Every Writer is an Artist. Martch 23
* March 2023
Image posted by the member
As a fun activity, for the month of March, we have provided our resident artists with art prompts. We have revised our original 'Artober' (now also known as 'Martch') to include four different categories, whilst including as many art forms as we could (food, for instance, will be included as prompts under the others). Most of the efforts are considered to be out of character. However, there is an opportunity for one of the prompts in each category to be considered in character - which will be explained on the specific prompts - and an IC-published 'Recipe Book'. This is simply a way to express ourselves, have fun and show off our talents.

There will be FOUR categories - Coding, Writing, Graphics (inclusive of photography, collages etc) and Other (inclusive of drawing, painting, sculptures, digital etc). You can participate in a few or do them all, that is entirely up to you!

CODING - All coding must be new. You may use Lorem Ipsum as the default text or existing writing. You do not need to write new content unless specified. These codes do not need to be used in your encyclopedia, posts or profiles etc afterwards - these are just there to signify what is meant by this prompt. If you wish to use them after the challenge, you may.
  1. Roleplay Post Format (for use in roleplay posts)
  2. Thread Tracker (for use in encyclopedias)
  3. Letter/Owl Post Format (for use in letters)
  4. Wizard Magazine/Newsletter/Newspaper Page
  5. Character Description (for use in profile)
  6. Signature Code (for use in profile)
  7. Spell Card (a "card" featuring any spell - can be your own)
  8. Relationships Tracker (for use in encyclopedias)
  9. Playlist that fits your character (must contain at least 7 PG13 songs)
  10. IC Recipe Book Page (must include a recipe your character likes) *

* If you complete the full "coding" category, you will be able to post this code as part of our IC (in character) recipe book page, if you would like to (optional reward). This means the recipe (and code) submitted in this will be shared in a thread and officially 'published' IC by the school, with credit going to your character or kept anonymous, as per your choice. These will go in the same book as the other categories' recipe book pages for 2023. The recipe must be something your character knows/has obtained from their family/the library - or you can submit it anonymously if you prefer.
WRITING - All writing must be new. Look at the word counts specified. You can post some of these into roleplays after the challenge, if you wish to (and if it appropriate to do so).
  1. Write a poem about Spring (under 200 words)
  2. Write a gossip leaflet about your character (think Gossip Girl/Bridgerton style) (under 500 words, over 100 words)
  3. Have your character tell us their best PG13 joke (under 200 words, over 50 words)
  4. Write a post about feelings with no dialogue (under 1000 words, over 200 words)
  5. Write a solo with your character trying something new (under 1000 words, over 200 words)
  6. Make up a spell (under 300 words, over 50 words)
  7. Short adventure story (under 500 words, over 100 words)
  8. Write a post about your character training for a sport/exercising (under 1000 words, over 200 words)
  9. Write a poem about love (under 200 words)
  10. IC write a 100-300 word description of your character's favourite food (must include a recipe outside of the word count) *
* If you complete the full "writing" category, you will be able to post this description as part of our IC (in character) recipe book page, if you would like to (optional reward). This means the recipe (and description) submitted in this will be shared in a thread and officially 'published' IC by the school, with credit going to your character or kept anonymous, as per your choice. These will go in the same book as the other categories' recipe book pages for 2023. The recipe must be something your character knows/has obtained from their family/the library - or you can submit it anonymously if you prefer.
GRAPHICS - Most of these will require using images readily available to you on the Internet. These are graphics, images, collages etc. You may use your own photography too, of course. You may also use digital art/drawings. Please use free stock images, pictures you own or tools like Canva etc. Credit sources where appropriate.
  1. Character banner
  2. Hogwarts house of choice moodboard
  3. New avatar for spring/the ball
  4. Wardrobe inspiration board for a casual day in Hogsmeade
  5. Hogwarts friends

  8. Make a banner for a thread you're in
  9. Make a graphic to showcase your character's life pre-school
  10. IC recipe book page featuring a family recipe for your Hogwarts character (must include a recipe) *
* If you complete the full "graphics" category, you will be able to post this graphic as part of our IC (in character) recipe book page, if you would like to (optional reward). This means the recipe (and graphic) submitted in this will be shared in a thread and officially 'published' IC by the school, with credit going to your character or kept anonymous, as per your choice. These will go in the same book as the other categories' recipe book pages for 2023. The recipe must be something your character knows/has obtained from their family/the library - or you can submit it anonymously if you prefer.
OTHER - Drawing, painting, singing, pottery etc. These must be created by you (can be any medium, can include digital art). You cannot use images/photography in these (those would be considered 'graphics'). However, if you physically create something, such as a sculpture or painting then you may take a photo of that or scan it as your entry.
  1. A boggart (your character's fear)
  2. At least three pin badge designs that represent your character
  3. A magical creature
  4. Witch/wizardsona (your character aesthetics)
  5. A magical item (can be made up)

  7. Make up your own potion (must include effects/description somewhere)
  8. Wardrobe inspiration for a ball outfit
  9. Summer camp
  10. IC dessert made by your character (must include a recipe alongside it) *
* If you complete the full "other" category, you will be able to post this food image as part of our IC (in character) recipe book page, if you would like to (optional reward). This means the recipe (and image) submitted in this will be shared in a thread and officially 'published' IC by the school, with credit going to your character or kept anonymous, as per your choice. These will go in the same book as the other categories' recipe book pages for 2023. The recipe must be something your character knows/has obtained from their family/the library - or you can submit it anonymously if you prefer.
Rewards:

Prizes will be given on participation/completion. You will receive a reward for each completed prompt you do, with additional rewards on completing a full category - or all four categories.

For each prompt:
  • Every completed prompt = 5 sickles for each
For each full category you complete, you will receive:
  • Above money for each completed prompt results in 50 sickles (2g 16s)
  • Additional 18 sickles for the full category (giving you 4g)
  • 1 House Point
  • IC published in the Recipes Book if you wish to
For example - If you complete two full categories, you will receive double the above (so 8g, 2hp). Whilst if you complete 1 full category and 5 additional prompts, you will be rewarded for those (so 4g + 25 sickles, 1hp). Etc.

For completing all FOUR categories, you will receive:
  • Above money & house points completing all four categories (results in 16g, 4 house points, ic publishing)
  • 1 special item (which will be sent to these winners for free before it is released to the shops)
Rules:
  • No plagiarism, this must be your own work.
  • This can be on any medium and can be interpreted broadly, where appropriate. Digital, classical and unique mediums are welcome.
  • We might ask for your permission to use some of your art on the site to make things look pretty. You are free to decline.
  • The art must be PG13 (this should go without saying but just in case).
  • These pieces of art are considered to be daily/weekly challenges but some are more complicated than others. The goal is to be done by the end of 31st March.
  • To show your art/progress you can make a thread in The Art Gallery. Just tag it [Martch 23].
  • To help with moderation, please make sure it is very clear which prompt & which category you are doing at all times. You may post four posts (one for each category) with clearly marked labels between each prompt or do individual posts (ideally in order / divided by category). Whatever you want is fine but just be mindful that it has to be moderated by someone who will also be looking at everyone else's, so make it easy to moderate.

Be kind to one another. (*iNPC is Miles Thatcher)
