A summer reunion

To say she was excited would be...just a bit of an understatment. Thrilled was a better way to describe how happy Tory was that her good friend and fellow Gryffindor, Suzuki, was coming to visit for a few days. She had been cut off completely from all her school friends for a month now, and, as expected, had been very lonely. Reading all day alone wasn't as fun as it used to be for her, and it was hard to even imagine having a bit of company for once.
The second year sat sprawled across her sofa, fairly tired, as she had spent all afternoon doing a deep clean of her small (yet surprisingly messy) house. The dark wood grandfather clock against the wall read 4:00, Suzuki should be arriving soon enough. Sitting up, she made her way to her bedroom, where she looked over everything one last time. Most of her many, many, books had been shoved into a large chest to save space, just a small stack left along with a potted plant. The kitchen counters were basically glimmering, thanks to 20 minutes of scrubbing, and the black cat fur spread around the house had been dusted.
Hopefully Suzuki liked cats, Jammy the cat was practically Tory's best friend at this point in time, and it would be quite unfortunate if he and her fellow second year didn't get along. Wandering about throughout the rest of the house, Tory inspected every little thing. Since the cottage was so teensy, there really wasn't anything she could do about the intense amount of trinkets sprawled about on every surface, but she could at least dust and scrub the floors.
The grandfather clock ticked loudly. 4:15. Any minute now, Tory told herself, any minute...the house was painfully quiet. She very much looked forwards to having a conversation with her good friend again, filling up the empty silence that surrounded her, eneveloping her. All that could be heard was the creak of the floor boards under her as she paced.
Any minute now.

A summer reunion

She had taken the train over. The Muggle train. She had taken it before, so it wasn't that big of a deal. And now, she was standing in front of a nice, cozy looking cottage, all types of plants growing healthily around it. It was a nice place, much nicer than her house. It also felt more like a home too, and not a mausoleum. It was a really nice place.
She had only brought a medium sized black trunk, a couple of books, her clothes and stuff in it. Just the necessities, really. Studying the address carefully (she would rather not knock on a random Muggle's house), she verified that this was indeed Tory Williamson's house, and knocked. Suzuki glanced at her watch. Around fourteen hundred hours. She was a bit late, but it had partly been the long walk from the last Muggle bus stop to Williamson's house, although she didn't mind it much. The temperature was terrific- not a cloud in the sky, n0ot to hot, not too cold. Compared to the dreary rainy days in London, this place felt like a whole other world. It looked like a different world, too.
Peering in a side window, she could see a black cat milling around.

A summer reunion

On her third lap around the kitchen, Tory heard a knock. And then saw a pale, familiar face looking into a window at Jammy. Tucking her hair behind her ear, the girl made her way over to wear her grumpy, black cat was lying comfortably on the windowstill. She scooped him up in her arms, then moving over to the door and creaking it open. "Hello, Suzuki!" She exclaimed, throwing her free arm around her fellow Gryffindor excitedly . Backing away awkwardly and gripping Jammy tighter so her didn't slip out of her arm and onto the ground, she realized that may have been a bit much. "Er...sorry." She muttered, taking another step backwards into the house and rubbing the back of her neck nervously.
It hadn't been too long since they last saw each other, only two months or so, but it had still seemed like forever since Tory had seen any of her friends, really. "I suppose I should point out where everything is while we're out here." She stated, more to herself then Suzuki. "Right, so, over there and surrounding us is the meadows, that's pretty obvious." She pointed to the rolling grass hills and flowers in the distance behind her and to her right. "Over there is the pond and wood." She then said, making a hand gesture to behind her guest at the dark forest. "I don't recommend going in there alone."
Tory almost lead Suzuki inside, forgetting about the fur ball now lazily spread across her arm she forgot to introduce. "Oh yeah, this is Jammy, by the way. He usually roams around the house and across the counters throughout the day, so don't mind him. Also, he sleeps in my room, but if you don't want him to I'll just kick him out.. " She finished, huffing from talking so much in one breath. "Come in." She said, smiling again and holding the door open.

A summer reunion

The black cat disappeared from view, and not a second later, the door was flung open, and Tory Williamson, the person who Suzuki had gotten well acquainted with at Hogwarts threw an arm around Suzuki. She quickly backed away, and Suzuki noticed the black cat in her arms.
" Hey Tory," she replied, watching the black cat squirm in Tory's arms. She listened to Tory talking about the surrounding landmarks, following the girl's finger with her eyes.
"Why not?" She asked, referring to the forest behind them. " Is there something undesirable in there? It had some resemblance to the famous forests at Hogwarts, where students had gone missing before. Some turned up while others didn't. Suzuki couldn't help wondering if they were still alive or not.
Tory then introduced her black cat, who was now lazily spread in Tory's arms. He was, by comparison to the neighborhood cat back in London, very good-looking and skinny. He didn't seem to have a problem with his intestines, either. Suzuki wondered why Tory didn't bring her cat to Hogwarts with her.
" It's fine. I like cats," she replied, tentatively scratching Jammy under the chin.
"Come in," Tory said, opening the door wider. Suzuki thanked her and stepped in, heaving her trunk in behind her.
" Have you done anything for summer yet? Like gone on vacation or something." Suzuki asked, wanting to know if she was the only one stuck inside a house doing close to nothing. She peered around the house. It was just as nice inside as it was outside- it seemed to be well lived in, even if it was a bit messy.

"About the forest," Tory started to answer Suzuki's past question as they stepped inside, the door shutting loudly behind them. "I wouldn't know. My mother threatened to take away my favourite books if I went in there without her, and she only ever sticks to the main path when we do go. When I ask about it, she doesn't give me any valid answers." Sighing, she answered her friend's other question about her summer. She wished, really wished, she could saying something interesting like "Oh, yeah, we went to Egypt and visited the pyramids and then went to Antartica, where we saw penguins. Then we went to China and Japan", but she couldn't lie. "No, unfortunately. Been stuck here since June. How 'bout you?" Tory said honestly, shaking her head sadly. She lead Suzuki into the house, dropping Jammy as they walked, who quickly scurried back onto the windowstill where he had been before.
The biggest (yet not very big) room in the house was the open-plan kitchen and living area. On the right was the small kitchen, with wooden counters filled with clutter and shelves wrapping around the walls, and a round, real wood table in the center with 4 wobbly chairs surrounding it. Then, just across the way, was an old, squeaky couch and fireplace. There were many bookshelves, but also a good amount of books just lying in piles on the ground and on the coffee table. Tory had seriously tried to cram all of these books somewhere, but it was hopeless trying to find room.
"Kitchen, living room." She commented simply, gesturing to each side quickly before continuing. Farther along were the L-shaped stairs. They were built into the wall so they didn't just jut out into the living space, and led straight up to the second floor where both teensy bedrooms of the Williamson home sat. "Up we go. Do you want me to help carry your trunk for you?" She offered kindly. The last time she had visitors was Christmas, and those were just her grandmothers, so Tory really didn't know how to be a good host, but hey, at least she was trying.

This only made the forests more luring to Suzuki, but he decided not to bring up anything about it or to go in it. It probably wouldn't be very... he didn't know, polite? Or nice? It would be kind of weird, he guessed. Probably. In London City, the only places he wasn't supposed to, as his mother had informed him, were the alleyways, and then Suzuki had went anyways. Yes, there were the gangs, which he found out about the hard way, but it turned out all right. His mother, who hadn't found out, probably wouldn't have done much, either. She didn't seem to care about him anymore.
"It's a nice place. Do you live here with only your mom?" Suzuki asked. He knew enough by now to recognize where single mothers lived, but he didn't want to be rude. The place was pretty small, but it was big enough so that it felt comfortable to be in, unlike Suzuki's house. Tory gestured upstairs, and offered to take his trunk.
"I got it, thanks." He said, switching the trunk to his left hand. His right had tired.

"It's a nice place. Do you live here with only your mom?" Suzuki asked, and Tory nodded at him.
"Thank you. Um, my dad passed when I was 2, so it's just been us, yeah. She's not around too often." She explained thoughtfully, a touch of almost unnoticeable sadness in her tone. The second year then lead him farther up the stairs, to the second floor of the house. From there, she shuffled her way over to a wooden door on the left.
It was already open, and always was because it had no lock, so she just pushed it open and voilà! Her bedroom. It was small, and had a single red window peering out into the yard. Under the window was her trunk, where pretty much everything she owned was stored in. Then there was the bed, which, as you may have guessed, was an average bed. Jammy pranced thorugh the wide open door and jumped on the bed, messing up the blanket more than they already were and getting black cat fur all over. "Here's my room. You can sleep here if you like, or..." She stepped out of her own room, moved 2 feet over to the next door, and pushed that one open. That was the guestroom, where her grandparents slept when they came. "Here!" She gestured to both rooms.
"It's up to you, really, I don't mind either way." Tory noted reassuringly. She hoped Suzuki wasn't having a hard trouble deciding. Were there too many decisions to be made? Gah! Was she being a bad host? It was all so new to her, having friends other than her very few family members in the first place was hard enough, let alone trying to be welcoming to a newcomer to her humble abode.
"So, what's it gonna be, Suzuki?" She asked him, grinning.

A summer reunion

"Thank you. Um, my dad passed when I was 2, so it's just been us, yeah. She's not around too often," Tory said, something closely resembling (or just resembling) sadness in her voice.
" Sorry. I only live with my mother too- she's only home for about a couple hours per day at night." Suzuki's mother never brought up anything about his "father", and he knew enough by now not to ask. He'd also done some prying with his aunt, and after that, Suzuki decided to never ask about the mysterious guy ever again.
They went into Tory's bedroom, which was just an average bedroom. Bed, dresser, nice view. It was incredibly neat, contrasting the rest of the house. Not that Suzuki minded- he spent most of his time at home living in a stack of books and papers.
"Here's my room. You can sleep here if you like, or..." She stepped outside, and pushed another door open, revealing a guest bedroom, which was pretty average too.
"It's up to you, really, I don't mind either way. So, what's it gonna be, Suzuki?"
" I'll just sleep in your room, thanks. I prefer sleeping on the floor to sleeping on the bed. Kind of weird."
