Closed 2021 Talent Show Spectators

Noah spun around, making his voice as loud as he could, "Ok! I forgot to mention several things. One, you see those wooden crosses up there?" Noah pointed to the crosses above the stage, where it was away from the performers, and away from the audience if it did fall. "On each of these crosses, are names engraved on them. Simon Kincaid, Paige Grant, Winter Wolfhartz, Lavinia Cloven, and Avery Chen. Just use Flipendo or Incendio to knock down or burn the cross to eliminate contestants. Now, each contestant will get a prize, or money, so it isn't a big deal to vote. We wanted to test out the audience voting system to see if we like how it goes."

Noah paused.

"You'll see Bluebell flames, and don't worry, they can't harm you. We wanted to ensure safety of everyone! You'll see them appear when something happens."

Noah smiled, giving a thumbs up to those who were listening.

"You'll see floating candles out here in the audience, and to our hope, it will provide relaxation and calmness in the crowd. This is to also calm our contestants. Now, for the special effects on the stage, there won't always be magic for special effects, so we have to also rely on Muggle techniques."

The boy walked to the back of the House, his arms behind his back. His posture was erect, he noted the red curtains when he slowly made a run for it. "I wish you all a fantastic night! Enjoy the show!"

A Talent Show! What a great way to start the weekend, Scarlet had gone down to breakfast early that morning so that she could arrive at the rehearsal room in good time for the show. Back in her dorm she rifled through all the clothes she had brought to the school with her, would people be dressed up? 'It was the morning,' she thought, so people wouldn't be too smart. She opted for a smart long sleeved dress in her favourite colour, burgundy, she paired it with a pair of trainers, 'there, smart casual,' she thought looking over herself before leaving the dungeons.

Turning off the staircases on the fourth floor, Scarlet quickly noticed Noah waiting outside the Rehearsal room, waiting to usher spectators and contestants alike in. She was quietly relieved that Noah had also made the effort in his choice of outfit, wearing a smart shirt and sweater.

"Hey Noah!" she said, greeting the founder of the theatre club, Scarlet was glad she had made the decision to join the club at the start of the year, she hadn't done anything in theatre before then, but she loved the idea of being a part of all the shows and performances. "All looks really good in there, did everyone manage to set everything up okay?" she asked him as she peeked into the room. The windows had all been blocked off, shrouding the room in darkness and focussing all attention on the stage set up at the front of the room, lit up with a number of stage lights. A dim light was cast over the audience seating area, the floating candles above being the source.

"Right, I'm going to go grab a seat, good luck!" she said, giving Noah one last big smile before entering the room and taking a seat on the first row next to a blonde girl that had already arrived.

"Hi! Been looking forward to this all week!" she said to the girl, Scarlet didn't recognise the girl from the theatre club so continued to introduce herself, "I'm Scarlet, do you know anyone that's performing?" she asked, curious if the girl had come to support anyone in particular.

The first contestant was Simon, Scarlet was excited to watch her friend, although she knew he had, she hadn't watched him perform to a crowd before, she wished now she had gone back stage to wish him luck before. She recognised all the names of those performing in the show, Simon she knew well of course, and the others from either the summer or around the Slytherin common room. She needn't have been nervous for him though, he was amazing, as soon as he finished she jumped to her feet, bursting into applause.

Next up, another musician, this time a violinist, after the piano, the violin was the most soothing sound to her ears, if she wasn't already trying to persuade her parents to get a piano, she would be tempted to try her hand at the violin, but it was going to be tricky enough to learn one instrument. It was a powerful piece, she probably maintained quite a neutral expression for the first half of the performance, it was the type of music to get lost in one's thoughts with, she was brought back to the Rehearsal room with the sound of clapping marking the end of the performance. She joined in with the applause, it was a truly magical performance, if everyone was this good how would they ever choose one winner.

Today was the day. The big talent show, the first thing for their club, the great showing off of Hogwarts's most talented... It was... today. Right? Matthew wasn't quite sure, he couldn't remember if it was the tenth or eleventh of September it was supposed to take place on, or which of those days was today. Either way, he'd woken up late and bolted for where he was supposed to sell food because getting kicked out of a club you could potentially miss class for wasn't on his to-do list.

And, upon arriving to a bustle activity he discovered that he was, in fact, correct. He still didn't know if it was the tenth or eleventh but he'd shown up on time nonetheless and that was all that mattered. Stifling a yawn, he headed for the Concession Stand the house elves had set up for him to sell food at. There was another girl around who could help - she must've been pulled to go backstage - but since things were only just starting to pick up in the stands he had it covered for now.

"Thanks," he said to one of the elves with a nod as he reached the area, taking in everything available to sell. He'd vaguely spoken to a house elf from the kitchen about food procurement, but talking about it and seeing it laid out were two completely different things.

The right side of back counter was laden with your standard theater fare - popcorn, fizzy drinks, and hot dogs - but the left side was a more colorful array of snacks that could only be found in the Wizarding World. Snacks included Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans, Sherbert Lemon Drops, Chocolate Frogs, Jelly Slugs, Sugar Quills, Pumpkin Pastries, Cupcakes, Ice Cream, and Liquorice Wands. Drinks included Hot Chocolate, Pumpkin Juice, Virgin Butterbeer, and Otter's Fizzy Orange Juice.

Near enough to feed the entire school, Matt reckoned, and the dreadful realization that he hadn't come up for prices for any of this beforehand made him want to trudge back to bed.

"Let's see..." A quick search around found him holding someone's borrowed quill, writing on a large sheet of parchment, and he tucked his tongue between his teeth as he wrote:

When he was finished, he held the sign back to study it. He was 99.9% certain the prices didn't match up to the outside world's, but imagining trying to do math with knuts and stuff gave him a headache. These were all pretty affordable anyway, and since the food was free from the kitchen and the proceeds went to the theater club it was for a good cause. Nodding to himself, he climbed up onto the front counter to hang the sign before hopping down to stand at his proper place. Drumming his fingers on the counter and idly keeping an eye on both show and the people entering, he waited for customers.

Samantha had been busy helping with preparing for the talent show, which was not surprising as she had 3 jobs. She was part of the stage crew, ticket stand and concession stand. She felt like she had to be at three places at the same time. It was something others might find stressful, but the young girl really liked it. It made her feel like she was really important.

Before everybody started arriving she had helped Noah with blocking all the light out of the room, she had also been busing making sure that every performance had everything they needed. She wasn't in charge, but she was okay with that. She helped because she enjoyed it, and on top of that she had lots of free time.

Samantha watched the first people arrive. She was really excited for the performance. She had to help out a lot, but she did get a free ticket and free things are always good. Luckily for her she didn't have to do all of her jobs alone. For the concession stand there was Matthew, a first year Slytherin, who had already made a list of the snacks and drinks and their prices.

She quickly made her way over to the ticket stand, where Hildegard was already setting up everything. "Hey, do you need any help setting this up? Of course I will help selling the tickets, but you don't seem to be needing any help setting this up." Samantha told the first year, who had just preformed the levitating charm.

Instead of sitting down, as Hildegard did, Samantha kept standing. "I could walk around with the tickets to the people who already said down to see if they already have a ticket or if they still have to buy it. That way we can be sure that everybody pays what they have to. What do you think?" She stated it as a question towards the other girl, but Samantha had already made up her mind. She would walk around no mater what the girl said, but of course it was nicer if the Slytherin agreed with her amazing plan.

Listening to Samantha's suggestion Hildegard agreed, what a nice upper year she was !

- Yeah sure go ahead ! I think that if I need help I tell you ? Right now I don't think I will need much help unless they come by hundreds. She said.

The ticket seller girl took a bunch of ticket with her hand and presented it to Samantha.

-Take this in case some people did not pay ? She suggested.

- I was wondering tho, what will you do if they refuse to pay ? Hildegard wondered.

-Do you think Noah is fine if we cast them some Jinx ? She said laughing nervously.

After that she quickly got to Matthew Gray's stand, took a hot dog and a cupcake leaving 4 sickles behind.

- I'm taking that from you, the girl briefly said to Matthew.

Then got back to her stand, waiting for customer's to come, it may be a long working time so better be prepared.
She did however wonder if the food was free for the staff and if she therefore did not waste 4 sickles for that.
After all they also had free entrance ? Well technically she'd need to sell either all tickets or wait until no one else would come to assist at the talent show.

I am ready Vivian smiled slightly at the mirror, scanning her own image. But the smile didn’t last even for a minute, “I guess I still am not” she wiped the makeup off her face as she whined. For her, make-up felt like a hard thing even if she is really good at that but still was not confident with that even if she’s aware of it. The time got consumed with her wiping and redoing make up again and again. Finally when she realised she would be late for the talent show if all the time is spent on her makeup, she stopped with that. Tucking her hair behind her ears, she zoomed in to have a clear view of her face alone. Rubbing her face a lot make it look a little pinker than it normally would b. It looked a lot better before she sighed and walked away from her dorm with her clutch bag after smoothing down the wrinkles on her poplin material jumpsuit which had white and grey Polk dots print on it.

Immediately when she entered a room, her eyes glanced around in search of her friend Samantha. her friend was usually punctual unlike her. It was because of the blonde that Sam joined the club She must have had a busy day but I hope she enjoyed it, she smiled as soon as her eyes caught Samantha who was at the ticket stand, propped selling tickets. “Hey Sam!” as she reached towards her, and smiled at the girl beside Samantha. The first thing she would ask after that would be, “How do I look? Do I at least look not bad?” rubbing her shoulders. After buying a ticket, she moved to the concession stand and glanced briefly at the menu. Smiling at the boy “Hi, um I would like to buy 1 hot dog, um 3- no 4 pumpkin pastry, um 2 cupcakes and that’s all- ah no no I want ice cream too if it’s not chocolate flavour, first of all, what are the available flavours?” as she delved in her bag for her small pouch which had the knuts and sickles inside.

When it looked like the show going to start, she rushed towards the seat with her hands full of snacks. There she could see Scarlet, “Scarlet! Hi” she whispered loudly as she got seated beside her and waved hi to the girl who was beside Scarlet. She hasn’t talked to her before but have noticed her only this year and assumes her as a first year student. Placing all the snacks on her lap, she looked up when Simon arrived on the stage and waved back to him, not sure whether he noticed her. Since the day she met him, she was waiting to see him play the guitar but couldn’t. The wait is over now, she could finally watch him play it and sing. It seemed like the girl she just now met knew Simon when she heard her cheering him on. Why didn’t I get a chance to hear it earlier?, she whooped and clapped harder for him than she could do for anybody else. He was the only performer who she knows well. It seemed like Scarlet enjoyed his performance too, she even jumped to her feet and the blonde would have too but her lap was full of snacks that she couldn’t move from her seat.

The next performance was by a boy to whom she have not talked to but knows that he is Slytherin. Violin, the first thing that comes to her mind was the violin which was floating in the air in the maze, her secret dance performance! the boot! That was nice and entertaining. The violin was so soothing, Avery was an amazing violinist, she just closed her eyes letting all the thoughts consume her mind until he finished playing. A smile spread on her face, “That was amazing” she murmured, secretly wiping the tears from her eyes, hopefully no one would notice it. After all it was dark. She didn’t know what she was feeling, happy? Sad? No idea but still made her feel some strong emotion. Another performer who she came to know the name just now entered, but she wasn’t a first year. In fact, they both belong to the same house. Vivian waved back to Paige as she smiled. The dance was just extraordinary, she didn’t know how these people were so talented and they were so inspiring. Each and everyone’s performance was amazing, “It must be so tough for the judges to decide the winner” she whispered to Scarlet.

Samantha smiled by the idea of the students coming in such large numbers, that seemed very unlikely to happen. "Thank you," she said as she took the tickets from Hildegard.

"I haven't thought of that yet. I just assumed people would pay, I don't see why they wouldn't pay." The brunette shrugged. "I hope we don't have to jinx anybody! Let's try to avoid that situation." Samantha smiled. "And besides, it wouldn't even matter what Noah says is fine, we aren't allowed to do it from the teachers. Anyway, good luck with the ticket sells, I'll see you later."

“Hey Sam!” The familiar voice of her best friend reached Samantha's ears. Sam gave Vivian a hug and took a few steps back to see her friends whole outfit. "You don't look bad at all! You look really nice actually!" Samantha could see that her friends face was a little pinker then usual. Sam didn't know a lot about make-up, but she had heard her sister talk about blush. She assumed that that was what her friend was wearing on her face, to make it look like she blushed? Samantha didn't understand make-up at all, so she trusted Vivian that it was good.

"I have to sell these tickets and make some money, so I am going to go!" Sam waved at her friend and turned around. She made a round through the rehearsal room, checking if everybody had a ticket. Most of the students already had it, and those who didn't brought one from her. Luckily nobody had to be jinxed for their money.

When the performances started Samantha sat down close to the ticket stand in a way that she also was able to see the concession stand. That way she could help with both of the stands if she had to. Simon, a friend of Samantha, started with his performance. She cheered for her quill pall as he finished his song. She had never hear him sing or play guitar, he was really good.

Simon introduced the new contestant, Avery Chen. Samantha had never heard that name, so she was curious who would come up on the stage. She may not have known the name of the boy, but she for sure knew his face. She had been wanting to speak to him since the day that they first met.(which was only a day before the talent show, but it sounds so much more dramatic like this xD)

The boy that had fallen into the lake the day before started to play his violin. It was very pretty, but Samantha didn't really notice it. She was more focused on getting closer to the stage without getting all the attention on herself. She wanted to know if that really was the boy that had run away from her the day before.

She was a few meters away from the stage as she observed the boy. It was defiantly the puppy boy from the lake. It seemed to be perfect, she had been looking for him, she wanted answers. Why had he run away from her?

Avery left the stage after he had introduced the next contestant. Samantha didn't pay attention to the new contestant, her eyes were glued to Avery. She would ask the questions today and he would answer them, there was no other way it would go.
