The Butterfly's Revenge
It had just been the other day that Tristan had been out in the forest again, and he had spied a butterfly alight on a rose bush. He recalled the colors, vivid and bright crimsons and yellows and whites. Reaching out his hand, he gently caught it, cupping it in his own.
For a moment, he had held it prisoner, before releasing it back into the world.
Now, that butterfly could rest easier, knowing that it had revenge on the young boy.
He had said his farewells, been teased by his elder brother and sister, and fussed over by his mother a bit. And now he was trapped in a metal box, in one of the passenger compartments of the Hogwarts Express, trapped, perhaps, like that butterfly had been.
There was anxieties, of course, and it was normal and natural to have these thoughts - would he make friends and fit in? Would he actually learn magic? Yes, he had that thing in the forest, but... would he be able to really repeat it?
And where would he be sorted? For Merlin's sake, he hoped it would be Gryffindor. At least, he had a few candies that well-wishers had passed along to him, and with a crinkle of the box it was in, he opens the small package of licorice he had brought, chomping on a piece or two as his eyes glance to the window.
New beginnings. There was an aspect to it all that all was exciting.
If only he could tell the butterflies in his stomach that.

The Butterfly's Revenge
Winter once again was ready to say her farewells to her aunt and cousin, and yes of course her butler and pup! She was sad to leave them but excited to go back to Hogwarts. She put her headphones around her neck and gave each of her family members hugs before running off to leap onto the train. Second year... maybe she could befriend some first years? Or maybe even some more people of her year! She drug her trunk behind her, off to go search for a place to sit.
She passed many, looking inside only to find all the seats taken. This train had only one word to describe it, crowded. She eventually made her way to another compartment, one who had only one student residing in it, a boy she had never seen before, perhaps a first year? She leaned in the entrance and gently knocked on the sliding door. "U-uhm hi... can i sit here..?" she asked in a soft tone, her red eyes meeting that of the boys once he would turn.
"If not its fine.." she added, pulling her trunk out of the way so others could pass. She would wait for the young boys response, all whilst thinking about what was to come of this new year, hopefully nothing too dramatic. Aside from stressing about work and finding a seat on the train, she would think of nothing more then how much she would miss her family. She saw them outside of the window, waving to them as the train began to move, slowly picking up speed. She once more looked at the boy, a slight smile showing on her face. "O-Oh my name's Winter by the way..!" she quickly added, realising she had forgotten to introduce herself.

Hoping on the train, Ashton said his farewells to his mom and dad. His twin sisters were no where to be found. Must have been in a rush. Great. He was all alone inside a train with no idea where or what to do.Word count: 263
But he was used to having no company so it didn't bother him that much. Walking and trying to find an empty compartment, he slid one hand inside his jeans pockets and the other holding his luggage while looking on the ground. Force of habit. He knew there will be no more empty compartments left so what's the point? His plan was fairly simple, if he didn't find an empty compartment by the time he'll reach Hogwarts, he'll just either stand or jump out.
Okay, he was a little bit exaggerating at the last part. Making his mind up, he decided that sharing a compartment with a stranger wouldn't be that bad. Unless if they're loud. He hates people that were loud. He'd rather be stuck in a long trip with a shy person. It's much more quiet and he can relax more.
While walking, he sees and overhears a girl with white hair asking a person inside the compartment if she can sit there. Thinking that theres enough space for him to join, he tapped the girls shoulder and said "S'cuse me miss. Oi mate, is it alright if we coul' sit 'ere?" He then said the last part to the boy inside the compartment. He was rather in a rush since his feet were killing him.

The Butterfly's Revenge
And so, Tristan was in the midst of popping one of the licorices into his mouth when his blue eyes are drawn up to the entrance of the girl. Chewing the candy a bit before answering verbally, he instead answers with an offer: he holds the bag of black licorice up to Winter, and lifts his chin to nod to the seat across from him, a smile springing onto his lips afterwards.
The entrance of the other young lad earns a bit more of the smile, and he tries to speak through the licorice, but honestly, it ends up a bit of a gross, “Mrrellow!” He decides against trying further speech, and offers the bag of licorice to Ashton, giving it a little shake afterwards.
It’d take a minute for him to be able to speak – this stuff was chewy. “It’d be good to have some company on the train ride over,” he says to them both. “I grabbed the first empty compartment I saw – most looked full,” he adds, his Scottish accent Central – Edinburgh to be specific, although he spoke with a mild, calm voice.
All in spite of those butterflies in his belly.
“I’m Tristan,” he says. “A first year, I suppose, but it’s good to meet you both,” he says, retracting the bag of candy back to himself afterwards, whether or not they took the offer. “I think they’re going to start the train soon – are you both first years as well?” he asks, curiosity rich in his tone.

The Butterfly's Revenge
Venson looked up at his mum nervously for the last time, clutching his suitcase tight. "You'll feed James properly right?" He asked, from the train steps. Venson's mom laughed, and nodded. "Go find a seat, trust me, you'll want one," She warned, and turned away, knowing that Venson would try to stay if he could. "Don't overfeed my cat!" Venson called one last time before his mom's head disappears into the crowd.
So Venson turned around and began walking through the train, looking awkwardly through compartments to see if he could find a seat. Most were full, and Venson's stomach twisted when there was an open spot, but he wasn't sure if he wanted to sit with the giggling girls. He lugged his case past people, apologizing when he accidentally nudged somebody with it.
But the next compartment had a bit more room, which smelled slightly of licorice. He lightly knocked on the door, and leaned slightly inside, eyes trained down on his suitcase. "Hullo...Do any of you mind of I sit here?" He asked quietly, making eye contact with the white haired girl, and bit his lower lip nervously.

The boy tried talking with his mouth full, probably from eating licorice. He tried to talk but what came out was a muffled hello. Deciding against speech, after giving the licorice bag to the girl, he then gave it to Ashton which Ashton took some and putting one in his mouth.Word Count: 217
The boy then introduced himself as Tristan and is a first year. Thinking that it's okay for them to come inside, Ashton gestured to the girl to come inside and sit first before he next came inside and closed the compartment door. He then proceeded to sit in front of the boy he now knows as Tristan.
"Nice to meet yer. I'm Ashton and a firs' year." He then looked at the girl curious to what her name was. But as soon as he introduced himself, the door slid open and a very shy and nervous looking boy came in sight asking if he can sit there with them .
Ashton wasn't in charge of the compartment so he just laid his back on the seat getting comfortable and waits. Taking a moment to look at each person he sees, they were interesting. This'll be a fun year. He wonders if everyone was nice at Hogwarts. Probably not all. He then chuckled to himself quietly.

The Butterfly's Revenge
It was probably safe to say that none of the four here were in charge of the compartment.
It might be a little wicked, but there was something comforting about seeing Venson as nervous as he was – it did remind Tristan that most of the firsties here were nervous, himself included. It was a new adventure, a new place, and for most of them – at least for Tristan – the first time that he had been truly away from his family.
“There’s room, I’d be happy if you sat,” says the young man, pushing his hand through his hair. “I’m Tristan,” he says, repeating himself for Venson’s sake. “A first year, and…” he considers a moment. “Admittedly, I’m a bit nervous about this whole thing, you know?” he says to Venous, his smile staying light on his features.
“A bit like butterflies in the belly, ay?” he says, that smile only blossoming. “Where are you all coming from, if I can ask?” he says, sitting up a bit more straight in his seat, his foot nudging his luggage a little bit deeper beneath his seat. He had some candy, still – black licorice in a bag. And this was offered up to Venson now, as he takes a piece from the bag. “I’m from near here – Old Town, in Edinburgh,” he says.
Ashton’s chuckle draws his attention. “What’s funny?” he asks, his tone still light.

The Butterfly's Revenge
Whilst waiting for an answer she had felt a tap on her shoulder, another boy wishing to have a seat. After the boy in the compartment would agree, winter would place her trunk in the luggage holder above the seats. She would smile at the boy who offered her a snack, taking only a small piece of licorice from the bag he was holding. The dark haired kid beside her also taking a share of what the kind boy had offered.
It hadn't been too long after when another student had decided to join the party, once again another boy. Winter greeted him with a nod, she really hadn't said much of anything upon entering the compartment. The nice boy had introduced himself as Tristan, a first year the next boy also a first year introducing himself as Ashton. Winter rubbed her arm, she was shy as it is, almost always making her look nervous. They probably though she were also a first year- she had looked at them all and stiffled a slight smile "o-oh uhm.. i'm W-winter, a second year..." she spoke soft as ever towards them, her dark, mean looking red eyes not fitting her personality whatsoever. "I-its nice to meet you all.."
The boys would continue to converse, winter just staring off into the unknown, or whatever they called this place beyond the hogwarts express. Tristan would soon ask another question, one she never really had been asked before. "W-well uhm.. i"m o-originally from Baths, england but i just r-recently moved to London..!" she spoke a bit louder now, more audiable than before hand. More and more they would all talk, winter finally beginning to ease up from how tense she was in the beginning.
She crossed her arms, pulling her over-sized hoodie sleeves over her hands, and adjusting her hood to cover her face just right. She was sure one of them would ask about her eyes, or maybe how her teeth had been missing when she smiled? Or how about the fact she was wearing a hoodie in such nice weather?! She would let out a sigh before speaking to the three "Uh so i'm sure you noticed my eyes by now.. and perhaps my teeth.." she would demonstrate a smile, showing the two canine teeth missing. "S-so just to get it out of the way, no i am not human.. i am what people call a dhampir, half human and half vampire..." she spoke softly once more. Hoping she didn't frighten the boys, she lifted her one leg up onto the seat, resting her head on her knee, waiting for a response from those sharing the seating area with her.

The Butterfly's Revenge
Hearing Tristan and the boys little conversation he smiled lightly. He was never nervous upon meeting new people but hearing the butterflies in your stomach kind of speech he was curious as to what that feels like. Asking where they came from Ashton answered casually, "From Boat of Garten, Scotland."Word Count:237
Upon hearing that the girl, who was known as Winter, was a second year, he was surprised. She looked like a first year. Well, in a good way. And then he was not so shocked upon hearing that she was a dhampir. He heard about dhampirs but had never talk to one. But all Ashton did was slightly smirk. He knew something was different at the girl. Excluding her hair. But he didn't mind. He actually find half breeds fascinating.
Looking at the others reaction then at Winter, he said, "Welp, cats out of the bag. I find that cool so I don't have a problem with it." Smiling to the girl and then looking out the window. He's social meter was draining by the second. He wasn't used to talking this much with many people.
He'd prefer to just listen to others conversation and speak if necessary or asked a question. Although, he can't help but wonder, if his dad or mom was a half breed and he just didn't know? It could be possible since he isn't really that familiar to his lineage and all.

Venson smiled a bit. "I'm from London." He shrugged. "I just live with my mum. Oh, and another thing, you can call me Venn if you'd like. Its a preferred nickname." Venson looked at the floor, not understanding why talking was making him uneasy. These were fellow wizards, maybe future friends. Venson didn't know many people in the wizarding world.
Venson looked up and surveyed the small compartment. "Say, does anyone know how Houses get picked? My mum wouldn't tell me." His faced burned as Venson asked this, but he wanted to know. He stuffed his hands in his pockets, and began fiddling with pocket lint and strings. Anxiety was twisting in his stomach, and so while he was fiddling, his eye traveled around the room, studying the others.
To break his own tension, Venson looked out the window from where he was seated, and asked, "Do any of you guys know how long this train ride will be?"
