The Adventure Begins Solo Finished

Today was the day, Adelaide Barlowe was finally getting to attend Hogwarts. She had awoken as the first rays of light spilled through her bedroom window, mostly because she wasn't able to get that much sleep with the amount of excitement fizzing around in her stomach. Adelaide devoured her breakfast in record time and was dressed, sitting in the living room with her trunk ready before her older sister had even woken up. She supposed the excitement to go to Hogwarts diminished as you grew older considering there wouldn't be any excitement of seeing the castle or riding the Hogwarts Express for the first time. That wasn't Adelaide's problem though, it was her first year and she couldn't be more excited if she tried!

When everyone was finally ready and they had left for King's Cross Station, her excitement grew tenfold. She never got to see much of the muggle world, so to be able to go to King's Cross and see the muggles oblivious to the wizarding world all around them was really quite intriguing. Adelaide couldn't possibly fathom living without magic, it seemed too much of a hassle without having any spells to make things quick and simple. "Do you think muggles have things to make life easier? Like the way we see mother use spells around the house?" She asked her older sister, Eloise, in a whisper as they walked towards the wall to get to Platform 9 3/4.

Eloise glanced at her out of the corner of her eye, "Of course they do, genius," She snorted as if Adelaide had just asked the stupidest question in the history of questions, "See that man over there?" She pointed towards a man standing with a briefcase, looking at something in his hand that Adelaide didn't recognize. It looked like a block, so she didn't quite understand what was so interesting about it. "That's called a phone, apparently it does lots of cool things."

Adelaide regarded her sister suspiciously, "How do you know that?" The girl didn't trust a word that came out of her sister's mouth, especially after that one time she tricked Adelaide into eating a rotten egg flavored Bertie Botts' because she claimed it was 'lemon'. Adelaide didn't even know how she managed to fall for that, but it was certainly an unpleasant experience.

Eloise shrugged nonchalantly, "My friend told me, she's a muggle-born so she was able to tell me loads of things that muggles have instead of magic." She explained simply, but then she decided it would be a good idea to say, "I don't suppose you'll have many friends though."

Adelaide narrowed her eyes, "Oh yeah? Well, at least I don't need to bribe my friends to talk to me because I'm just so insufferable and unbearable that no one can even stand to be within a 50 foot radius of me for longer than 5 minutes." She retorted. Eloise stared daggers at her and was about to open her mouth to offer a response before their mother stepped in, "Girls, please don't rip each other's heads off before you've even made it onto the train. If I get even one owl this year saying you two have argued or whatever you both manage to do, I will send you both a howler and have you deal with the embarrassment of everyone hearing. Just, please try and at least act civil towards each other."

Their father laughed and put an arm around his wife's waist comfortingly, "Listen to your mother. You already give both of us enough headaches to last a lifetime at home, don't do that to the poor professors." He said teasingly, winking at the two girls. Fine, Adelaide could act civil towards her sister. And by civil, she means staying as far away from her sister as possible. Hopefully she wasn't in Gryffindor so she didn't have to deal with seeing Eloise in the common room every day. That would be disastrous for everyone involved.

"Now let's hurry and get onto the platform or else you'll miss the train." With a wave of his hand, he ushered them to go through the wall to the platform. Adelaide didn't even register that they were already at the wall as she was so busy talking to Eloise. She watched as her sister and father ran through the wall first, seemingly disappearing from thin air only to reappear on the other side. She felt a comforting hand on her shoulder and looked up to see her mother smiling down at her, "Ready?" Adelaide nodded enthusiastically, gripping onto the handle of her trunk tightly, her and her mother raced through to the platform. When they reappeared on the other side, she was absolutely amazed, the train surpassed any and all expectations she had. It was simply magical, and no amount of verbal descriptions could compare to standing in front of the real thing.

"Beautiful, isn't it?" Her mother sighed dreamily, as if she was reminiscing on the times she herself had been on the train. "How I wish I could go back to the castle one day, it was the best years of my life. Except the years you and your sister were born, of course." She laughed before planting a kiss on Adelaide's head. "You be good, okay? And have fun, you'll love it, trust me. Don't worry about what house you get into, alright? We'll love you no matter what. Although, I may be biased, but Ravenclaw is currently the best." Her mother winked at her and Adelaide giggled. Eloise had already run off to find her friends and Adelaide was glad, she didn't know if she could handle being in her company for much longer.

Her father gave Adelaide a quick hug before saying, "Now you be good, don't be getting into any trouble early in the year. But most importantly have fun, Hogwarts is amazing and you'll love it. Maybe you'll take after your father and be in Slytherin! We'll miss you, so be sure to write to us as frequently as possible, okay?" Adelaide nodded, reassuring both of her parents that she'll write to them as often as she can. Giving a final hug and goodbye to her parents, she stepped onto the train, ready to begin her first ever year at Hogwarts.
