Adeline had every detail of her dormitory room memorized. After all, she had been staring at it for hours as she laid there, silently praying that sleep would overtake her. But at this point, she had a sneaking suspicion that it would never come. With a heavy sigh, she pushed herself up into a sitting position. She knew what the problem was. It was the awful, smothering silence that filled the room every night; the nonexistent sounds of her dormmates happily dreaming away. Addie hated the quiet, and she hated being still for too long. Unfortunately, both of those were expected at bedtime, which is why it was her least favorite time of day.
Well, if she was going to be awake anyway, she might as well do something with this time instead of sitting there, wishing she was somewhere else. Tossing the covers aside, Addie swung her feet over the edge of the bed and began lacing up her tennis shoes. She threw her robe on over her oversized t-shirt and flannel pajama pants, grabbed her wand, and headed out, the wooden door creaking loudly behind her as she left the room.
No one was supposed to be awake at this hour, so Adeline wasn’t too concerned about running into anyone as she made her way out of the common room. She would still try to keep quiet, of course, but it was a large castle, and the odds of two people happening to run into each other seemed slim.
Addie was disappointed to say that in over a year of being at Hogwarts, there were still loads of rooms and corridors that she had left unexplored. But lessons and homework and an unexpected new group of friends (or accomplices, more like) had consumed most of her time, leaving very little for her own personal endeavors. Perhaps that was part of what had been keeping her awake as well. She hadn’t felt like herself lately. She had allowed herself to be bogged down by the seriousness and monotony of student life, and most of the tricks she had played had been part of a group effort, which was still a new experience for her. So, as she trotted down the corridor, she savored every moment, and wondered what adventures may be in store for her tonight.

Lizzy got up out of her bed, and walked into the Gryffindor Common Room. She was having trouble sleeping, she hadn't been able to get a good night's sleep since she had come a little over a week ago. She had no idea what time it was exactly but she knew it was very late at night. No one was supposed to be out of their dormitory at this time, and Lizzy wasn't usually one for breaking the rules. That is she wasn't one for breaking the rules unless she disagreed with them or thought them pointless. Curfew, she felt, was a pointless rule. Why couldn't they be in the common room at least?
The fire in the common room was still burning bright, warming the place just the right amount. Still, she shivered getting the feeling she was being watched. In all honesty, she probably was being watched. There were ghosts, moving portraits, and spells that could be the source of the eyes she felt on her.
Lizzy sighed, she would never get back to sleep now. There wasn't enough light to read by, and she doubted she could focus anyways. As she was thinking a rush of impulse grabbed her. No one was allowed to be out of their dormitories right now. That meant there was no one to run into if she left. Since coming she had only gone a few select places, wary of becoming lost in the huge castle. If she got lost, she might not find her way back for hours. Oh well, she'd take her chances, she was so anxious she felt she might go insane.
She opened the portrait hole and crept out, ignoring the Fat Lady's cries of "Come back here! You're not supposed to be out!" Lizzy walked silently until she realized she was hopelessly lost. Then, she heard a sound from behind her. What if it was a professor? Could she be in trouble in her first week? This was not how she pictured her moonlit walk to go.

It didn’t take long for Addie to come to a crossroads. Here lay the important decision: left, right, or continue on? It wasn’t difficult to rule out continuing forward; that was the way she always went to get to the rest of the castle. Left or right? Adeline had a vague memory of turning right at this intersection some time at the beginning of her first year, when she had no clue how to navigate the castle and easily became lost. That settled it, the left was the only unexplored route.
As she meandered, turning corner after corner, the corridors Addie found herself in grew dark, the low light of the torches hardly even reaching the center of the hallway.
“Lumos,” she whispered to her wand. A small feeling of pride and excitement welled up in her chest. Using magic still held a certain joy for her, even after over a year of schooling, and using magic when she wasn’t particularly supposed to made it all the more enjoyable. As the tip of her wand lit, illuminating her surroundings, Addie jumped back a step in surprise. There was another person in the corridor with her.
“Who are you?” she asked a bit rudely, startled by the sudden conclusion of her solo adventure. She looked the girl up and down for a moment, recognizing her as someone from her own house. Though, if Adeline’s memory was correct, she was a year younger.
“You’re not supposed to be out here, you know that right?” A small smirk crossed Addie’s face. “You could get in trouble...or worse…” she finished ominously, wondering if this firstie was one of the ones who was scared easily. After all, the whole point of leaving the common room had been to entertain herself, right?

It was thankfully not a professor Lizzy had crossed paths with, it was only another student. Lizzy recognized her as being another Gryffindor, though older than Lizzy herself. She briefly wondered if the girl would turn her in to a professor, though surely she wasn't supposed to be out of the common room either? Still, before knowing what this girl was like, Lizzy figured she had better be careful just in case.
"I'm Lizzy, Lizzy Solace. Who are you?" Lizzy asked cautiously. She didn't want to give this girl any reason whatsoever to turn her in. That was all Lizzy needed. To get in trouble in her first week at school. Surely that was some kind of record! Although, if she remembered right, there were a couple of students mentioned in Hogwarts, A History who were quite the pair of troublemakers.
"I know I could get in trouble, it's just I couldn't sleep. I figured if it were banned, no one would be out, or at least the chances of me actually running into someone would be very slim," Lizzy explained hurriedly. She was increasingly becoming more and more worried. What if someone else walked by and caught them both? If she had crossed paths with this girl, who was to say she wouldn't run into someone else that was willing to turn her in?
"Hold on, if it's banned and all, what are you doing out here?" Lizzy asked suspiciously. Why indeed was that girl reprimanding her if she wasn't supposed to be out either? Something was odd here. Lizzy hoped her question might throw the girl off and she could return to her common room without trouble.
