28th July 2021.

By ancestry and default as the last Notresvace, the inheritance of the dead pureblood family had gone to her two years ago. For a teen like her to come in possession of such a historic monument, it should have brought her some delight, but not for long. There was not much but still some purpose the building provided. However, to say the least, she did not vibe well with the large run-down haunted manor. This but more... run-down

The long history of the Notrésvace was grim, so was all that was left in the account of its long journey to the name's eventual downfall. The castle never saw a glimpse of warm sunlight before its legacy was snuffed out. Rows of gravestones after gravestone lined the barren weed-ridden garden adjacent to the run-down castle. More than a quarter of the edifice had been run down to mere rubble from various factors, most exploded through the gruelling duels that have taken place throughout history.

The entire place lingered with death. Even in the supposed mid of summer, the castle remained cold and dark. Even in its poor condition, the Notresvace castle was huge with much for her to explore. Yet, Aurelia did not want much to do with the expanse, even if it was where she was birthed.

This Summer, however, the lack of one's accommodation finally gave the place a temporary purpose. In fact, a great addition to meet the gloomy atmosphere of the castle. Even though she'd think they were perfectly capable, she had left her house-elf there, one who had been serving the Notresvace for no less than 4 generations, Eaux. Just in case. Who knew if the old relic of a building housed anything dangerous. It was a big house, and Aurelia herself had gotten lost once or twice. Eaux knew the castle more than anyone still living and breathing did.

Initially, she had been apprehensive of allowing someone into the relic of the building. But shortly after, it was a decision that didn't really concern anyone but herself. After all, the Notresvace had all died off. She had brought them here and subsequently left them there for weeks - with Eaux - of course. She had more important things to attend to. Family matters. But in that short span of time, she had gotten less than desire news. News that brought her back to this very place, the spooky Notresvace Manor.

It was news she had - or rather, felt the need to share with those two in the castle. Stepping into the dusty castle, she would call out, "Hello?" Well, how else would she summon one in the great expanse of the huge castle? She also wondered what he'd been up to all this while.

There was only a few days left before Howard would be heading back to Hogwarts for summer camp. A was a part of him that was looking forward to it as the activities could be a bit of fun and there were a few people he was excited to see again, but there was definitely a part of him that would miss the peace and quiet of the Notresvace estate. Most would probably look at the neglected manor as an eye sore or find it creepy with how the vast halls always seemed dark and gloomy. Not Howard. Although there was the occasional moment when he would have to check in with the keepers of the ancient home, for the most part he was left to his own devices which was just about the complete opposite of his life at Hogwarts. The chance to live a quiet life could be lonely, but for the first time in a long time he had a chance to reflect in peace.

His days were mostly filled by letting his long legs roam the estate. The place was like a maze, but fortunately Eaux was only a snap away. The elf seemed to be as old as the house Howard was staying in and he was unsure if they approved of him or not, however they would do their duties and provide him with whatever he needed. Directions was Howard's most common request, but the elf would also make sure he was fed and properly clothed. When not roaming the ancient halls, Howard would spend his time in the nearby forest. A pleasant change that he could actually roam the woods without fear of almost certain death. The trees provided him protection from the damaging sun and a chance to hunt small game without any prying eyes was a godsend. Their sustenance was not nearly as rewarding as the donations he received at school, but the chance to actually hunt was a good trade. All in all his time here let well spent.

This day would start like any other, but as he made his way closer towards the entrance a faint but familiar voice would reach his ears. Aurelia had finally returned. "Oi, where you been?" Howard called out as he made his way to her.

With its history far more dreadful than its run-down exterior, despite its great worth serving as a near-ancient relic, Aurelia would rather want nothing to do with it. Being within its walls unsettled her, likely a psychological manifestation of what she knew about its story, the structure seem to reek of the same dark unnerving presence that was unique to the fifteen-year-old. Upon stepping in, the dim, poorly lit atmosphere made it hard to see. On the contrary, Aurelia should have gotten used to the building's peculiar aesthetics by now.

The call echoed almost eerily through the near-empty halls. Silence. Therefore, when Howard's voice finally broke the silence, it caused her to flinch is surprise, turning towards the source as her wand was drawn from her side, feet placed a distance apart in a defensive stance. Unlike Howard blessed with some perks that came with the dhampir package, Aurelia did not have blindvision or any other superpower abilities to have notified her of his near presence beforehand. "Don't creep up on me like that," she hissed in response upon realisation of the lack of threat. Not that a dhampir wasn't a threat, but to her, Howard really wasn't a big deal. It wasn't often for Aurelia to be spooked so easily, but being in the castle's premises just made her incredibly uneasy.

Flustered, Aurelia was almost desperate to regain her sense of sight that she was overly reliant on that she nearly forgot about the dhampir's strict aversion to light. "Lum-" The last syllabus was almost about to leave her lips but Aurelia caught it on her tongue just in time. "Apologies, bad habit." With a grimace, she would mutter. A sharp snap of her fingers would summon Eaux, already with a torch, glowing with orange flames flickering at its wake which she took before dismissing the elf.

Finally, her temporary visual oblivion was restored setting Howard's figure as clear as daylight. "The Maldives on vacation with my boyfriend." The same card would be used again as an excuse. In short - none of your business. "Blood?" she would ask so casually with her wrist extended and facing upward towards the dhampir. It was fairly unlikely that he obtained human blood that was arguably essential to every dhampir's sanity over his period of stay. Should he take the offer he would notice that her blood no longer lingered from the taste of acrid nicotine. It was a fact that she went cold turkey in the summer. Like any other, her parents were not pleased to find a pack of cigarettes in her possession.

If Howard were keen enough, he might notice a peculiar trinket on her ring finger glimmering against the warm glow of the torch that was oddly uncanny to an engagement ring. Of course, it was significance of an arrangement to be put to action in a short couple of years time. "Found anything interesting here? I trust that you've met Astrild?" Aurelia would begin walking in the direction towards the main hall.

"There has been some... change of plans over the past few weeks. Don't fret, I'm not going to kick you out of here anytime so soon. We've got things to talk about and that's the main reason I've come here. First, given you've been staying here for some time, a history lesson on the place should fall suit. Grand Aunt's orders. " She stated as she carried on walking, torch in hand lighting the vicinity before her.

"Have you noticed the change of my lastname sometime ago? Or why Heiny' carries a different one?"

Falentra had never have thought to have been in such a place as this. It was like some castle, one a mother would read to you where those pretty princess lived... or maybe this was more suited for a villain. It didn't give off those fairy-tale vibes that are spoken of in books. Nonetheless, Falentra appreciated the offer, and change in location.
Hogwarts was an alright place to spend your free time, but even that became boring after awhile. Not to mention the students having no other choice but to return home, or whoever was care they were in. In Falentras case, it was her Uncles, but she hadn't seen him since she first attended Hogwarts, so the encounter would be awkward to say the least.

The Notresvace manor had been explored throughout her time here and there wasn't many around for her to interact with. A few house elves were seen and other noises she couldn't quite put her finger on, but the most important one of all─ Aurelia wasn't to be seen. It was strange, but the peace and quiet was quite nice and it was somewhat of a holiday she was to enjoy before she headed back for Summer Camp at Hogwarts.

A walk along the never-ending grounds was going to be the first thing on Falentra's list to do today. It was always a good way for her to wake up fresh and gather her thoughts for the day ahead. Yet before she even had the chance to make her way down the stairs a faint voice could have been heard from below. It sounded like Aurelia, but... was it? She was about to creep down and have a nosey but before she could, another voice piped up. It was Howard's, that she knew. But what was he doing here? How long had he been here? Was he the one she had been hearing but couldn't quite put her finger on what it was? He'd of smelt her scent, surely? And if he hadn't, he was sure to have now so it was best not to linger in the shadows any longer than she had.

Upon her small journey down the stairs, she had caught on to the small talk, or more so the offer of blood. The nerve... If it was anyone else, Fal would have probably been down those stairs in no time and attempted a fight in some way or another because, well... that was just classic Fal. However, Aurelia was a friend. At least, she thought they were. It was a weird relationship that they shared, but they somehow clicked and Falentra couldn't help but be fond of her, despite these offerings she gave.
So instead of going with the rash introduction, she remained patient and walked slowly down towards the pair, eventually revealing herself from the shadows. Her eyes locked first with Howard's, who she offered a small, somewhat awkward/shy smile to before lowering them to Aurelia's wrist. ''Such a kind offer Auri. I didn't take you as the sort.'' Her eyes now lifted and set on the girls. Her smile grew slightly. A bit of playful banter never hurt nobody, but it was also a little dig at the same time. ''But if he's to take a taste from anyone, it'll be me. So lower your wrist.'' It was petty talk, but she couldn't help feel a wave of jealous hit her. She wasn't to comment further on offer she gave. She had said her piece. Besides, Howard was a big boy and could answer for himself. As hard as it was for her, she brushed what remained off and listened to the rest of what she had to say.
She spoke little on where she had been, but maybe there was a reason for that. A question Fal was sure to ask sooner or later─ and The Maldives wasn't going to be the answer she was looking for.

No further words were to come from Falentra just yet. The questions were mainly for Howard anyway, and she was quite alright with just listening for now. It was all so weird for her to just appear out the blue like this. And for Howard to be here too. It couldn't have been a coincidence. To wait and be given a proper tour wasn't something Falentra had the patience in doing, but, she was a guest and Auri was a friend. She had to be respectful and considerate for those she cared for. So a walk beside the pair it was, and with ears perked up she was to listen to what she had to say.

Howard rolled his eyes at Aurelia as she hissed her warning. "A bit jumpy, eh?" He teased her slightly as it was uncommon for the Gryffindor's stoic persona to break. Not that he blamed her. If he were to return to his home, if that's even what this crazy place was to her, he would have been a wreck. Still, it proved too tempting not to take a poke. "Not that I blame you. This place is a bit much, yeah?" Howard added to keep the waters calm.

"No worries." He responded to Aurelia's apology. "As long as it's not right in my face I should be fine." Howard continued with the humor. That terrible day in the Owlery had affected them for so long, but for a while now they seemed to move past it. Cracking jokes was his way of moving on and as Eaux arrived with a torch his playful smile would be evident upon his face. "Go there often?" The banter went on as she used the now familiar excuse for her absence, but he would get the underlying meaning and leave it at that.

Howard's eyes would flash for a moment as she presented her wrist to him. It was a mix of excitement and gratitude. The first because it had been quite some time since he had a dose of human blood, the second because the gesture seemed to come from a place of trust. Aurelia was different than most of his peers. There was a certain edge that separated her from the rest, but still his attack on her must have been terrifying. However, the fact that she continued to offer herself must have come from understand and empathy for him and his kind. Something that was often lacking within his community.

He would take her wrist without a word as he let his gaze speak for him. They wouldn't leave hers as he expertly let one of his fangs nick her flesh. Although he felt grateful to her his actions would be methodical as he quickly drank from her and then held his thumb over to apply pressure for a moment. The wound was shallow and wouldn't bleed long. "You've quit smoking." He said rather matter of factly as he quenched his thirst. The pair would then turn towards the main hall.

"It's...an interesting place." Not a really specific answer, but the best he could manage at the time. The castle was unlike anything he had seen before. Yes, he spent most of the year in one at Hogwarts, but for a place this size to belong to just one family seemed like something from medieval times. Howard couldn't help but chuckle as Aurelia brought up Astrild. Now speak of interesting. "Yeah, couldn't miss her now could I?" He would then go quiet as she spoke of a change of plans. "I've noticed..." Howard was going to speak of her change of name, but a certain scent would fill his sensitive nostrils.

As he turned to face the newcomer he would know who it was before he saw her, but still his heart would skip a beat. The scent had caught his attention before, but he had shrugged it off as longing. A part of him knew she was here. It made sense considering how close she and Aurelia were. They would share a moment before Falentra spoke. "Come now, Fal. It's not like that." True words. Aurelia was certainly beautiful, but there had never been that spark between them. The way Falentra had shared her blood carried a meaning he had never had with anyone besides her.

"Alright, Aurelia. A history lesson to satisfy ole Grand Auntie. Whats first then?" Howard hoped to keep away from all hostilities. He had a lot he wanted to say, but perhaps it was best to let everyone get more comfortable first.

In a steady breath, she calmed herself. Over the two years since she came to know about the existing Notresvace property, Aurelia encountered little danger within its walls. It was a safe space, barren of nothing but her own thoughts. Yet there was the lingering sense of unease whenever she was in the mansion. Having another with her in the castle-like place was unusual, but nevertheless gave her a sense of assurance.

The day in the owlery was imprinted, it was painted in crimson and fear and stamped down hard in her mind with trauma. Only about a duration of a long year had Aurelia finally accepted and came to terms with what happened had, in fact, happened. Then acknowledging and putting the bloody event behind her. However, it was not only until recently that the Gryffindor could assertively say she had gotten past her inhibited fear of dhampirs.

There was no point in holding the event over anyone's head. A jab could take and one she would deliver in return, "Don't take my blood without my consent and I'm sure we'll be fine," Words said with a hint of sarcasm as Howard knicked her skin. She would hum in agreeance as Howard acknowledge her evident lack of nicotine in her veins.

The houseguest wasn't very good at commenting on how he felt about the castle, nor much about Astrild. Perhaps he was just being polite. Their conversation was interrupted with the entrance of Falentra. Finally. Surely the Hufflepuff and Slytherin would have already had a bump in. After all, Aurelia didn't set them up in semi-isolation for nothing. Blue hues would glimmer almost mischievously at Howard's response to Falentra.

"What is it like then?" She'd ask the dhampir in a scoff with an added unnecessary bit of feigned annoyance. In Aurelia's eyes, the ex-couple still harboured feelings for one another that clearly needed some work. She would simply consider herself sort of a mediator. Aurelia would approach Falentra subsequently embracing her friend in a hug, carefully ensuring the torch in hand did not singe any part of her. "I'm so glad to see you, missed you," With a brief peck, she would plant a kiss on the taller girl's cheek. Perhaps an over-exaggeration given it had been only a few weeks.

The trio had arrived in the main hall. Again, a massive room where large old portraits hung above the stairs and along the walls. These paintings were one of the very few things in the mansion that have been dutifully dusted and cleaned by Eaux. "Hope I don't bore you, will try to make this quick"

Taking a deep breath, Aurelia would then begin, pointing to the first painting featuring a man in a fine ditto suit, next to an olive skin lady with a baby in her arms and three young girls "The Notresvace family is unique because it's Matriarchal traditions. In the late 17th hundreds, during the French revolution, Earl Louis, the only heir of the Notresvace - then patriarch and muggle - married to a half-blood witch, Berthe. Berthe was unable to produce male heirs, but four girls who inherited her magical prowess. The French revolution was a time of change, so when the Earl died in the war, instead of remarrying, Berthe, mother of four young witches converted the noble-patriarch family into a wizarding matriarchal family."

Aurelia paused, taking another breath. She was far from done, she hadn't even gotten to the part of their downfall. "Berthe with her daughters strictly established their Matriarchal traditions that run on for decades within the family. In fact, initially, I wasn't sure it was appropriate for you to stay, Howard. Not because you're..." She paused as her hands moved to gesture wildly at the tall dhampir's form. "It was one of the Notresvace traditions that any male who does not share direct familial relations required permission from the head-matriarch to step foot in here..."

There was a moment of awkwardness in having Aurelia willingly share herself with Howard. For a second, she thought back to finding out about the attack that had happened between the pair, and how Aurelia was conscious about her scars. Was she not anymore or did she just trust Howard enough to give such an offering? The thought lingered, but was replaced by doubt and a slight heartache, or maybe jealousy for she felt it was her job to give such a thing, even if they were no longer a couple. An inner shrug was forced and the smile replaced the little pain that hovered over Aurelia's tease on how she tasted.

Her silence and irritated expression that she never could control soon changed with Aurelia's actions that followed soon after. A hug and then... a kiss was planted on her cheek. It caused the blood to rush and spread a rosey hue across her cheeks. She wanted to glace at Howard but instead she just laughed it off and lowered her head to the ground to gather herself. ''Yup.'' She replied with a mumble and in an awkward tone. She was to share her feelings on missing the other also, but with having been put on the spot like that set her back in her tracks.
Thankfully, Auri didn't seem to have no effect and waited no longer in giving the two a house tour.

Falentra stayed silent throughout most of the history Aurelia gave and although it was interesting, she knew she wasn't able to just make a conversation flow so easily, even with friends. She did however admire the paintings. The family was beautiful and she understood where Auri got her looks from. ''You have a good-loo─.. your family are very beautiful.'' Another smile was offered with her compliment. Now that her cheeks had returned to their usual dull colour, she was able to make a decent form of eye-contact with her.

They eventually fell back to the paintings, admiring the artwork throughout the tour, though of course she could not resist herself; more often than not, she found her attention drifting down to Howard, naturally, though even more so when Aurelia brought up how, what Falentra thought, was her family tradition on looking down on his kind. It caused her to tense and feel defensive, though thankfully her judgement worries that were building happened to be wrong. No males were to step foot in this mansion unless it was approved? Is that what she was saying? ''Jesus. And I thought my family were strict. That's not the case now though, right?'' It had to have been, else he'd surely have not gotten away with it this long.

What's it like then?

Howard's red eyes would meet with Aurelia's blue as she made her inquiry. A flash of caution would pass through his fiery orbs as a mischievous one flared through hers. "Not now." He spoke in a low tone as Falentra came closer. It was not that he wouldn't discuss the difference between taking blood from a friend over that of a lover, but with current company the topic was sensitive. If they had discussed it he could have spent a while describing what it felt like to ingest blood from various people. From the strangers that donated for his meals it was simply sustenance. To come from her felt like a gift from a friend. A hug or pat on the back from a mate that expressed that he was accepted fully. That there was a special bond and trust between them. When it came from Falentra it was so much more. There was the acceptance and support, but for his body to be nourished by one he loved took the satisfaction to the next level. Just as his feelings for her filled his heart, the blood fed mind, body and soul. Most might simply look at a Dhampir drinking blood as they may someone eating a sandwich, although perhaps a bit more intense, but the act of feasting on another life essence was so much deeper than that. A loaded question even if she did not realize it, but one for another time.

Fortunately the situation would move on as Aurelia and Falentra properly greeted each other. The kiss shared between them would warrant a slight raise of the brow, but it was nothing that caused him any jealousy. Just girlfriends being girlfriends, right? If anything he was glad that they seemed to have grown closer. Howard's feelings for Falentra were moe than complicated, but if he could not be a continuous part of her life it still provided him comfort that she had people in her corner. Now that they had all gathered it was time for a proper tour and a bit of family history.

Howard would match Falentra as he stayed quiet and listened. His long legs carrying him down the hall as his hands stayed grasped together behind his back. His eyes would wander between the various paintings as Aurelia gave them the history. Much like Fal he couldn't quite help himself but to gaze in her direction from time to time. It felt like so long since they had spent a peaceful moment together. Their last being the end of their romantic relationship. There was still so much to be said, perhaps even a friendship or rekindling of love to be had, but pride would most likely keep them apart. For now he would shrug it off and simply listen.

History was never anything that fully grasped his attention, just ask the Professor of History of Magic, but as Aurelia spoke it would actually be quite interesting to hear. Not only did a family shift from a patriarchy to a matriarchy in a time that was completely dominated by the male sex, but they also shifted from muggle nobility to wizard. The wealth and influence of the family was evident by the estate alone. Howard could only imagine the size of the vault it would take to house such a fortune of galleons. However, his thoughts would be interrupted as Aurelia spoke of how his presence might be deemed inappropriate. Again his brows would raise as he pondered what she might mean by that. Potential discrimination against his kind or any other really no longer warranted the instant rage it once did, but that surely didn't mean he would take it lightly. However, it would appear that it was the simple fact that he was a male that could have caused offense among a once proud matriarchal family.

"Damn, suppose they'd have my out with the hounds." Howard joked with a smirk. His eyes meeting with Falentra's if they were aimed his way. The first relaxed conversation in quite sometime. "Would they have accepted a Dhampir though?" His interest was peaked. Half breeds still faced hardships now, what must it have been like back then? Would such nobility provide safe haven fro those of his kind or other half breeds?
