I am pleased that you considered me when sending out invitations to your birthday, but I must unfortunately decline. Since we are friends, I should explain that I do not like being in crowds of people, parties, nor cake. I hope you won't take offense to my selfish insistence. Any time you are interested in celebrating your life with me in another way, I would be glad to do so, as life is worth celebrating. I would like to talk over tea, or in the Great Hall while we eat.
That aside, happy birthday. I do hope you enjoy yourself at your party. If you are not enjoying yourself at any point, I encourage you to also distance yourself, your comfort is tantamount. I learned far too late in my life that not all situations are worth sticking it out for, but I am digressing.
For the occasion I am giving this owl a book I would like to suggest you read. Do not feel pressured to read it if it isn't your style. I had thought about it after reading the book you lent me. If anything I would like to know more about your taste so that I can make better suggestions going forward, so I implore you to be honest with me.
