A Familiar Feeling Pet Finished

It was time. Tyranni had grown up around animals, both magical and mundane. They served a wonderful purpose for muggles and wizardfolk alike, namely a sense of companionship and love that far supersedes that of another being. Blind faith and loyalty to their owner did many a pet have, so unlike many so called "friends or family." Betrayal, infidelity, lies that build until they break the tiny fragment of trust left between two individuals. Yes, animals were incapable of such deceit. Indeed it was time for an animal companion. A familiar. Every witch deserved one. Her very own fylgja.

Dressed for the crisp fall weather this October morning in black jeans, Doc Martens, and a charcoal and white sweater, she entered the shop, Magical Menagerie. Rather mundane looking creatures for a shop that claims to be magical. The thought only had a moment to pass through before the energy changed. Yes, her familiar was here. There was no doubt remaining despite a hesitancy she may have felt prior to coming to Diagon Alley.

Clear your mind Tyranni. Breathe. Let the gods guide your thoughts. They will show you the way. Her mothers advice echoed through her as phantom thoughts. Reminders of the lessons she had underwent once her abilities made an appearance. "Trust the gods," she whispered to no one as she looked at the grounds. After a moment of pause, facing forward, she took her first steps around the shop. Owls in cages lined one wall, regal in their beauty. She took time with each bird, studying its features and attempting to read the energy around. She locked eyes with a large Great Horned owl. A small spark of excitement passed through her. Could this be him? She began to reach out her hand towards the bird only to have the bird hiss at her. Can birds even hiss? Perhaps it didn't hiss, but the breathy sound that emanated from its open beak was all she needed to continue onwards.

Continuing her way around the store, the rats came next. "Perhaps one of you little cuties. Then Pin-pin would have a playmate." That would certainly make her friend Andy @Andrew Vance excited. For once his rat would be chased as a friend rather than as prey. Odin knows that poor critter certainly had a few close encounters with Aurelia's bird. Alas, a rat was not to be her new familiar, as each one hid away as she approached, too timid to be considered worthy.

She was quickly running out of options. Glancing around the store, she could see a fine selection of cats to the right of her on the other side of the store, toads and frogs to the left of where she stood, but there hidden in the corner was something that caught her eye. It was a sign that read reptiles and other creepy critters. Go to them girl. Her breath caught. That voice again. Her mother informed her that she might acquire spirit guides, but could that be the source of this voice? Perhaps it was her namesake guiding her towards her familiar. As she proceeded towards the corner, the small hairs on her body stood on end as if filled with electricity. There was array of lizards and spiders, all basking in the heat of their terrariums. "Maybe I should get a bearded dragon since I know how to care for them?" She did miss her beardie at home immensely. "So small. One day you shall be fierce dragons," she spoke, praising the small babies. Such an important decision was being made. It was worth taking the time to examine each animal. Squatting down to look inside the terrarium of one of the spiders, she knew. Her two eyes locked with the eight of those behind the glass. "Hello beautiful. What are you thinking about?" Reaching out the girl placed one finger on the glass. Suddenly the spider raised one of its legs and touched the glass on the opposite side of Tyranni's finger. "Do you want to come home with me?" She took a moment more to glance at the small animal, stood up and went to find the shopkeeper.

Rounding the corner only a short distance away stood an older man, tall and broad, with small glasses upon his face and a flannel shirt. "Excuse me sir. Are you the shopkeeper?" She had to look up quite high just to look him in the eyes, as the girl was still fairly short.
"Indeed I am. How may I help you Miss....?"
"Tyranni."
"Ah, Miss Tyranni. Thank you."
"I was hoping to purchase a pet today. I wasn't sure what I was looking for when I came, but I think I have found the animal I want to take home. She's over here." The girl started walking away in excitement, hoping the man would follow. Arriving back at the spiders tank, she again squatted down, staring at the animal. In her periphery she could see the shopkeepers foot stop and stand next to her. "Excellent choice Miss Tyranni. European Hairy Trappers make excellent pets. They are very loyal to their owners, though perhaps not the most affectionate pet. She is venomous, but you shouldn't worry as her venom can do nothing to you. She has been here for a few weeks waiting for you. Everyone has seemed to pass her by. I will get all the supplies you will need to take her home gathered and meet you at the front with her."

As the shopkeeper gathered up her new pet and the other things she would need, she quickly wandered the remainder of the store, ending at the register. "Everything should be ready for you to purchase and take home. Might I ask what you are naming her?" She took a moment to think of the right name. "Kiaransalee. I think I will name her Kiaransalee." With a smile, the two exchanged their goods. Spider in hand, Tyranni thanked the man and began her trip back to Hogwarts.
