wondered if there was something she had missed.

When she picked up the articles, Addy tossed one away. Juni didn't understand why she would do that, because this was important! It was important to read this stuff to stay up-to-date. "But- Addy-" She protested. She wanted Addy to support this. "Well what do you think about this?" She asked. If addy wasn't going to let people tell her what to think, which Juni supported, Juni hoped she at least supported the cause.

"Well, this is trying to tell us to stand up! And I agree, Addy! We should do somethin' about this!" She lowered her voice. "We have BOOM, can't we like prank those who don't support non-humans?" She pleaded.

"Well, Addy, I know I am gonna do something. I wanna know who wrote this. And if they don't tell who they are, I'll let people know who I am, Addy." Try as Addy might, Juni wouldn't change her mind. She was too dedicated to this cause.

Adeline avoided Juniper’s question about the howlers by shoving another full piece of toast in her mouth. She felt a slight flutter of stress in her chest as she thought about the “Acceptable” grade she’d received on her most recent Astronomy assignment...and the howler that was no doubt on its way from her parents. To them, “Acceptable” was anything but, and while a few “Exceeds Expectations” might slide by, there was no way they wouldn’t address this. Addie pushed away the fear and frustration, refusing to let her emotions get the best of her, and turned her attention back to Juniper and the flyers.

“What do I think?” she scoffed slightly in response to Juni’s new question. Adeline snagged one of the pamphlets that had landed next to her on the bench and gave it a quick skim.

“I think T. Ruth can either mind their own business or leave Hogwarts. No one’s forcing them to stay here. If they have such a problem with non-human students, they should just go home. We don’t want gits like that taking up space in our school anyway.”

“We have BOOM, can’t we like prank those who don’t support non-humans?” Juni whispered.

Addie noted her friend’s change in volume, though she made no effort whatsoever to lower her own voice. She didn’t care if any T. Ruth supporters were around. In fact, she hoped they were listening. Maybe they needed an example of how not to be a coward--how to at least have the courage to voice your beliefs without hiding behind a false name.

“I’m always up for some mayhem,” Adeline answered. “Especially when the people we’re pranking have really done something to deserve it.”

“Well, Addy, I know I am gonna do something. I wanna know who wrote this. And if they don't tell who they are, I'll let people know who I am, Addy."

The Gryffindor smiled at her friend, though some probably would have mistaken her facial expression for a smirk. A surge of new energy was running through her, fed by the exciting idea of playing the detective, discovering the identity (or identities) of T. Ruth, and causing them a great deal of chaos. “Well, what are we waiting for? Let’s tell the rest of BOOM and start planning,” she finished, no longer interested in the plate of breakfast sitting before her.

Abigail was sitting at the Gryffindor table. Among the row of hungry students, she seemed to be the only one who didn't really want to eat. She circled the fork that stabbed a juicy chicken cutlet, but the appetite for the delicious food never came.

She was worried about something, something, that she couldn't understand, she looked to the sides, there were many students devouring the plate and the chicken legs. Bananas, cakes, but the desire to eat never came.

She felt a little lonely, many of the other students seemed satisfied, with the school, with the food, with friends, with everything. But Abigail looked slightly bored, that was visible in her eyes.

The smell of the food wasn't enough to show her appetite, in fact, his mind wandered about his recent adventures at Hogwarts, about the friends he'd gained, but literally no enemies.

She thought about what classes at Hogwarts would be like, since for her, it hadn't started yet.

"Why can't I eat? I just keep thinking about the chores I have to do." She thought as she took a small bite of chicken cutlet. It was very strange to think that her brothers were almost graduating, and she still barely got used to Hogwarts. Will she ever get used to it?

She could barely finish her plate, it was bad. But she waited until the appetite came, even though she didn't like to force herself to eat.

Autumn couldn't eat her breakfast peacefully, because of course she couldn't. She'd learned that a hidden world full of magic existed two years ago, and was attending her third year at a school where she was learning to cast actual, real-life magic. A hundred owls breaking into the great hall, effectively ruining her meal didn't actually daunt her nearly as much as it probably should have.

She thought about if the letters she sent to her Muggle friends were actually as honest as she made them at out. 'Dove, Cahira, today at school almost a hundred owls broke into the great hall of my magic school all holding a bunch of letters. Did you know that owls are some of nature's slowest birds? It's kind of weird actually, because they used an owl to deliver me my acceptance letter to the school I go to, where I learn real magic. Owls can't even lock their wings and fall asleep while gliding like some birds can do. The owl mailing system of this genuine fantasy world is very unethical. Anyway...

The very thought of it made her chuckle. But about those letters... She grabbed one out of the grips of one of the owls, curious. She read the title out loud in a low mutter. "T. Ruthless - an article on why believing T. Ruth is wrong". She sighed. Good. Someone had to say something about the whole T. Ruth thing. Obviously about the stupid fake name, but mainly about the magic racism. It made her disappointed in whatever asinine fraction of the student body actually agreed with the non-human hater.

No, Autumn was only disappointed in herself for thinking that maybe the wizards with a larger understanding of how the world around them worked, and who had more important things, like magic, to think about rather than racial superiority wouldn't still have racism. Was this sort of discrimination simply inherent to all of humanity? What was it fuelled by? A belief that they were entitled to more things than others, that they were better, and needing to justify that belief to themselves by attaching the superiority to their ethnic group instead of facing their own superiority complexes and elitist principles?

Yeah, Autumn was just disappointed at herself, not them. No, at them she wasn't disappointed. She was mad. She was angry. She was kind of ready to punch the nearest semi-hard surface.

Articles like this helped. Spreading information helped. She was going to help.

A low sigh escaped Evelynn's lips. For a Thursday morning, a day of classes like any other, the Great Hall sure exploded in commotion. One minute, she had been minding her own business, casually spreading marmalaide on her toast and refreshing her memory on the topic they were to be covering in their potions double class later that day, her text propped up against her bag; and the next, a hundred owls showered papers down upon them all. She had to dive a hand to pull more than a couple of those pamphlets from the jug of orange juice and the boat of syrup. Even if she hadn't been curious about what the fuss was about, she would have caught the title of the independent article: T. Ruthless.

This again, really? It never failed to peak her amazement just how readily the student body had flocked to that set of articles. And more than a few had spoken out against it all. First, the counter-article written after the dhampir publication; then the vadilization of the Headliner office and the associated newspaper pyre display in the Great Hall; then the later articles commenting on that which had been said; now this.

In a way, it was good. A furtive smile tugged at her lips just as it had after the Great Hall fiasco to know just how many students in the school were willing to speak openly against those that would shame or prosecute another on the basis of blood. She would be among the first to denounce any who would be so shallow as to judge someone for a characteristic over which they had no control. Blood purity, racial leaning, political standing... what did any of that matter as long as someone was a competent and willing participant of society? People should be judged on the merit of their actions, the integrity of their intent, and the weight of their accomplishments.

It was one of the things she had been most concerned about when coming to this school: being a "muggle". And it had been a worry that was swiftly swept aside as the great majority of the population seemed to care not for those who maintained ties to notions of blood purity. This was of a similar train of thought; and she, for one, was glad to know that students—all students—could find a place of belonging within the walls of this castle.

And yet, there was no denying the fatigue and frustration that descended with every outcry. Lips crimping, one brow lofting, she reclined slightly in her chair to allow her gaze to peruse the contentious article a second time. There was no denying it. Whoever had written this piece was just another sheep at the slaughter, someone who had clearly missed the point. Evelynn was beginning to think that common sense really wasn't all that common. Granted, she knew she wasn't the only one to have recognized the actual message of the original T. Ruth articles. The latest Headliner issue had made that clear, and every now and again, she would catch the rebuttals uttered by her peers to those who rose quickly to shoot down T. Ruth as racist.

In actual truth, while the original dhampir article had been somewhat sensational in a negative way, there had been a clear message in its print. That same message had been repeated in the following article on half-giants: there were those among their number who would seek to do them harm, and they weren't necessarily students. There had been at least three dhampir attacks since she had started at the school, and at least three incidents involving raging half-giants. All of which had ended up with students in the hospital wing.

The fact was, as much as people seemed to prefer not to highlight what made them different from each other, they were different. Dhampir were faster, stronger, and could tear your neck out with a bite. Half-giants were resistant to magic, physically superior, and could snap a child in half on a whim. They were, objectively, superior to humans. If ever there was a situation where someone found themselves prey to one such as they who would seek to do them harm—such as the half-giants from SCAR who had infiltrated the masquerade that one year—there was little that could be done. Unless you knew what weaknesses to exploit to be able to protect yourself and secure escape.

Nevermind.

It was a waste of energy dwelling on the ineptitudes of others. Evelynn was coming to realize that Hogwarts, unlike any other school she had known, really was preparing its students for survival in the real world. There was little that could be done to rectify the skewed perceptions of her peers. If they wished to remain misguided and concoct misplaced impressions, they would continue to do so regardless of anyone attempting to correct them. Those who saw the articles clearly for their use would heed their value.

Still... she could not deny the annoyance. Every defiant student was one more that would require protection. One more whose brash recklessness and ignorance of tactic would mean they were more a danger to themselves and their peers than they would be help when the time was needed. Sheep to the slaughter, and it surely wasn't Evelynn who would be laughing. The only truthless rubbish about this entire debacle was this article, and every other one like it.

Folding the article precisely, she stowed it into the journal within her bag and returned her attention to her breakfast.
