Fyodor was born on August 27, named with the patronymic Adrikovich after his father, Adrik. Fyodor means 'God's gift'.
Born to Adrik Sapozhnik and Ekaterina Popov in 2010, Fedya was born in Chekalin, Russia, though the two of them considered themselves to be travelers. Travelling was impressed on Fedya from a young age. Every place he considered home would one day be different, and he knew that he would be moved to a new place practically within the hour. This taught him to always think on his feet, assume the worst whenever possible. Though he couldn't quite recall every location his family had relocated to, one would stick out to him; Irkutsk. Home of a flourishing Jewish community, Adrik and Ekaterina, both Ashkenazi Jewish, thought it important to take their young son (then five years old) to see the great synagogue of Irkutsk. Fedya is trilingual, speaking Yiddish, English, and Russian.
Thinking it best to settle down, the triad eventually settled in the small industrial town of Sverdlovsk Oblast, Siberia, Russia. A tight-knit community, they didn't quite fit in. They lived off of next to nothing, poor wages from Adrik's industry job. Ekaterina dedicated herself to staying home and taking care of Fyodor and his newborn sister, Oksana, born in 2017.
Oh, how Fedya loved Oksana. Every moment he wasn't at his маглы (Muggle) school he was with her, showing her toys he made himself. A jar filled with uncooked lentils for a rattle, a stick with yarn tied to the end to dangle above her head.
Despite their financial standing and the rundown house, the family of four was happy in Sverdlovsk Oblast. That is, until the incident.
They were not a magical family at all. In fact, Fyodor's parents were quite old-fashioned when it came to talking of magic and witches. Surely, any accusation made against their family or children would ruin them, bring shame upon them. Despite this, though, Fedya would display trace indicators of magic. Standing still with snow surrounding him, the cold material would melt away beneath his feet. Ball's lost on the roof of their small house, on the outskirts of town, would miraculously roll off, even after being determined by Adrik to be stuck in the gutters.
In December of 2019, Fedya would make the mistake of his life. He had been playing with neighborhood children, making snow angels and snowmen, and having snowball fights. Regular childlike behavior. If asked to recall it, Fedya would credit it as happening outside the local Catholic church, right in the courtyard. He had never been inside.
Fedya balled up a snowball, ready to throw. The snowball flew from his hands in his excitement and hit another child flat in the nose. Initially, it was assumed that it was an accident and he'd thrown the snowball, but once snowballs began pelting the other children, the truth was out. Fedya was found out.
Disgraced and being accused of witchcraft by the маглы, the family fled their home once more. Fyodor was nine. The minds of the маглы were wiped following the incident by higher-ups in the Russian wizarding community.
There was an apparent silver lining, though, and Fedya was enrolled and sent to Koldovstoretz by way of portkey before they had to go through the process of relocating the entire family. Fedya moved through the required groups rather quickly, always having been a fast and rather skilled learner. He moved up to group four quickly.
Currently, his family resides in Perm. He writes them frequently, and his father seems to do most of the replying. Ekaterina scarcely writes and when she does, it's to tell him that he's sick and needs healing.
One day, Fyodor hopes to reconnect with his family and be as close as they once were. For now, though, he figures that surviving school is of the essence. |
