Letters to Mum Solo Closed

Dear Mother,
I arrived safely at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and so far I am loving every second of it. I know you said not to have too much fun and remember that I'm here to learn but it's just so difficult when you're in a place as wondrous as this. Everything from the Great Lake to the portraits and the ceiling of the Great Hall and the grounds - it's all so magical! I'm finally getting to discover the magical side of myself and I really feel it will do me good mother.
So far I haven't made too many friends but that's not unusual for me. Hopefully once my lessons start I'll make some. I've tried talking to a few people but you know what I'm like, too awkward for my own good.

The Sorting Ceremony was one of the most nerve-wracking experiences of my life. Remember when I had to do that ballet recital and I ran off stage because I was too afraid to perform? Well, it felt just like that. But I didn't run, I sat and had the hat placed on my head like everyone else and...I was sorted into Ravenclaw!
Speaking of that, the hat said something to me about you, mother. I know when I've asked you've not really wanted to tell me much about your time at Hogwarts but the hat said that you were a Slytherin? Why would you not tell me mother? I hope I haven't disappointed you by being sorted into Ravenclaw but I really think it's the house for me. It's full of bright, friendly, curious people that I could really see myself getting along with.

Sorry there's not too much to tell you yet, mother. Once my lessons begin I'm sure I'll have plenty to tell you. Hope you're doing well and not working too hard. I know you're very busy but write back if you can?

  Love and kisses,
                              Cassie
Folding the letter neatly and sealing it with a short piece of string she had found, Cassie sighed. She hoped the letter would suffice in letting her mother know she was okay.

Maybe her mother wouldn't even read it. She was always so busy with work these days but Cassie figured it was better to try than to not contact her at all.

Besides, seeing all the other students get so excited to tell their parents all about their new school made her ache to feel the same. She would see them laid in the common room writing page after page after page to send off to their families and couldn't help but wonder what it would be like to have someone be so interested in you that they would take the time to read all of that.

"She might reply..." Cassie mumbled to herself, passing the letter between her hands nervously.

Nearby a large snowy owl hopped into her view, creeping closer. It seemed friendly enough and was clearly interested in Cassie.  The beautiful white feathers caught Cassie's eye and with a small smile, she held out the letter cautiously.
The bird held out it's leg and Cassie tied the letter securely to it.

"Thank you." Cassie said quietly, standing back slightly.

The owl chirped happily back at her before spreading it's wings wide and disappearing through the Owlery window and off into the distance.
