Dust and Daydreams  private   solo   Reopened
-Private Solo-
Date: Saturday, August
Time: Morning
The sound of wizards and witches chattering and bustling around on a fine Saturday morning was pleasant music to Felix’s ears. Hands tucked into his pockets, he was walking alongside his mother as he stared around, eyes wide in curiosity.

“Felix!”

He felt a sharp tug on his sweater as his aunt pulled him aside, pointing at a particular shop not very far from them.

“I think that may be it.”

He followed his aunt's gaze, eyes lighting up in anticipation as he made a start towards it. This was the thing he had been waiting most for. Getting his wand.

Being a muggle born child, Felix was very new to the wizarding world. Even the most normal things in the wizarding world came as a surprise to him. Today was the first time he would have had any personal experience with the magical world. Felix wished he had more eyes, it was slightly overwhelming, the shops, the people, the interesting (but certainly out of the ordinary) objects. Things that moved by themselves, talked by themselves, it was all very new to Felix.

He heard his aunt call behind him,

"Il wait for you outside darling!"

He took a step forward and pushed the door open.

At once the fresh smell of wood invaded his sense of smell. He blinked and cast his gaze around the store, staying stock still in the spot he was standing in. There was nobody there. Was he at the wrong place? Frowning slightly, he turned to walk back out of the store, dying to rid his nose of the musty smell.

“Don't go anywhere yet. Wouldn't want you to go off to Hogwarts without a wand now would we?”

Before he could even brush his hand upon the handle of the door, a voice spoke out of the shadows, misty yet clear, and Felix spun around, half surprised, half relieved that he had indeed come to the right place. His smile was pleasant, and yet Felix visage was still composed in a slightly confused frown. It was only after a second or two that he started forward to the till, his gaze still fixed on the curious man.

“What is your name, young man?”

“Jeong. Felix Jeong.”

The guy seemed nice enough.

“Where are you from?”

Oh, here came the interrogation. Felix didn't feel like having a chatty conversation with someone he had just met, so he narrowed his eyes slightly and leant back, giving the vaguest answer possible. Felix stared back at the shopkeeper and gave a quick nod.

“Here and there”

“What do you do?”

Not again.

He narrowed his eyes even more before continuing, “This and that”

“You ever-?”

“Now and then”

“Boy aren't you just full of information”

The shopkeeper smiled and chucked a litte, throwing his head back in amusement. Felix sat there with a stoic expression, wondering what he was laughing about.

“Well, we'd better get your wand then”

Felix watched the man walk to the back of the shop and heard him shuffle around. Wondering what he was up to, the young boy stood up slightly and craned his neck in an effort to spy unto what the man was doing. The shopkeeper came back with a couple of thin boxes, and for the first time since he had entered the shop, Felix felt himself flourish with excitement. He stood up straight and leaned an inch closer, admiring the patterns on the thin delicate boxes.

“How do I know which one is mine?”

A direct and simple question. He expected a direct and simple answer. He stared the shopkeeper down and spoke confidently, however, the man just gave a small smile and said,

“Ah, impatience isn't always the answer young man, I'm afraid, well it's the wand that chooses the wizard. It wouldn't work properly any other way.”

Felix eyed him with curiosity and took the first wand from the box the man was holding out to him. He then stared blankly at it, expecting a reaction from the carved piece of wood. However, when nothing happened, he had the idea of swishing it through the air, as though he were brandishing a sword.

Before he could even flick his wrist however, the shopkeeper reached forward and whisked the wand from his grasp, muttering to himself words Felix couldn't quite hear. Before he could blink, the man was back again, with a different box this time. Without hesitation Felix reached for the wand and jabbed it foolishly in the air at random. He half expected nothing to happen again and so was quite shook when the sparks emitted from the wand he was holding blew apart the shelf behind the poor old man, along with sending a vase crashing to the floor and spilling water and wilting petals everywhere. Felix, eyes wide, sheepishly placed the wand back on the till and gazed at the man again without an apology. How had he known that would happen? He half expected the man to yell at him, however the shopkeeper had merely flinched, and when he turned his gaze back to Felix it was with a misty smile that was quite hard to read.

“That was something. You definitely have a lot of power in you son.”

Before Felix could even think about answering,. The man placed another box in front of him and pushed it forward.

“Merlin if this isn't the one.”

The young boy took off the lid and plucked the wand from its rest in the box. It was beautifully carved, decorative markings running up and down the length of it, giving it an admirable, rather elegant, look. Felix found himself sincerely hoping that this was the one. Almost as soon as he had taken the wand from its place, a pleasant tingle of warmth was spreading to the tips of his fingers. He felt in control, unlike the other two wands he had previously tried.

It seemed like one of those fairytales he had often been told when he was younger. The one with goldilocks and the three bears. Too much, Too little and just right. Well this one was just right. Felix found himself holding on to it much longer than he had the other two, for the shopkeeper did not attempt to pluck it from his grasp this time round. It seemed as though he felt just like Felix, content with the one he had chosen; or rather, that had chosen him.

“Now wouldn't it be nice if that handsome face of yours smiled more often, eh?”

Felix looked up, pausing his thoughts, not realising that his expression had turned to one of content joy as he had been holding the wand in his hand. He immediately wiped the small smile off his face and paused, before putting the wand back in its box and pulling it toward him.

“Can I have this one then?”

“Use it wisely. A smart, handsome young man like you wouldn't want a smart, handsome wand like yours snapped in half now would we? 24’7 cm, mayhaw wood and phoenix feather. Inflexible, but extremely powerful. Very, very selective of the wizard it chooses.”

Felix opened his mouth to speak, then closed it again. He opted to stare at the box, now containing his wand, intrigued. The shopkeeper leaned forward and spoke;

“You look like you have brilliant brains. Use them wisely, but more importantly”
-he tapped the lid of the box with his right hand- “ Use this wisely.”

Felix arched a curious brown before paying the man and exiting the shop. Snapped in half? What on earth did he mean? His aunt was waiting for him outside with a curious smile on her face.

“You were in there quite a while darling, did you choose a good one?”

Felix gave a glance back at the box, running his finger up and down the edging deep in thought. He wasn't quite used to the wizarding world yet, being muggle born did come with its struggles.

“You could say that, though I'd say more like it chose me.”
