Afternoon Stroll
»-----------------------------------------♡------------------------------------------«Valerie loved afternoon walks. Everything about them just seemed so peaceful. There was nothing better than finishing a long day of homework and school then walking around the courtyard watching the sunset. It seemed way less crowded, too. Everyone seemed to be doing homework or hanging out in their common rooms. But Valerie found her common room much too loud. She discovered that Gryffindors were very energetic, and although she appreciated her house's neverending enthusiasm, it got a bit tiring.
The courtyard was a nice break. The only sounds were the chirping of birds and the occasional voice in the distance. She sighed. The only thing people seemed to be talking about was the Fall Ball. It didn't really interest Valerie, to be honest. She'd much rather sit in her room and read a book, like every other day. But for some reason, everyone was getting all riled up about dates and other things like that. Maybe it was an older kid thing, since the most enthusiastic ones seemed to be second and third years. Valerie had to admit, meeting all the other students from the other magical schools did sound pretty cool. She didn't really get the date part though.
She groaned, looking down at the ground. She'd just have to put up with everybody's gossip for a month. No matter. She'd find a way. Her eyes shifted to a rock on the ground, which appeared to have broken off from the main pavement. She kicked along with her, keeping her gaze on the rock. She went for quite a bit, before suddenly crashing into someone. Valerie was knocked to the ground but luckily didn't hit it too hard. She lifted herself up, rubbing her head.
"Oh god! I'm so sorry!" She said, turning to the other person. "I was being stupid, I should've been watching-" she scolded herself.WC: 310 Words

It was October 2. Earlier on a different day, Rachel woke up to a sight and noise of flyers and gossips about the ball. The fall ball exactly. So Rachel wasn't really thrilled. Because one, she didn't have any one to go to the ball with and don't want to go there alone and two, what? Rachel in her years of existence has never attended a ball nor even heard of it! Okay maybe that was a little exaggerated but she does however, never attended that occasion. Unless you count her super fancy best friends birthday party that is almost like a ball. But thats beside the point.
Now on the present day, going out of her dorm, all she could hear about are buzzing news and gossip about it, maybe even add boys and dates. She herself, has never thought about all those lovey dovey stuff and all. Sure she sometimes find boys cute but she has never thought of dating them. But maybe in the future. You may never know.
Good thing the weather was nice since it was a sunny day. Going out for a walk, some voices could be heard in the distance and some chirping of the birds. Enjoying the breeze outside, she closed her eyes while walking, letting her feet guide her wherever. Probably wasn't the best idea though because she then bumped into someone. Rachel didn't fell but she was a little disgruntled now. Hearing a girls voice apologize, she looked at the person.
"Oh no no no, its fine! I'm the one to blame here honestly, sorry about that! Are you alright?" Rachel said going a little bit close to the girl to examine her for any kind of wound.

They were a bit scraped but nothing too bad. She turned to her knee, which had a small gash on it. She winced. It was fine. She usually healed quick from injuries anyways.
"How about you? Are you alright? Sorry again, I was being stupid," she bit her lip. If only she hadn't been so distracted. She was usually more observant but something just seemed off today. That darn rock, distracting her. "I've been a bit distracted lately, sorry about that."
She looked up, finally meeting the other girl's eyes. She looked around her age, so Valerie assumed she was a first year like her. She sighed in relief. When she messed up around older students they usually looked pretty pissed, but younger students didn't, since they probably were just as clumsy as she was. Unless this girl was really mean, but she didn't seem like it. She didn't sound mad, and her face looked genuinely apologetic. At least from what Valerie could tell, and to be fair, she was pretty good at reading others.
She rubbed her palms, trying to get the dirt off. Yeah, they weren't that badly hurt."I'm Valerie, by the way," she introduced herself, offering her hand to the other girl. She hoped it would lighten the mood. Besides, she didn't want to seem rude to her, bumping into her then suddenly running away. She cared deeply for first impressions, and she was hoping not to make any enemies at Hogwarts. Well, at least, not this year. "First year, Gryffindor," she smiled. "I'm afraid we got off on the wrong foot. So, er, sorry for bumping into you. Who might you be?"WC: 287 Words

Meeting the girls eyes, Rachel was still doubtful that the other was alright. The fall looked and sounded quite painful. Still a little bit worried, she responded. "I'm fine, just a little knocked out. Do you need accompany to the hospital wing?" She couldn't help it. If she doesn't offer any kind of help to the person that she might have possibly injured, then she would feel guilty all day and would not stop thinking about it.
But Rachel doesn't want to seem over dramatic. "And yeah, I get you. I guess this month made me too preoccupied. Add homeworks and the ball as well. Its gonna be disastrous for me!" She smiled. Truth be told, all she wants is some peace and quiet, maybe a book, a little bit of homework, and a movie marathon. Rachel usually is a very extroverted type of girl, when she's in the mood. Talkative here, loud there, it's a miracle her friends aren't sick of her yet.
But when she's in a bad mood, she's very quiet, cold, and unfriendly. She's most likely that whenever conversing with someone mean, or someone who thinks very highly of themselves. But luckily, those are rare moments. Hearing the other girls name, and her house, Rachel was bewildered. How come she has never met her before? They are literally in the same house, and dorm.
Tilting her head slightly to the side, a force of habit, she analyzed Valerie. The girl was a little bit familiar but Rachel still is pretty sure that both of them haven't met before. Catching herself, Rachel was embarrassed while shaking her head slightly. "Sorry 'bout that. Was thinking for a moment. I'm Rachel! First year Gryffindor as well. Nice to meet you!" She said while taking Valeries outstretched hand and shaking it.

Trust me, I've been through worse. These should heal in a couple of days," she smiled. "Thank you for the offer though." Growing up, Valerie learned to deal with her injuries herself. Her parents were always too busy and her siblings were usually the ones giving her those injuries, so got used to just 'sucking it up.'
Valerie leaned in closer. "Really? What a coincidence, me too. All the stress is going to blow my brain up," she laughed. "I just wanna lock myself up in my room all day, you know? That's why I came out here. It's a nice break from all the stress and chit-chat about the ball," she looked out, away towards the horizon. "It's so much more peaceful. Plus nobody really goes out here so that's a break from all the gossip and rumors." Valerie really didn't mind them at first, but after a while, they got a tad bit tiring. She expected Hogwarts to be different. But apparently, a magic school was just as full of gossip and drama as an average muggle school.
The girl introduced herself as Rachel, being in the same house and year as her. "Really? That's so weird, how come we've never met before?" She pondered, trying to recall if she'd seen Rachel before. Had she met her already? That would've been awkward. It reminded Val of the times one of her many relatives came over and asked if she remembered them, which, she didn't. However, she didn't really remember anything. Perhaps they had walked by each other before, but they had never met directly. Then again, Valerie didn't have the best memory, so she wasn't all that reliable. No matter, the girl seemed just as astonished as her, implying they probably hadn't met before.
Valerie looked down, realizing she still had Rachel's hand. "So sorry about that," she said, blushing as she let go. "Just zoned out for a second. It's such a coincidence, isn't it? You'd think we'd meet in class or our common room, yet we meet out here, a place that's completely not associated with our years or our houses," she smiled, chuckling lightly.WC: 368 Words

Rachel smiled and laughed lightly. "I know! Its so weird, maybe we just met in the wrong place at the wrong time?" She said, after all, how come they're still strangers, a little while ago, when they are literally close by. They could've met at the Gryffindor table in the great hall! Well, it is full of other people but still! Maybe at their common room or something. It seems like that question will remain a mystery.
For a little while, Rachel forgot that they we're still holding hands and when she did realize, she didn't mind though was blushing lightly but it was almost unnoticeable. Valerie then let go and then continued on. She said that her and Rachel met at a random location that didn't associated with their year and house. What Valerie said was true which made Rachel think. "True. We really met at the courtyard huh? Well I mean it isn't bad! Some friendship starts somewhere completely random and not associated to the people or something!" Rachel said while laughing lightly. She's quick to call someone a friend if she knows they are nice.
Smiling to Valerie she said, "Well, care to continue our discussion while strolling and admiring the scenery?"

She was pretty social and overall friendly, but she wasn't the type to approach random people and talk with them. She wasn't antisocial or anything but making friends wasn't exactly a breeze for her. "Yeah, that's true huh? The more random the better, in fact," she giggled.
She brushed off her shirt before turning back to Rachel. "Sure! I'd love to." She smiled warmly back at the other girl, beginning to walk. "So." Valerie pursed her lips, shifting her body weight back and forth between her heels and the front of her foot.
She wasn't the best at starting conversations. To be honest, she usually waited for the other person to ask questions. She looked out at the horizon, thinking of good conversation starters. She recalled sitting at the dinner table whenever her father had important people from his job over and her mother charging them questions. It seemed to be effective too, since she was always sitting at that table for what felt like hours. But of course, Val couldn't remember any of it.
She sighed, looking back at Rachel. Might as well step out of her comfort zone. "How are you liking Hogwarts so far?" She said, drumming lightly on her lap. "It's super cool and stuff, all the magic and all, but the classes are going to be the death of me," she groaned, dramatically rolling her head back.

Valerie asked Rachel how she was liking Hogwarts, which made Rachel think for a moment. To be honest, Rachel has mixed opinions about Hogwarts. Firstly, its magical, obviously. Second, its very... Interesting. Geese catching and all. And lastly, its very surprising. "Well, Hogwarts is very different from what I imagined. But a good different! Back at home, I don't usually get to see or do magical things. We're very, muggle like." Living with a bunch of muggles, they learned to adapt but somethings, some what non magical people considers as normal, can still surprise Rachel. Their transportation, sports, and many more.
"Sameeeeee. Sometimes we need a break from all of this magic. More importantly, the muggle born wizards and witches will need a much deserved break seeing as they are still slightly adjusting with all this." Rachel said, she has met some muggle born students and almost all of their conversation would lead to how they are still shocked and surprised with moving pictures, quidditch, house elves, magical stuff, etc. "But I think the fall ball would be a great break. Mingling with others... Sorry, didn't mean to bring it up." Remembering on why both of them decided to stroll around to clear away from all the gossips, Rachel apologized.
But she can't seem to help it. Maybe because she was already used to gossips spreading around like wildfires that it ended up rubbing on her. "How about cha? Besides all the classes and gossips, how are you generally holding up? I find myself wanting to sleep for hours and wake up to reading a book peacefully by somewhere quiet. Or maybe its just the inner laziness of me speaking."

Interacting With: @Rachel Davis | Mentions: N/A»-----------------------------------------♡------------------------------------------«Valerie was quite interested when Rachel talked about her life back home. "Really? Me too! Well, not really but we live in a muggle neighborhood. I went to a muggle school and stuff. But for some reason my mum wouldn't really ever let me learn much about muggle culture," she explained. "But I did it anyway," she giggled.
"It's so different, right? Back in muggle school it's like math and science and stuff. And everything here is just magical. It's crazy," she smiled. Val really did mind the huge change though. She adapted pretty quickly, given she had been waiting for this all her life.
The mood kind of changed when Rachel brought up the ball. Honestly, Val didn't know why she resented it so much. It honestly sounded kind of fun. But the idea that Val had absolutely nobody to go with was probably the reason she absolutely refused to talk about it. All her friends had found a date or were going with some other group.
Val grimaced, before turning to the other girl with a smile. "It's fine, really. Honestly, you have a point. It might be kind of fun, a nice break from everything else going on in the world," she queried. "It's just," she sighed. "Perhaps I don't like the idea that I'll be going alone," she looked back down at the floor.
She pursed her lips, realizing how grim the mood had gotten. "Oh gosh, so sorry about that. I didn't mean to dump all that on you," she smiled, attempting to lighten the mood.
She giggled. "I'm doing okay, I guess. You know, my parents and siblings always told me stories about Hogwarts, but I could never really exactly imagine it, you know?" She shrugged, hoping she would make sense. To be honest, the big workload and stuff isn't that much different from how much work we had to do at my school back home. The only difference is that it's magic, so honestly, it's like, ten times better. Back home we had to do practical stuff. It was a nightmare," she groaned dramatically.WC: 351 Words
