After taking great interest in Muggle Studies, Simon wanted to experience what the muggle world had to offer. Despite his family's protestations, he slid through admission to the University of Wales by the skin of his teeth. During summer orientation, he met the kind-eyed, auburn-haired Gertie. And the rest, they say, is history. The moment in which the wizarding world became known to Gertie is precariously hidden from their children, but the family takes pride in their mixed heritage. They reside in the wizarding world but often spend vacation in Wales with Gertie's parents. At the age of 23, Gertie gave birth to their first child, Simon Preston Spindler VII, who decided by the age of three to be called "Preston" instead of "Simon." The first in the long line to do so. Two years later, their second son, Talon, was born. As if almost by routine, two years later came Etta. And as a very generous, very unexpected surprise, their second daughter Catherine arrived 10 short years later. We now find our family at the dawn of Etta's Hogwarts career. She joins her brothers at the renowned school of magic. Etta is in her first year, Talon his third, and Preston his fifth. Reducio first instance of magic At the ripe age of 8, when she was playing hide and seek with her older brothers, Etta experienced her first instance of magic. She knew they were cheating by locking the closet door in the hall that they were hiding in. Frustrated and determined to win, she felt an unknown spark quell alongside her anger. The locked doorknob glowed red-hot and Etta was rendered speechless. Her brothers inside the closet; however, were not so quiet. Her parents came running and after assessing the situation quickly, her father swung her into his arms in joy while her mother cooled the doorknob with a mug of water and released the brothers. Though still a bit shaken up from the event, her brothers eventually celebrated her magic. Their mother celebrated alongside, more quietly than when her sons first discovered their magic. Another wizard in the family. Maybe she wanted a child that she could teach in the ways only a muggle truly could. Maybe her mind was still on the glowing doorknob. Nevertheless, the family ate cake and shared stories of famous witches, further exciting Etta and the magic she would develop. Reducio personality Etta inherited her mother's muggle nature slightly more than her father's magic-fueled blood. Despite her ambition and drive, her off-balanced mixed blood often causes magical blunders, but none strong enough to cause Etta to run for the hills. She is determined to overcome the unfair percentage while also infusing her life with the skills one can only learn in the muggle world. An oddly shaped yet perfectly fitting piece in the Spinster family puzzle, she plans to make an impact on the world by uniting the muggles and the wizards. Reducio appearance Etta takes great pride in her resemblance to her mother. Aside from their auburn hair and kind eyes, they also have strong-willed minds and hardworking hands (often referred to as "Henning hands" after her mother's maiden name).
